I'm gonna say Dijon Lee. I also think he's our best option at punt returner going forward.

The kid is a freak of nature, he made a lot of huge plays as a true freshman. Inevitable first round pick.

Probably him and ZB are the most surefire first round locks on our current roster
Tayden Kaawa has the 2nd best HS film after Keelon Russell. Don't sleep on the 6'5" Hawaiian. Super under-the-radar QB but had offers from Oregon and Washington. He's a beast. I like him better than Jett Thomalla

If you're so worried, then donate your entire savings to our NIL fund.

Otherwise, just sit back like me and try to enjoy the utter shitshow that is college athletics now.

Then why did the staff go after him?

To shore up depth at the position.

If Crowell can learn quickly enough to play as a Freshman, he has the physical skillset to be better than Smothers.

Otherwise Daniel Hill and AK Dear aren't bad options. We should be fine.

Actual coaches: "Please don't declare and come to us"

He'd be great in an offense for which he was recruited. An offense based on ball control, running the ball, short to intermediate passing.
A team that wants a game manager at QB would love Ty.

In this offense we need a rocket-armed gunslinger who just lets it rip downfield. No anxiety.

That trophy case is irrelevant at the moment when the current staff wasn’t responsible for filling it.

It's irrelevant regardless.

All of our fancy facilities, Cryotherapy chamber, sensory deprivation tanks, weight room, nutritionists, players lounge, fancy lockers, etc.

ALL OF IT IS IRRELEVANT.

The only thing that matters now is $$$. How much are you gonna pay a player - that's all that matters. The top QB in the nation would just as soon go to Grambling State if the money was right.

I'm hopeful with a new QB at the helm.

Arm strength is at a premium in this offense, so yeah we're going to be much better with DeBoer QB recruits

Things started to fall off after Burton Burns and Joe Pendry retired from shadow staff.

Burton Burns might be the greatest RB coach of all time.
He and Pendry were a lethal combo
I'm not trolling. We came inches from converting that 4th down. That makes it a whole different ballgame.

You do realize we forced Indiana into a 3 & out their first possession, and our offense was actually moving the ball on them.

Turning it over on 4th down in our own territory, really messed us up. But even still we're down only 10-0 heading towards halftime. Our offense is having a nice drive, and then Ty fumbles and breaks his ribs all in the same play after a nice 15 yard run.
We were just really unlucky.
quote:

Well we were only down 17 to these guys at half

And we turned it over twice.

We were actually pretty evenly matched vs. Indiana. We just got unlucky with a couple of turnovers, and our QB broke his ribs. shite happens.
quote:

magine if we didn't go for it on 4th down and Tt didn't fumble... we go into halftime with a close game.

Indiana is about to beat Oregon worse in one half then they beat us over a full game

Yet some were begging to fire Kalen and hire Lanning

This was my takeaway after rewatching the game.
It wasn't nearly as bad as the final score made it seem.

Mid 2nd quarter our offense was really driving the football well. We were only down 10-0 in spite of the 4th down turnover.
Ty Simpson took off for a great run, got about 15-20 yards, and then took a hard shot, barely fumbled it, and broke his ribs.
That was basically the end of the game. 2 turnovers in the first half plus Ty breaking his ribs is why we lost the way we did.

We came out, and just had a terribly unlucky first half vs. the most solid team in the country. shite happens.
Yeah absolutely. The players don't care anymore. They're getting insane money win or lose.

No program loyalty. Everyone is a hired gun.

If the players don't care, and they're all making 10-20 times more money than the fans, why in the frick should we care anymore?
I'm feeling this more and more.
If it gets to the point where it's literally just about buying a new team from the portal every year, I think I'm done.

It's just getting stupid at this point.
What about you?

Words like "program" and "development" no longer apply

I’m definitely losing interest in this free-for-all every day.

Same. I was just thinking about this earlier.
There are no programs anymore. Cfb is just about shopping the portal and crossing your fingers that the players you collected this year are the best ones. It randomizes everything. That's how Texas Tech and Indiana are powerhouses all the sudden.
This is bullshite.

AJ McCarron Drops TRUTH BOMBS

Posted by UAClassOf22 on 1/7/26 at 1:26 pm

This is a great interview, and AJ McCarron makes a lot of good points about Alabama this season, and the state of cfb in general.

AJ is becoming my favorite Alabama commentator. He's a straight shooter.
quote:

I don't think we really have a good idea of what he can do there just yet. You always need to give a guy 3 years to bring in his style of players and implement his system

I think the biggest issue his first 2 years is he has a 180 opposite offensive philosophy to Saban, and yet he's had to play with Saban guys on offense.
Only 2 years in and our top 4 receivers are guys he's brought in. That says a lot.
quote:

And, having your team physically & mentally prepared for the grind that is an SEC schedule.

To be fair, he had one of the toughest schedules in the nation this season, and came out of the regular season ranked #1 in the SEC standings.

I think he's obviously more of a "nice guy" but I think he has much thicker skin than people realize.
I think he can handle the external factors in the SEC, but at the end of the day, he needs to figure out how to win a ship in this crazy cfb landscape. I think all of the coaches are still trying to figure out the best method with roster management and NIL.
The NCAA can't do shite anymore. Kiffin skirting the rules and exploiting the system is what every coach should be doing right now.
quote:

Not built for life in the SEC.

Curious what you mean by this?
I'm curious what the outside perception is from SEC fans.
He made it to the SECCG and Playoff Quarterfinals in year 2.
But also had some embarrassing blowouts.

Do you think he'll continue to build on this year, or is this guy just not championship caliber?

I think myself and most Alabama fans want to see what the team looks like when we have more DeBoer recruits on offense. This past season he only had 1 recruiting class on the roster.
Usually you have to at least wait for a coach to get 2 recruiting classes in before you can judge.
Obviously Auburn paying that much is ridiculous, but you guys laughing at these schools paying big money for QBs when every team in the final 4 has a portal QB.

Maybe it's time Alabama starts getting all of their QBs from the portal too.
