they'd be better off coming to an agreement where both sides just call it an accident and move on.

quote:I thought that also and it would be great ideal in a perfect world, but they have always had a strong central figurehead/ruler. IMO, they’d maybe function better under some type of democratic monarchy like other ME countries but without so much power given to the president. With that said, that executive power sometimes exists because there is such a wide variety of cultural/political differences in their representatives. Iran would absolutely have a shite ton of those differences.
I'd recommend a parliamentary democracy form of government

A regime has been taken out. A smooth transition is possible but not probable. The fly in the ointment was always going to be the size of the remnant of radicalism that remains, especially among the military, and then regime ‘loyalists’. That fact alone should give anyone pause about how ‘quickly’ this ends.
If the goal is to eradicate it all with air strikes then this will probably be very protracted. If a secular or even a devout leader rises to power it may be years before there is a semblance of stability. The rebuilding of government infrastructure (both systemic and physical) and establishment of a loyal military is not an overnight endeavor, not to mention any timeline on easing of sanctions. It would be idyllic if an armed populace rises up and stamps out the enemy. The absence of that however is historically called civil war.
The euphoria of the moment concerning freedom is going to meet the reality that this a ‘chance’, not a guarantee. The best hope is for enough normalcy in whatever system of government is installed as to restore diplomatic relations. Also, WHATEVER the ‘new’ government looks like, they are going to want to be armed. To what degree becomes the continuing question.

quote:I think there are entrenched sides to this debate about the ‘war’ label that has to do with President Trump’s previous statements about war.
Yeah, Iran and Israel seem to be at war.
Some do not want to concede ‘war’ because of those words. Others want to use it as a ‘gotcha’.
Whether we have ‘made war’, engaged in ‘acts of war’, have taken ‘military action’, or have or haven’t ‘declared war’ is irrelevant. The present situation and its success going forward is all that matters at this point IMO. All political jousting aside, would you agree with that?
