re: Ole Miss posters when Kiffin breathes

I suggest you hold your snark until the 2026 season begins, and your expectations are not met.

I think Saban is allowed to make his own picks, though.

What I think needs to happen is that the NCAA should adopt the pro rule that no agent/coach/player/AD should be able to contact another team until AFTER the season is over. Also: the portal needs to be moved to after the title game is played. It's not right that it's now open while some teams are still playing. Teams should not suffer the kind of chaos this year that some did while playing high-stakes games.
What I do know is that the idea that only certain programs can win natties is no longer valid. Vandy was the best team in Tennessee this year with a 10-2 record? Who saw that coming? Not possible without NIL and the portal. I also agree with those who say that Saban exited at the right time when he realized that 'Bama would no longer have the advantage it once enjoyed.
Meanwhile, he's in every commercial on TV. I also noted that he was wrong as much as he was right when he picked winners this year on Gameday. A part of him still lives in the past on reputations of other teams.

Kiffin is lying when he says Saban made up his mind for him. As soon as LSU and Florida fired their coaches, Kiffin got in touch with both AD's (or had his agent do so) and then while still under contract to Ole Miss allowed his family members to tour Baton Rouge and Gainesville housing. He had no intention of staying at Ole Miss once those jobs became open. What's ironic is that he built what he built at Ole Miss with NIL and the portal. And what he built finished 3rd in the final polls and could easily have played for the natty in games that went down to the wire. Yet, his perception was that he could only win a natty at a school like LSU because of what they had done in the pre-portal/NIL era. The game has changed dramatically, and, as Indiana just proved--a program that had the worst record in college football--anyone can win a natty anywhere.
As Al Davis said when he fired Kiffin at the Raiders: "He's a con man and a liar." It will catch up with him.

Kiffin didn't have to walk out on his team. Period. He claimed he couldn't win at the highest level with them, but they got to the semis without him and very nearly got to the finals without him. None of his players are following him. That should tell you something. He is not going win a championship at LSU. He'll be gone in three years after his enormous buyout is through protecting him from Brian Kelly-type seasons. As Al Davis said when he fired Kiffin as Raiders' HC: "He's a con man and a liar." He hasn't changed since then.
re: Has anyone seen anyone at all picking Ole Miss to win?

Joey Galloway picked Ole Miss.
When Al Davis fired Kiffin from his Raiders' job, he said: "He's a con man and a liar." Looking back on it, Kiffin's fake injuries were just a part of his being a con man.

Ole Miss represents the return of a natty for the SEC after a two-year absence. Watch it happen.
Wretched Excess of the 21st Century so far: Lane F'in Kiffin!
That was the most anal-retentive one second I've ever seen in football.
re: Ole Miss creates history in the playoffs... expect new precedent
Posted by ht1950 on 1/2/26 at 7:15 am to DustyDinkleman
Ole Miss didn't 'borrow' another team's staff. LSU has never played a game with that staff. Instead, Kiffin set a new precedent by talking to Florida and LSU AD's as soon as they fired their coaches. And then flying his family to both cities to look at housing. The NCAA needs to put an end to this right away. Adopt the pro rule where a team is not allowed to contact coaches and players of other teams until the GD season is over. Also, move the portal until after the season. Otherwise, there will be complete chaos constantly in the college game.
re: Ole Miss Now Carrying The SEC Banner

I'm assuming most everyone on this board is sick and tired of the BIG teams crowing all the time about how tough their league is. I still think the BIG is a lot more top-heavy than the SEC is.
Ole Miss Now Carrying The SEC Banner
Posted by ht1950 on 1/1/26 at 11:29 pm
'Bama looked terrible; UGA lost a good, competitive game to OM. Which now is the only SEC team left in the CFP. Can they beat Miami? Can Chambliss beat Beck? And if they do, then they have to face a BIG team for the natty. Anyhoo, I was impressed with the Sugar Bowl game. The other two games today were duds.
How is LSU back? It's not even 2026 yet. All you did was hire the coach who has left a trail of ugly exits from the Raiders to Tennessee to USC to Ole Miss. I'd slow my roll until I see some evidence on the field. And I'd also make a mental note not to trust anything he says over the short and long haul.

There are still three SEC teams in this thing. I am pulling for one of them to win it. Tired of the BIG mouthing off all the time.
re: Would Ole Miss have won the West this year (if it still existed)?
Posted by ht1950 on 12/23/25 at 10:06 am to TigerLunatik
A system of complicated tiebreakers determined who went to Atlanta this year. A & M, Georgia, Alabama and Ole Miss were all 7-1. As I recall, during rivalry week, it came down to Alabama versus Georgia or Ole Miss versus Georgia. If Auburn had beaten Alabama, it would have been Georgia versus Ole Miss.
All that said, it may be time for conferences to do away with title games, especially if the playoff expands to 16. The name of the game will be the playoff. Instead, just award the team or teams who won the regular season a league title and wait for the playoffs. This year, for instance, if that system had been in place, the SEC would have declared a quad-championship. Some of these tiebreakers are ridiculous and devalue what a given time does any particular year.

Ole Miss will play in its 11th Sugar Bowl, aiming to improve its 6-4 record. Georgia will be playing in its 13th Sugar Bowl, aiming to improve on its 5-7 record. Fans of both schools love going to New Orleans. I lived there for thirty years and have enjoyed both Sugar Bowls and Super Bowls there.
Ole Miss and Georgia in the Sugar Bowl
Posted by ht1950 on 12/21/25 at 11:45 pm
This will be Ole Miss's 11th Sugar Bowl appearance over the years, where they hold a 6-4 record. Georgia has made 13 appearances with a 5-7 record. There will be a lot of red in the Superdome Jan. 1st.
re: Who is IN for Alabama vs Ole Miss for the National Championship?

An all SEC final would be terrific. Mainly because it would shut the BIG up for a while.
LSU=Short leash, short tempers. Watch what happens if Kiffin doesn't make the playoffs next year. Despite his overall success, he was famous for choking games that he should have won.
re: How can CFP commitee defend Tulane and JMU? (And what does this mean for future?)
Posted by ht1950 on 12/20/25 at 9:27 pm to TigerFan244
The solution is two-fold: 1) increase the bids to 16 Power 4 teams. 2) Set up a separate playoff for the Group of Five. There are lots of minor bowls that no one attends that could be incorporated into such a playoff, and that would give them some meaning.
Saving even one spot for a Group of Five team is a sham.

Let's just say that stadiums don't win games. HC's, OC's, DC's and players do.
My research said that Oklahoma was reducing the size of their stadium to 73,000.

Aggie Dynasty: what was the score of that game? I do not doubt that A & M will likely reach that figure against Miami.
Attendance for the Ole Miss-Florida game was well over 68,000. Checking their stats: LSU game had close to 68,000. Most other home games were between 66 and 67,000. Capacity is 64,200+, so their attendance this year was well over capacity. Interesting to me that Miami, Texas Tech and Oregon did not equal this.
Did you know that most pro stadiums seat between 60 and 70,000?

Seems some fans are obsessed with how many people a stadium holds, as if bigger is always better. Not necessarily. Anyhoo, here are the figures for the 12 playoff teams.
Ohio State--103,000+. Record is 110,000 against Michigan.
Texas A & M--103,000+.
Alabama--102,000.
Georgia--93,000+.
Oklahoma--80,000+.
Ole Miss--64,000-68,000+.
Miami--65,000.
Texas Tech--60,000+.
Oregon--54,000-60,000.
Indiana--52,000.
Tulane--30,000.
James Madison--25,000.
-------------
Stadium size does not equal success in the portal/NIL or having the right coach.

Kiffin was questioned at his last press conference. "Will you be coaching the Egg Bowl?" His answer: "Why wouldn't I be? Do you know something I don't know?"
Bottom line: Kiffin and his players are only concerned with winning the Egg Bowl, going 11-1 and going to the playoffs. All this other noise is clickbait and wishful thinking on the part of desperate fan bases.
