Also posted in D Vickers at SLU. Slightly different wording but same punchline. Still makes me laugh years later.
I was told that ducks migrate south, eventually reach Mexico, find a mate, and then migrate back north, where breeding takes place. If ducks truly are no longer migrating south as they used to due to not having a need to find food, could this also be a/the cause of population decline? In other words - if ducks are not migrating south, not partnering up in Mexico, and in turn not migrating back north with a mate to breed as they have naturally done in the past, then could we assume that agricultural practices have in some way negatively impacted duck population growth? I live and hunt in coastal LA, and the decline in numbers is so disheartening to us hunters that love to hunt and want to pass the tradition on to our children. What is causing it? I know it isn't one specific issue, but where do we start?

In addition, southeast LA gets mostly my namesake (Lesser Scaup) in mid to late season. We can only harvest 2, nobody else shoots them because they are "trash," yet their population continues to decline. Why? Are they using the same prairie potholes for breeding grounds as other species? If not, where do they go to reproduce? Same habitat for food? If so, why do they migrate to our coastal waters with all the flooded agricultural fields available on the way down. I understand that they are divers, but have you ever seen a dogris in a fed pond??? (I've only heard rumors from friends) The Scaup phenomenon is just one of many head-scratchers that we outdoors men continue to battle in the once-fruitful waters of south LA.

And Kennedy won't do anything

Where was he hunting? I've never heard of anyone in Louisiana having success doing that.

SW MS
Wise man I used to work with would hunt on the ground. Hang tarsals around him on branches, grunt, rattle, kick up leaves. Every buck hanging on his living room walls was killed this way.
Still struggling. Scouted Friday and saw mostly dogris, a few grays and mottles. Saturday morning 3 of us hunted - 6 dogs, missed a pair of grays, covered a teal and it flew away. When the feds gonna up the limit dogs???

Killed bucks on December 28, 30, and January 9 in years passed when we used to hunt Claiborne County. 2 were on the move after does, one was bedded in the area waiting on a sweetie. He walked in front of my lock-on grunting at a girl before daylight. First time I had ever heard a buck in pursuit like that. Sure do miss those days. Leased property never lasts :wah:

So how was the first split for you?

Lafourche/St. Charles area - was expecting a promising season with what we saw for youth weekend but... it has not gone quite as expected. Made 3 decent hunts bouncing around. Had good weather days but not much activity. Down about 60% from what we killed last year for the first split. Hoping and praying that the birds show up for the second split. What you got?

Will shoot

Will do it again
SELA marsh - kids had a great time. Couple greenwing, dogs, shoveler, and pintail hen. Saw more than expected considering the conditions. Great weekend at the camp.

What farad said - there's already a thread on this topic. If you want info on a specific location then you should probably do some scouting yourself. SE LA is a big area. I have a buddy that hunts a bit in the Pointe Aux Chenes area. Got a sweet camp set up out there. He's going this weekend for the opener. I'll get a report from him on Saturday and can post his report later this weekend.

South Lafourche's finest. Casey does a great job with youth, middle school, and high school coverage daily.

I, too, know this outlaw of which you speak

This is hilarious whether you like him or not. UPVOTE

Roosevelt Potts, Greg Robinson, and Irving Spikes all started at RB in the NFL and played at NLU along with WRs Vincent Brisby, Jackie Harris, Marty Booker and Stepfret Williams. Moving to 1-A was a stupid move by NLU and their talent level has been limited the last 20 years. Those early 90s NLU teams would have given a bad LSU team from then fits.

Joe Profit was another NLU RB that played a few years in the NFL. Drafted by the Atlanta Falcons. My dad blocked for him in college.

What is the best way to clean/re-season/restore a pot that has gone rancid?
The solution is simple - change his jersey number back to #40
