It wasn’t really unexpected, especially now since Houston is committed and fits Lane’s offense better.

Haven fits Georgia’s or Bama’s offense better. It’s ok to admit he’s a great QB and still realize he fits other offensive schemes better.

You’re lying! Last published budget report showed: Football made made $50,000,000 Basketball made $1,000,000 Women’s basketball lost $8,500,000 Track lost $7,300,000 Softball lost $3,000,000 Baseball lost $2,000,000 In other words football is the money maker that is the reason the rest of the sports besides basketball even exists. Basketball makes a little money. And the rest of the sports are on welfare. So stop bitching about a sport that makes money. Start bitching about the ones that don’t!

I’m not lying , I just believe my own eyes. I was in Omaha last year. I saw 27k LSU fans take over that stadium. The PMAC for men’s BB could never do that with a losing program. It’s not about the money, it’s about the fans and what they support.

And LSU fans support LSU baseball 10 times more than they support LSU mBB on life support.

This is true. See you again in June.

I’ll be there brother
Thank you. I agree with you. But you have to differentiate between baseball fans and baseball programs here. Schools like OM, TN, A&M, Texas and Florida are heavily investing in their baseball programs.

Seeing 2000 Florida fans show up in Omaha for their run was pathetic. But LSU sends 25k fans to Omaha for their run. LSU baseball fans are just different
quote:

LSU baseball has plenty of die hard fans, but it just isn’t a money maker. Take your emotions out of it

You’re right. But I have seen more electric baseball games for LSU than I have football games including 2019 football. Which was incredible. I don’t care about money
quote:

You severely underestimate how little interest there is in college baseball outside of a few states in the south.

Maybe I’m different from most fans, but I grew up watching college baseball. I saw the Warren Morris HR to win the NC in the 90s. I saw it happen again with the Tommy Tanks walk off vs Wake and the destroying of Florida in the finals. Sorry but college baseball means a lot to a ton of LSU fans, even if it means nothing to you.

There was more magic that happened for LSU baseball from the 1990s on than in any other sport

nobody watches baseball

Elite Baseball players who are recruits do
quote:

How much $ did lsu get from that?

How much publicity did LSU get from that? How many recruits saw that?

Not melting. I’m just saying Scott put LSU baseball in a bad situation and it needs to get fixed. And I think Verge will fix it
quote:

Ole Miss doesn’t have the private money that lsu does. I know we took their football coach but we don’t have to copy them in everything

It isn’t just Ole Miss by the way. They are just one example. Tennessee did the same thing
quote:

Baseball has several private donors that make up the difference but I do agree with your point. Excellence should be rewarded.

Thank you
quote:

It’s based pretty fairly on what sports bring in revenue. Educate yourself

That’s not the point. The point is that schools like Ole Miss are allocating more for baseball regardless of the revenue and that puts LSU baseball at a disadvantage. You can’t be this ignorant
I just found the deal and it’s even worse than I thought
LSU Athletics has implemented a new revenue-sharing model following the House v. NCAA settlement, allowing the university to distribute up to $20.5 million in athletics revenue directly to student-athletes starting July 1, 2025. The funds are allocated based on a formula tied to historical revenue generation, with 75% ($13.5 million) going to football, 15% ($2.7 million) to men’s basketball, 5% ($900,000) to women’s basketball, and 5% ($900,000) distributed across LSU’s other 18 sports.

Ole Miss is giving 7.5% just to baseball. Verge has to fix this. Take money away from MBB to pay baseball
I agree. But LSU is already allocating a smaller percentage of rev share to baseball (that is going to MBB) than Ole Miss. that’s a problem
quote:

Well baseball seems to be holding their own just fine with what they have.

The risk you take by giving LSU baseball less revenue share than other programs is losing Jay Johnson to one of those programs.

I’m not saying he would leave LSU, but if it puts him at a competitive disadvantage…well you decide what to make of that
quote:

I don’t think it’s a matter of priority (give to one, take from the other). Just hire the right MBB coach.

Revenue share is a zero sum game. You have to take from one sport to give to another bc Rev share is a fixed number.
quote:

And how much are other schools allocating to basketball? You got a link for any of those numbers?

It’s a good question. I believe in the OM case they took more money away from WBB to contribute to MBB if I remember correctly, but not sure about other schools
quote:

If they don’t tomorrow, you think they won’t?

I don’t know, but I think Verge is going to have to make a decision whether to prioritize baseball or MBB. That’s a tough decision.
quote:

The statement that started this section of the thread mentioned ROI. All of the things you speak of are not typically considered ROI. And baseball seems to be doing just fine. NIL money targeted at basketball comes primarily from basketball boosters, and the same is true for baseball. I don't think basketball is diverting money from any other sport.

LSU released its revenue share and MBB got 15% to baseball’s 5%. Other SEC schools allocated 7.5-10% to baseball. (Ole Miss released their baseball share was 7.5%) That gives their baseball teams a competitive advantage over LSU. Scott screwed Jay Johnson over. Hopefully Verge fixes it
