People proudly show off medals for running half a marathon all the time Because they signed up for a half marathon. No one runs 9 miles and gets a finisher medal.
And Usain Bolt is a world class hero for running barely the length of a football field.
Obviously a half marathon is exactly half of a full marathon, but these are two different type runs , each requiring months’ long different training efforts.
For the average distance runner, a half marathon is more about a consistent pace that’s pushing your limits for the two hours or so.
Whereas a full is much much more about endurance, mental toughness, and overcoming the aches and pains that may start setting in by mile 20.
The body just isn’t made for marathons frankly .

How long is the actual marathon?
26.2 miles
Trust me, 18 miles is NOT a marathon. The absolute hardest part of a marathon are those last few miles. At mile 18, runners aren’t even near their breaking point. Usually hits around mile 22 or so, knowing you still have 4 miles or so to go. Test of mental strength and physical strength.

Participants in the 2026 Los Angeles Marathon have the option to only run 18 miles—and still receive a finisher medal, race officials announced this week. Organizers are projecting a warm, sunny day across the point-to-point course from Dodger Stadium to Century City, with temperatures starting in the mid-50s around the 7:00 a.m. start and climbing into the mid-to-upper 70s by midday, with a high in the low 80s. In response, the McCourt Foundation, which organizes the race, says runners will have an additional choice on race day: marathoners who are “having a tough day” can take a turn at mile 18, head to the finish line early, and still collect a finisher medal.
Sad. Very typical California.
I am not a good runner in the warmer weather, but that’s my problem.

I wonder if his mother named him Shamond in honor of the misunderstood lyrics of Michael Jackson’s “Bad”?
“”Because I’m bad, I’m bad, Shamond.
You know I’m bad, I’m bad
You know it.”
I believe the lyrics are supposed to be “come on”, not Shamond, but that’s not what it sounds like.

Think about this…. If you average out all of the US coastline, the Atlantic, the Pacific, and the Gulf of America, geographically, it’s probably somewhere near Birmingham .

Good chance there are other things on this weirdo for the cops to find. Even trashy redneck types don’t just go around shooting dogs in the street.
Actually a very realistic possibility, since it’s well known that serial killers often are known to be animal abusers.
Should be charged with a felony

I like how Auburn had to build a tiny arena because no one ever showed up to watch an historically bad team, yet now claim they were trying to replicate a Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Before long, they’ll need to build yet another even smaller venue.

That was inexcusable in a meaningless game. Thankfully, Athens is only one state over from Tuscaloosa, so the ride back will be quicker

Dirty play? Since when is going after a loose ball , that Tennessee fouled the ball handler to begin with, considered a “dirty play”?

Maybe we can all hope this leads to eliminating state income taxes for everyone.
