I think he is going to try to come back this season, he is only a few games away at getting 60% of his salary next season guaranteed. Without that Nike/Jordan brand money coming in and his prospects at meaningful endorsements died up, playing will be his only source of income.

I kinda hope he does miss the rest of the season though. I think having him on a non-guaranteed deal actually improves his value for an off-season trade. A team might attach a protected first to an expiring deal for him if they know they can dump him if he does get healthy. Maybe even a trade where the Pelicans' compensation is tied to if his is still on the team they trade him to at the end of the season.
Sorry bro, I didn’t realize Dyson was topping you nightly. I take it back .

Dyson fell off off a cliff Ben Simmons style after signing that contract. Not just in 3pt%, he is averaging OVER 1 less steal per game this season too.

Queen isn't in the best shape for a pro athlete, and he was hurt all off season so he wasn't able to work out as much as he should have, the length of the NBA season may be taking a toll him. And getting benched may hurt a rookies confidence a little too, so that may be a factor.

A win Saturday also takes them out of the bottom 5 in the league.

Yeah, hopefully they can lock Bey up for somewhere in the 15-20 million a year neighborhood. He would still be a steal at that price if he keeps it up. And that would triple is salary, so maybe he would go for it.

Yeah, DJM, TM3, Bey, Herb and Zion could be an interesting small ball lineup.

What I've noticed about Queen is he needs minutes to get into the flow of the game. Even as a starter, he was usually a slow starter in the first half, then seemed to settle into the game in the second half. I don't see him thriving in a low minutes role, at least not this season. Maybe with this year under his belt and a full offseason to train with the team he will be able to play hard from the first minute he steps out there.

Queen is improving on that. He was a turnover machine early in the season, he has actually cut them to 1.6 a game in February though. That not bad at all for a rookie who handles the ball a lot. For comparison he was at 3.0 a game in January, 2.5 in December and 2.6 in November.

Fears is at 2.3 turnovers for the month.

It's not the Pelicans fault who they are playing, but keep in mind we are playing a tanking team and we beat a short handed Warriors.

Jazz Starting 5
Median Games Started: 18

Warriors Starting 5
Median Games Started: 11

Pelicans Starting 5
Median Games Started: 36 (And that's WITH DM and DJ not playing the whole season).

Hopefully they can keep it up, but I'd wait until we play the Lakers and Suns to decide how good this lineup is. We are in the middle of one of the easiest 4 game stretches of the season.

Jordan was a rebounding monster in the 76ers game. But against the Warriors, he didnt out rebound Queen OR Matkovic despite playing more minutes and they are all about even on minutes and boards tonight. But that's what a talented but mostly washed up vet should do, come in for occasional big minutes, put good numbers for that game, then go back to minimal minutes for a few games so he doesn't wear himself out. Remember, DJ didn't have a job when this season started. The Pelicans only signed him as an energy stop gap due to injuries.

Look at DJs first 2 starts.

DJ - 54 minutes total

DQ- 39 minutes total

KM- 36 minutes total

The reduction in DJ's minutes tonight is just proving my point. The 76ers start is justifiable for DJ. A giant like Drummond would have bodied a rookie like Queen. But there was no reason for DJ to get the start against a small Warriors lineup. But tonight's numbers are about right. DJ shouldn't play more than 10 or so minutes a game, unless we are matched up against Jokic, Ayton, Gobert etc. The guy who will own the guys we are trying to develop.

Why did they decide that 37 year old Deandre Jordan who began his decline pre-covid AND only played in 1 out of the 55 games this season should suddenly be the starter when you are trying to develop Queen AND Matkovic? It's a "win now" move, because starting Deandre Jordan doesn't help you win games. Yeah they will probably win to night and they beat Draymond and a bunch of scrubs with Deandre, but we are also probably winning those games with Queen or Matkovic in the lineup instead. This isnt prime Deandre Jordan here and honestly, at his age and size, isn't making it to the end of the season if he keeps playing starter minutes.

Anyone know when TM3 should be back?
Running it back might be the only option.

1. Zion IS going to play enough games to guarantee most of his contract for next season. Since everyone knows his motivation for playing through it this season is to guarantee that money, he is likely unmovable.

2. NO ONE is touching Poole unless the Pelicans take back an even worse contract or attach some assets. I'd rather keep the assets and let him expire at the end of the year.

3. Murray can only be moved if he absolutely balls-out for the rest of the season. IF Murray does indeed ball-out for the rest of the season, he only gets traded if he demands it.

That's about 108 million in salary they will have to give up assets to move. They can move Trey, Herb, and/or Bey and that's about it. But moving Bey's 6 mil salary would be insane and Trey is also a good value. So that really leaves Herb and maybe Messi as the only guys that they can and should consider moving on from.

re: Spurs releasing Jeremy Sochan

Posted by CoatesHall on 2/11/26 at 3:47 pm to
Sochan has some skills and was even willing to run the point for the Spurs back before they had too many point guards. BUT he can't shoot the 3 ball which every non-center in the NBA MUST be able to do these days. So expect Dumars to sign him to a 5 year deal in other words.
Joe Dumars got the job because he said the talent wasn't the problem, it was the leadership/culture. He has to save face with ownership and can't have a fire sale halfway into season one to jump into a long rebuild. Despite ALREADY going halfway into the long rebuild by taking 2 first round picks in the 2025 draft (which should have been traded for experienced players if he wasn't planning to break up the core of Zion, Trey, Herb). So he is going to buy himself more time by hiring a washed up coach with some name recognition who is willing to work for less than 90% of the other NBA coaches. They will have flashes with Murray, Zion, Trey, Queen, Herb, Fears, but Zion will get hurt again, and Joe will say that's the reason for the lack of success and buy himself year 3...

re: Serious Question!!

I think BI would be just as bad of a fit with Queen as Zion is. BI and Queen like to camp out in the same midrange area. Spacing wouldn’t be great with that combo.

BUT IF we are second guessing, we could have had something like this roster if Griff hadn’t prioritized building around Zion.

J. Hart
H. Jones
D. Daniels
BI
Sengun (Pelicans had 10th pick in that draft and traded down with Memphis)

Bench
NAW
Jose
Naji

PLUS Whatever we got in a ZION trade.
