Don't blame you at all. It's a horrendous habit of mine that always shows-up when I am typing fast and not really paying attention. Grammar is important and I have to really concentrate to avoid that crap. Drives me nuts. So feel free to correct me every time you see it

Library system wants 50million. Does it really still need 50 million?

I think they could of recognized the current economic headwinds the city is facing and looked at their own bloated budget. Instead they gloated in the victory against Sid, and now want to shove it in his face. Problem is, people like me don't give a crap about that. They need to now justify why they still need as much money as ten years ago and every interview I have followed their representatives have failed. In fact, the interviews have only increased my worry about the amount of waste their bloated budget has allowed.

That is certainly the attitude being projected by the library board. Guess we will see.

I do not think it pass by the same margins as previous elections. I think it is a gigantic mistake on the part of the library to try to pass a mils this high.

But then again, I think it's an exercise in financial stupidity to spend $700,000 on advertising for the BR library system. I hope someone is getting some bonus side trips paid for, otherwise, they're getting ripped-off.

The library system was FORCED into accepting 8.3 mills by Sid Edwards' minions in the Mayor's office, and several council members. Woody Jenkins also heavily influenced that plan. Had the library board and management refused that rate, Edwards was prepared to put the system back into the general fund and the money he wanted to provide would have led to huge cutbacks in hours and services.9.5 mills, I believe, is a good rate, it's less than we're paying now, and with 2 rollbacks over 10 years, it will come down to 8.4 - 8.5 (educated guess) by 2036.

I find the language used here to be interesting. There would of been a cut back in services if you had not made a mils agreement with Sid Edwards. This does not say there would of been a huge cutback in services at 8.3mils.

I also found it interesting that Stein talked about how they pay to provide pop-in social workers. "So eight different libraries get visited by a social worker once a week. And they pop in a case manager or a social worker. And they're coming through to us through the Volunteers of America. We have a contract with them."
She then goes on to explain "Now, our reference staff helps people with reference information for social services, like rental assistance or battered women or what to do when you have, you've lost all your resources and your children are hungry. They can get people started on that, but a social worker can take it the rest of the way. And we have so many people in our Alice population, so many people in our community are one or two paychecks away from really needing, desperately needing services."

They are over-funded if they have money for niche stuff like this. She estimated the contract was for around $300,000

edit- went back and looked at amount of contract

Its just amazing

Section from Baton Rouge Press Club Jan 12, 2026 Interview Transcript

Pennie May Landry (20:25)
This (The Source EBRPL) is published monthly. What is the monthly cost? And is this printed in-house or do you hire somebody?

Mary Stein (20:33)
That is printed based on the low bid, public bid law. It's printed by Baton Rouge Printing. It is prepared in-house and the cost is about $5,000 a month.

Press Club Member Pennie May Landry (20:45)
5k a month. And what is the total 2026 advertising budget?

Mary Stein (20:50)
It's 1.3% of our operating budget.

Press Club Member Pennie May Landry (20:53)
Which is?

Mary Stein (20:54)
So it's about $700,000. $700,000. And that includes expos. So anytime the bookmobile goes to a festival or we go to the back to school fair or whatever, all that's included in the ads budget.

Press Club Member Pennie May Landry (21:07)
So do you think, given the libraries are so great, we need to spend almost a million dollars a year advertising them?

Mary Stein (21:15)
Yes, ma'am. Because to get the return on your investment, you need to know what we have. And citizens have come to me and when they finally found out that we had something, they said, well, you need to tell people about this. And I'm like, we're doing our best. And we need your help to do that.

They will be getting a no vote from me for the first time. They are over funded. According to a recent Press Club interview with Mary Stein, the library spends $700,000 a year on ADVERTISING. That amounts to 1.3% of their operating budget. I think they can survive with less money.

I feel like he needs to talk to the police...Cops working the beat are saying that crime is really really bad right now.
Prob already been said-

25% are too fat and lazy to get laid. They don't do shite but sit at home. You have to actually try to get laid.

Meanwhile...they are about to lift the sanctions on the Pogey boats so they can continue to rape our coastline.

frick Landry.

Are they seriously? There are barely any sanctions on them already. This seriously pisses me off. What a dollar store whore.
Two boys I know whose parents left them uncircumcised, asked to get it done when they were old enough. Both said it was horribly painful but 100% worth it. They both felt extremely self-conscience about being uncircumcised.

re: German christmas markets

I've been to four of the Christmas markets in Munich. One by the Rauthaus, one by the Munich Residenz (well worth a tour through if you have the time), they have one with Old fashioned theme one (I don't remember the exact location but an easy walk from the Munich Residenz), and the one in the English Garden by the Chinese tower. There may be more that I didn't have time to wonder to on our last visit.

I really enjoy being about to grab some great brats with a little eggnog or
glühwein while sightseeing. Food is good quality and affordable. Great way to relax and socialize. The Christmas markets are absolutely magical when it snows.
As a friend once told me, ain't nothing a light switch can't fix.
Imagine rationalizing keeping your job over going to the police to protect a child.

Someone I am close to was abused and raped by their father. The parish priest was well aware of the abuse. The priest told this young child to pray for their fathers soul and to continue to practice forgiveness. I often wonder at the kind of person who can sit in a booth and listen to this every week while doing nothing. Listen to a broken child cry and beg for help and do nothing.

The only dog I've seen attack a child was a lab. Went right for the kids face. If the kid hadn't fallen backwards during the event it would of led to horrific injures. This lab is also a dog killer.

The real issue is this is a possessive dog and the owner likes that trait in the dog. He likes the dog being obsessed with him. None of these events are the dogs fault according to the owner and this is complete bs. You see this behavior sometimes with people with small dogs and they also get away with it.

Bottom line...if you're worried about a dog, do everyone a favor and keep yourself and your kids away from it.

People have just become exceptionally ignorant about dogs.
Christmas markets -really depends on the dates of your travel so make sure to check out the dates of the markets before going this route In smaller towns there may not be much open between xmas and new years.

There are always multiple markets in the larger cities so make sure to wander to them all

Markets not mentioned
Cologne
Ljubljana market that stretches along the river

If you like museums

The Kunsthistorisches Museum- along with art they have a wonderful Egyptian and roman antiquities collection.

Great imperial armory collection at Weltmuseum

Both museums are in the same area along with the Sisi focused Imperial Apartments.

As a society, we no longer value integrity. You see it everywhere from the business world to politics. Integrity is something to mock and distain.

I doubt this particular issue will hinder his chances. He might miss out on a little church money. If he fails it will be because of some other issue.

Anyone remember Caneel Bay Resort on St.John?..that place was paradise. Its a shame it doesn't look like they are going to rebuild it. It had a great romantic restaurant on the property.

I haven't been back since the hurricane so this post is just a pining for the days of yore.

Cesky Krumlov- I will add rafting down the river it to the to do list. I think I can actually go through the pension I'm staying at there We are planning two nights.

Would Pilsen be worth an overnight or just a day trip?

I might make Brno our headquarters for sight seeing around that area. Thanks for the heads-up around their Christmas markets. I hadn't read anything about them. I've gone to the several in Austria, Germany, and Slovenia the last couple of years. Great way to grab a quick bite after/while sightseeing or an after dinner drink.
