re: Softball LSU 6 Tennessee 11 Final

LSU is an elite brand and will attract top candidates!! My guess however is no one is getting fired as the buyouts would be close to 1 mil for the HC and close to 200k for 1 of the assistants per their contracts. They have shown some progress in a few areas but need to shore up the pitching, they can compete with most the SEC just not the top 4-5 or so.

Yeah weird for sure, I went back and looked at stats last yr vs this yr. Lassiter, Franklin and Daniel are up, Bergeron and Edwards are significantly down from last yr and the transfers haven’t adapted as of today. I did research on transfers from other schools and many are struggling while others are extremely successful, it may be adaptation to a new system and bigger stage for those 3. As far as Bergeron and Edwards, they have the same coaches who helped produce AA results so is it players or coaches? I will tell you it’s mostly always players, it’s hard for many to follow-up AA seasons when the expectations are higher. These coaches have proven results at the highest of levels, the culture part I can’t speak to since I’m not in the room but generally teams rise and fall on players not coaches. I will say a bad culture will destroy a team faster than anything else but again no one on here knows what’s it like over there. They went 5-0 for the week so let’s hope improvement is on the horizon!!

Perhaps, but a win is a win, lots of strange scores this season! Oklahoma lost to Long Beach St today, Missouri has lost 10 or so, Oregon has lost a bunch as has A&M! Keep improving and let’s see where they are at towards the end.

Love all that, that’s why he wins at his level and occasionally beats the top teams. I’ve not been around long enough to know but is that opposite as LSU? You do the research on Sandra Moton and Neal they are known to be very tough coaches so where is the disconnect?
Someone needs to explain this logic on Rick Fremin, many of this board would love to have him because he beat LSU last yr, he then got embarrassed by Nebraska. The response well give him LSU players and watch out but in the same breath say that LSU needs to recruit more Louisiana players who just got humiliated by Nebraska in the regional final and has never in 14 yrs been to a super regional while the current coach has been to 4 WS..curious logic

Lorenz was never at Louisville with Neal per their roster he did however recruit her per LSU daily news

I’ve not seen either but what I do know is 1 could have went to any sec school and 1 couldn’t.. I’ll take the one that Mike White, Patty Gasso, Karen Weekly and Tim Walton wanted…on the Calvary kid how do you know they didn’t offer her? Maybe she wanted to go to Georgia?? Btw, she is in a different class than Gongolik. I’ll have to research that class signees for LSU and compare to the Calvary kid. As far as the coach, I have no dog in the fight and I don’t advocate for someone getting fired

So I looked at the OU roster and I was thinking surely they have a ton of Oklahoma kids, they have 2 and only 1 plays and she is a true Freshman. I also looked at signing classes and kids committed and I saw the pitchers committed and they were offered by Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Florida, UCLA…which of those pitchers would you not wanted for the local kid? Local I’m all for if they are elite like the football players we have…would you pass on a California 5 star DT for a 3 star local kid? I wouldn’t…if the kid is local and better than a somewhere else kid that they can sign then go get her without a doubt but I can assure you lane will not recruit a kid just because a kid is local and neither should softball.. edit: I did some research on the Malloy kid, according to her bio on sports recruits she is 63 with a good change, committed to Ole Miss, the kid LSU took Sydney Gongolik, top 3 pitcher in the country and top 10 overall, throws 71 and hit over 25 hrs last yr with offers from every single SEC team and UCLA, who would you have taken?
Is it a coincidence that the best hitters in LSU hitters are righties?I think the idea is correct but maybe not the players?? I watched yesterday and saw that they look at pitches right down the middle a lot!! I wasn’t here last yr and saw they had 1 of the best offenses in LSU history with many of the same players.. what has changed?

They won’t be in the top 25 this week and none the rest of the year I doubt. As far as the way his team plays ?? I agree with. The way a team plays is a direct reflection on the head coach no one else!! The question with Fremin is could he recruit at a national level to compete with likes of OU, Texas Tennessee, et al! This isn’t football you aren’t competing with the majority Louisiana kids
I don’t care who LSU hires but to hire a guy whose only qualification was he beat LSU is kinda funny! After beating LSU he was humiliated by Nebraska and this year got beat by LA Tech. If La Tech beat LSU if he were the coach this board would melt down.

That’s every head coach at this level, I don’t like to guess at the dynamic without being in the room

I like doing research before I type so I did on the assistants, the “young” assistant had multiple AA at Louisville and the number 1 offense in the ACC, last yr his first as hitting coach 2nd in the sec games only and 4th overall, with some of the best stats in LSU history with 2 AA hitters . LSU hadn’t had a AA hitter since Pleasants in her Freshman yr..clearly qualified. The number 2 asst played at LSU and was a volunteer for yrs before being promoted, also a GA at Kentucky…clearly qualified..Taylor Pleasants was a AA and Student Coach last yr, she is perfect for a 4th coach role..just fyi

Not being here last yr I don’t see how any of these players made AA, 1 hit wonders? ? It appears this team sleep walks thru games, if a coach has to motivate you then the team is done. It also appears they play for the name on the back way more than the name on the front. Could be wrong but these are educated observations after watching my kid play for 20 yrs and in a major conference…something is way off

The other factor in ppl blaming coaches like the hitting coach is I could point to Lassiter, Daniel and Tori Edwards why doesn’t he suck with them, I’m sure they go the through the same practices, Daniel and Lassiter are having career yrs. It’s a bad argument to blame coaches for player performance, culture and decision making is fair game imo.

I have a question as it pertains to coaches, my son played baseball in the old PAC 12 and he had a good career but a down 3rd yr with the exact same coaches doing the exact same stuff they did the yr before, is his down yr his fault or coaches fault? If Leavitt sucks next yr is it LK fault or Sl fault? My point players must take accountability and blame because I know personally they sure want the credit when it’s going well. Was Torina great when Berzon was 2 time AA? Or did Beth just suck her last yr? Was the hitting coach elite when he developed AA at several places and one of the top offenses in the SEC last yr with nearly the same roster or does he just suck now? I preached this to my kid, players must take ownership of their game and must not play the blame game when it goes bad.To me that’s a losers mentality and will not get you very far in life generally !

Watching on tv they looked listless, no energy, no passion, no leadership! The AA first baseman was horrible, 3rd base trips on her feet , 2nd base routine ground ball and kicks it. The only player worth watching is the center fielder. To me, not knowing anything just observing it looks like this thinks it’s crap doesn’t stink and they walk around entitled. Wouldn’t shock me if there were major culture issues with this team because if you do the research other than a few players the others including returners have tanked.
Who would you hire? Are you prepared to pay toward 1 mil for a softball coach? What is NIL for softball? Texas Tech is well over 2 mil and closer to 3 mil, would you be ok for softball getting 3 mil? I’ve seen a post about great recruiting and I saw that LSU lost a ton to the portal, what top 10 teams did they go to? Maybe recruiting wasn’t great?? I’ve also seen they have signed a top 3 class with kids with UCLA, OU, Texas, Florida offers according to softball publications..big difference than travel ball dad getting special daughter a ranking? I’m not saying you’re wrong or right however it’s not as black and white as you make it out to be imo

Just moved to BR and found this board, first post so don’t roast me but I thought the idea was to build as you go through the yr? Hasn’t the criticism of the softball teams been that they start fast and fade? Just maybe they will build through the yr and be their best when it matters most which is March, April and May right?
