re: Paying off Home Peace of Mind vs Controlling One's Time Sooner
Posted by JacieNY on 3/2/26 at 6:28 pm to Everyday Is Saturday
I had low interest rates for all of the 30+ years I paid on my home, refinanced twice to use the equity and lower the rate both times. Now with me and the wife retired we just this month paid it off. Part of this was driven by the news of insurance companies pulling out from some states and the hassles we've gone round with them over things they required of us for the privilege of doing business with them.
Though we will continue to insure the house by not owing on it we are in the position where if push comes to shove we would not be forced to have coverage.

Airline stocks took a big hit
Aviation analytics firm Cirium said at least 1,560 flights were cancelled on Monday, meaning more than 4,000 flights have been cancelled since Saturday.
Dubai, the world's busiest international hub, has been closed for three days.
On a related note, oil is up 13% since the strikes on Tehran, which means higher fuel costs for the airlines.

I don’t think Iran’s navy is capable of maintaining any meaningful closure of the Strait of Hormuz
Probably true enough though small fast boats can damage big slow tankers.
Last I read at least 150 tankers have dropped anchor in open water waiting to enter the Gulf of Aden and perhaps a few dozen loaded ones are waiting in the Gulf until it is safe to sail.
I think land-based missiles are the real threat to tanker traffic.

I always thought the phrase was "It's not the X's and O's, it's the Jimmy's and Joe's" meaning the players are more important than the scheme.
Damn, bb. Just after I give you credit you have to go play the "Let's Post Something Stupid" game.
Wow, you and Django posting something thoughtful one after the other, not what I am used to seeing on the Politics forum.
Whilst the meth heads think those of us who form our own opinions are totally opposed to bombing other countries on purely political grounds, for me at least the concern is DJT's short attention span and now he has stirred up a hornet's nest that isn't going to die down just because he falls asleep in the next meeting of the Security Council.
There is going to be fallout from this one. The immediate affect we are already seeing are higher oil prices worldwide. It won't just be China that feels this and for their part they can turn to getting oil from Russia on the cheap since the Russians have been effectively embargoed from shipping it anywhere else.
Other effects we've also experienced, the shooting in Austin is one and none of us know if there are going to be more acts like that on our soil.
As for Iran, they have escalated things firing off missiles at anything within reach, the U.S. navy at Bahrain, Saudi oil facilities, tankers trying to get through the Straits of Hormuz and an unprecedented attack on hotels in Dubai. In other words, they are mad as hell and going to make sure their neighbors get a taste.
Hezbollah in Lebanon has fired missiles into northern Israel starting up all of that mess again.
Terrorist attacks in Europe will almost certainly follow.
It may not devolve into World War III but for everyone who dies as a result the effect will be the same.
All of this just to deflect everyone's attention from the Epstein files.
Have a nice day.

Experience posting anything for this bunch of meth heads has taught me that instead of considering any of the content and formulating a thoughtful and dare I hope inciteful reply they instead will insult the OP and the source.
In other words, it's a waste of time.
Their world view is tightly controlled by the few extremist news sources they subscribe to and everything outside of those is not to be trusted.
Welcome to 21st century America.

There is a saying in science that pretty much everyone not versed in any aspect of any science fails to understand and it is this: in science you cannot "prove" a theory, you can only disprove it.
Heck, when you get down to it, gravity is only a theory meaning we can't explain the how but no one questions that material objects attract each other.
Now as for evolution all of the evidence, the real evidence supports the "theory" such that for all intents and purposes it is proven and none of the evidence disproves it.
That science has yet to explain the mechanics of the origin of life on Earth, there are two main theories btw, to take that and automatically jump to the conclusion that an all-powerful being that amazingly looks exactly like us snapped it's fingers and presto there was life is childishly simplistic and harkens back to when early humans could not explain where the Sun went each night and what caused thunder, only that both events scared the hell out of them.
The fact is science is the only reason our standard of living is orders of magnitude better than how people lived 500 years ago and you should be damn glad some of us went to school and studied something other than how to be dumbshit redneck.

On rewatching it it kinda looks like a power play. I count only four red jerseys on the ice and that includes the goalie. Team Canada must have been in a line change when it happened.

As near as I can tell, the only person panicking was old Bonespurs. He launched into an expletive-filled tirade the moment he heard about it, hardly sounds like a win but if that is how you want to define one, ok.

Must be difficult navigating through life wearing blinders.
I am really jealous that olympians don’t have a little more discipline than to be fricking everyone in sight!

At the risk of sounding political, the LSU fans saying ahead of the fact "if I lose it was cheating and if I win it was fair" is commonly said by someone MUCH HIGHER UP.

Hansen’s disease, as it is clinically known, annually affects 250,000 people worldwide, it only infects about 150 to 250 Americans. Up to 95 percent of the population is genetically unsusceptible to contracting it. It is highly treatable and not nearly as contagious as once believed.
As for armadillos—the risk of transmission to humans is low. Only the nine-banded armadillo is known to carry the disease. Most people in the U.S. who come down with the chronic bacterial disease get it from other people while traveling outside the country.

Yeah, the batters should have been instructed to close their eyes and swing at every pitch.
How many of you received your personal email from you-know-who?

Hi! It's me again and I love everyone of (the masses so low on the scale I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire) you so please send money. I am rich but I want to be more rich. Send money.
Love, DJT
I paraphrase but that was the gist of the email.
So who received a Valentine, hmmm?

Sooners beat Georgia big a week after the squeaker win over Vanderbilt.
Those games qualify as bad losses for Georgia and Vanderbilt and no doubt hurt their tournament seeding.
Sorry about that.

Is it too late to make a run for the tournament?
