Another one local, pretty much across the street from where we live now...
Cell phone murders" refers to a specific mass shooting in Huntsville, Alabama, on September 25, 1996, where three men killed four people in a house due to a dispute over a stolen cell phone. The perpetrators, Joey Wilson, Nicholas Acklin, and Corey Johnson, were arrested and charged with capital murder for the incident, which also left two others injured.

On February 12, 2010, University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) biology professor Amy Bishop shot and killed three colleagues and wounded three others during a department meeting. The victims were G.K. Podila, Maria Ragland Davis, and Adriel D. Johnson Sr.. Bishop, a neurobiologist, was denied tenure and opened fire during the meeting, later receiving a life sentence.
I remember listening to the radio news and they were interviewing the step daughter of one of the victims. She stated that she had tried to call her step mom but her step mom hadn't answered yet, not knowing that her step mom was one of the fatalities.

If you're just running on the roads, maybe look up some trails in your area. The attention required to keep upright on technical trails, plus the necessity to change paces/effort due to "non-flat" sections should help occupy your mind and make time pass faster

Yes, since high school i wanted a killer drum kit. Even built a house with a basement specifically to have a place to play what and when and as loud as I wanted.
Finally, after retirement got most of the kit I wanted. Now just adding piece by piece to get to the final configuration. Eyeing some killer looking and sounding "dark" cymbals.

It's the "sudden" onset of the knee issues that are perplexing.
New shoes are helping some, Ghost Max 3s for the longer runs seem to be better than my Hokas.
I'd just like to get this next 1/2 marathon in December completed then just start concentrating on shorter distances or get back into trail races. Started including easy Zwift rides again on off days to keep the metabolism burning

Looking back through my log books, when I was doing deadlifts my legs felt stronger and my knees didn't hurt post run as much. In preparing for this latest half marathon I was reluctant to take an extra day or two to include and then recover from the deadlift sessions. Probably should have bitten the bullet early on and included them.
But me being fat and out of shape sucks more. ??

Ok, before I head out on my 90 minute easy run, I have a question.
Has anyone found an exercise/exercises that alleviate sore post run achy knees?
A little background info;
68 years, been running for 40 years and just recently began with the sore knees after a run. Last winter and spring while traing for a half marathon, had no issues, this year however, the knee issue arisen.
Any ideas, experiences with exercises to help?

Nope, born in Jeffersonville, IN.
Have lived in/ around Huntsville AL
since 1975. Jeffersonville is across the Ohio river from Louisville so I recognized/remember a lot of areas affected by the plane crash yesterday. My grandfather worked at the Ford plant by the airport.

Thanks, everyone for the inputs/advice. I've been on him also to get more proactive and aggressive. He's narrowed his search to a group of defense contractors here in town. And is reworkng his resume to align with the openings. Working in a development/ integration lab environment testing hardware and software prior to fielding....pretty much the same as I did. He's marginally proficient in Japanese having taken as many college courses as possible as well as six weeks study in Japan. He wants to eventually find something that combines the engineering with the language.

I asked about that and he said there were not. I forgot that he did work in the engineering dept with some of the professors so at least he has some experience.

Engineering New Hires

Question and advice from anyone familiar with hiring new college grads. Son just graduated with ME degree and has started his job search. From my recollection, I know that for positions where experience is required, companies scan resumes for key terms related to the req. How are new grads resumes processed when experience is lacking?

Our black cat Sam made it to 22 before he was just so feeble. Still made the effort to get up every time I came in the room so I could rub his head and ears. Very tough going to the vet knowing it's the last time. A box of ashes seems like an inadequate thing for 22 years of companionship.
Oddly enough, we just lost a little 2 month old foster kitten this morning that we were watching for our daughter. Only had the kitten for two days and it's still hard.
Our black cat Sam made it to 22 before he was just so feeble. Still made the effort to get up every time I came in the room so I could rub his head and ears. Very tough going to the vet knowing it's the last time. A box of ashes seems like an inadequate thing for 22 years of companionship.
