re: Help me find a car for my step son $20-$30K to spend
Posted by NewOrleansBlend on 4/18/26 at 5:53 am to southofyou
He might want to look at new over gently used, when looking at total cost of ownership I suspect it will be close to even if not even cheaper. New cars are sitting with consumer confidence down, dealers are willing to negotiate and have more room on new car, used car prices are still inflated from COVID/cash for clunkers, you can get a much better rate when financing, and you get the bumper to bumper warranty.
I would be looking at a crossover for more versatility and similar MPG: CX5, CRV, HRV, Rav4, Corolla Cross, Crosstrek, Forester
Alternative is to buy a well maintained 5-10 year old Lexus ES, RX, or NX for around 15 - 20k

re: This Masters will be looked back on as the end of LIV

The only actual golf I will remember is Anthony Kim destroying Bryson and Rahm in the final round in Australia. That was the best golf moment of the year for me. It was also the only LIV golf I’ve watched.

Lots of bad drives on 2 this week since they moved the tee box to the left and the trees have grown in. If you don’t hit a draw, seems like driver isn’t worth the risk. 3 wood, 3 wood just short of the green seems like a smarter play

Haven’t tuned in to any golf channel this am but surprised how little they talked about Burns last night. He played a fantastic moving day round, has power the compete with the final pairing, and is a better putter…
Burns has disappointed in big moments before. He tends to start missing those must-make 4-6 footers. Hopefully today is different, it feels different after playing well in the final group on Saturday

What does how much money you've made or how good you are at golf have to do with whether or not you are a petulant a-hole? Exactly nothing

Wyndham's slump might be over, got something new to play for:

I’m curious to see how the course is setup today. I would not be surprised to see significantly softer greens, perhaps universally but particularly on 15 and 13. 15 green is so shallow that it has to be more receptive to shots
I doubt Rory runs away with it just purely based on groupings. The morning groups had a significant advantage yesterday with the conditions and will today as well

re: What statin are you on?
Posted by NewOrleansBlend on 4/4/26 at 3:57 pm to dallastiger55
You need about a 40% reduction in LDL, just a tiny dose of Crestor 5mg nightly should get you there or very close with that dose. Side effects are usually minimal at that dose. OTOH, for the lowest myalgia risk with a statin you could do 1mg pitavastatin or the lowest dose pravastatin with ezetimibe 10 to get you there. Ezetimibe alone will lower about 25% by itself. Newer non-statin options are bempedoic acid and the PCSK9 inhibitors with the PCSK9 being more potent and an injection. Both can be really expensive depending on insurance but if you’re statin intolerant your cardiologist may be able to do a prior auth and get one approved.

Some of you guys are being pretty judgemental about someone choosing to go to treatment, I hope you wouldn’t do the same to a family member. Dude became hugely famous in LA virtually overnight in his early 20s, surrounded by seemingly very bad influences, and lost control. He is taking a big step to get his personal life together at an early age and doing it on his own volition, not because he was forced to like Tiger etc. I don’t think teams will view this as a negative, it will be a positive if it’s efffective.

Although dermatologists are generally careful around the sun, I have to believe some of this is because they are at a dermatology convention and are being watched by a jury of their peers. It’s a good example of the Hawthorne effect and a form of virtue signaling

I think the tour changing and hyping the Waste Management environment is part of the change and complicit in the problem.

Assuming your other CAD risk factors are ideal (bp etc), whichever doctor will go through the legwork to get you on a PCSK9 since insurance may be reluctant to pay. That could be your pcp. That’s the best you’ve got for elevated lpa for now until new drugs are brought to market
re: Daniel Jeremiah Mock Draft 1.0
Posted by NewOrleansBlend on 1/27/26 at 5:33 am to Townedrunkard
In the last 10 drafts, these are the RBs who were taken in the top 15 picks:
Jeanty (6)
Gibbs (12)
Bijan (8)
Saquon (2)
Fournette (4)
McCaffrey (8)
Elliott (4)
That is an extremely high hit rate with only Fournette and Jeanty not being All Pro level players and Jeanty will likely significantly improve if in a better situation. This generation of running backs are also weapons in the passing game, which increases their value to an offense above the conventional role of the RB. The big knock on RB is durability, but this should not be a concern on the rookie deal

re: Very high LPA
Posted by NewOrleansBlend on 1/9/26 at 7:01 pm to warm
Lp(a) rides on LDL particles, making the particles more atherogenic. You can lower the number of ldl particles (apo b) for risk reduction. PCSK9 inhibitors are the most potent (if insurance will approve) and have been shown to reduce lp(a), or the more traditional statin/ezetimibe route

This ain’t the old days where you mostly had public and elite private non-profit med schools. The number of shitty private for-profit med schools (usually DO because it’s easy to get accredited) being paid 70-80k per person per year by the government has exploded. Many, but not all, of the students from these places are sub-par

List all of the running backs drafted in rounds 2-4, not just the good ones. You’re cherry picking

Vuori kore fit me great, sizing is consistent, and they are durable and comfortable so I just buy those now. Lululemon is inconsistent, Rhône doesn’t fit me as well
