One of my teammates made finals at NCAA outdoor in the triple jump. Coaches told him he was likely to get pulled for random testing well before they get to Oregon (think theyd been down this road with others that had made it from ULM or something). He gets pulled after his finals attempts and pops positive for weed (dumb this matters but still). Idiot lit up the night before he competed.

I’ve said this a bunch but it really irks me they’re using the name of a good dude (and a fellow tricity distance runner) for this scam when he’s not even alive to stop it.

Yep. The unfortunate reality is a lot of parents push their kids into shite they don’t want to do to keep up appearances. My first year teaching I had a conversation with a kid whose parents wanted him to be a doctor and were almost forcing him into applying for premed programs. He was a great kid but not the best student. Loved cars though and wanted to be a mechanic but mom made him feel like it was stupid to want to do that. Made me sad to see because he had an actual good plan in place and everything to make a good career for himself. I don’t know what happened in the interim but I saw recently he’s selling cars now so at least he has that going for him.
I always try and tell kids the important thing is having a real plan in place and making sure you have the actual skills/traits to follow through with what you want to do. Nothing pisses me off more than seeing a kid put down “streamer” in career plans when they have the personality of a stick of mud.

I mean I don’t think very many people out there disagree with you. I just think there was this massive “you have to go to a 4 year university” push for so long that people are almost over encouraging looking at trade routes now to balance it back out.
