My daughter has an older half sister whose father died in a similar accident.
They had all been at the swimming pool at a very large apartment complex. The apartment of the person who lived there was a pretty good distance from the pool.
After swimming, everyone piled into a pickup truck most of them in the bed. He was sitting on the tailgate. As the truck made its way back to the apartment it hit a speed bump.
The guy fell off and hit his head on the pavement. He sat up. Then he threw up. Then he just fell straight backwards again. He spent the next 17 days in a coma.
The doctors told his family that the time was very near. His mother asked him, " will you please let Mama see those big brown eyes just one more time?" He opened his eyes for the first time in 17 days, looked at his mother, and died. He was 26 years old.
