EXCITING 2ND BASE BATTLE
Posted by Mr_BoudinBall on 2/5/26 at 9:52 am
Last year LSU's historic defense was spectacular to watch. As the season approaches, we can't expect another historic defense as of now, but can only assume that the tiger defense will still show out strongly every outing. Returning all 3 of our outfielders helps tremendously. One thing I am excited to see is how the second base situation plays out
This season, Tanner Reaves, Braden Simpson, Jack Ruckert, and Kade Dardar are all at the competition. Simpson, a transfer from High Point University, last season hit .389 (91-for-234) with 24 doubles, 22 homers and 78 RBI, finishing among the Top 10 in the nation in 2025 in doubles (24), slugging percentage (.774), total bases (181) and RBI (78). Simpson was also named #5 on D! baseball list of college second basemen. Also he is the only right-hand bat in this mix.
While he is a strong contender, he also has to compete against Seth Dardar, a strong left bat from Kansas State, and fifth-year senior Tanner Reaves, who has shown flashes of talent and also has experience against strong pitchers.
One cat I sure as hell am excited about is freshman Jack Ruckert from Catholic High. Coming in as the number 1 overall SS in the state, there is no doubt this guy can ball. In a recent interview Jay Johnson says "Jack Ruckert is probably our best defender. As we sit here today, he may be the best defensive option late in a game at second base. He’s done a really nice job transitioning from high school baseball to here." Real nice quote to hear about the young talent.
No Matter who starts, there should be no worry. Each guy brings talent and can contribute in their own way. Also, don't be surprised to see some of these guys get in at third, or maybe even come into DH at times. Whatever the situation, I am excited and can't wait to watch this team dominate.
