Every person in Louisiana lives within commuting distance to a 4-year college and multiple 2-year and vo-tech schools.
We are lucky in Louisiana. My Daughter's total bill this semester was $113 after TOPS and her university scholarships. That is for 18 hours and includes her parking tags.
In other states, people are paying 15k for in-state tuition at public schools.
Private colleges can be 80k. But back in the 60s middle class kids didn't expect to go to a private school unless they got a scholarship.
quote:
The homes were absolutely not smaller back in the 1950s. There were giant houses then that middle class could afford
Before WW2 there were big house because people had 8 kids and extended family living with them.
In the 1950s-1970s there were subdivision built all over suburbs do to multiple factors GI bill, interstate system, prefabricated materials like sheet rock, etc.
Yard sizes have shrunk in some new neighborhoods because most people don't want to take care of a big yard and they don't mind the houses being closer because modern houses have more sound insulation.
Many of the complaints are by socialists.
The places where homes are crazy expensive are run by socialists whose policies have driven up prices.
In the rest of the country it is not that people can't afford a house, it is they can't afford the McMansion that they want. In the 60s and 70s starter homes were 3 bedrooms 1 bath 1000 square ft with window units for ac only in the living room and master.
Cars are expensive because all the added safety features and because everyone wants SUVs with leather and all the features. Cars used to have roll up windows, a cassette radio with 2 speakers, no air bags, and a manual transmission.
College is expensive but they are run by the socialists who pay gender studies professors 140k to teach 2 classes a semester with 5 students in them.
Now everyone feels entitled to several vacations a year to all inclusive resorts, Disney, or on a cruise. These used to be a once in a life time type trip.
Vacations used to be a road trip to grand parents or stay with another family member that lived near something interesting.

re: Troops are hungry all the time. Are you kidding me !!!!!!!!

From complaining the troops are eating steak and lobster to complaining they aren't getting enough. Make up your mind or is just OMB regardless of the facts.
There were large Spanish Colonial settlements in New Iberia, Ascension Parish, and St. Bernard Parish during the Spanish Colonial period. After Louisiana was sold to the US many moved to Baton Rouge which was still Spanish at that time. If you have ancestry that was in these areas in the early 1800s, you likely have Spanish and/or Canary Island ancestry.

Financial audits conducted by the Tehran City Council in 2017 revealed that even after moving to America, he received a monthly sum of 40 million Tomans (equivalent to approximately $11,000 at the time)
I believe there are people posting on this site who are receiving stipend from. Iran through intermediary. There is also significant influence in social media paid by Iran.
Anyone peddling Iranian propaganda for money should be prosecuted for treason. In the modern age it is as significant as direct military aide.

that will need to be done is cut them off from the rest of the world

Does Trump get another 60-90 days and then does the war power act affect a naval blockade vs bombing?
Since the IRGC is a named terrorist group there are previous authorizations. Obama used them for Libya and we have had "boots on the ground" in Syria for 15 years without any War Powers authorizations. The Democrats and msm will scream, but that will happen regardless. Funding will get through somehow.

This is what the Presidential power to impose emergency tariffs is actually for.

Overthrow of the regime won't be decided by election, so the outcome depends on how many are willing to take up arms
This is why there will be heavy propaganda about any ceasefire deal. The regime leaders have to look strong or risk fracturing.

why we didn't have a way to mine sweep.
There are underwater antimine drones that lcs destroyers can deploy.
quote:
I don't know if invoking international law to them is going to be a persuasive argument.
Once mines are cleared, there will be a path on the Omani side. They don't have any mine layers left. If countries would escort their ships, they have air defense systems for missiles and drones. Iran's capabilities are greatly degraded. Don't believe the Iranian propaganda. That is more about trying to convince their own supporters to not give up on them.

I don't think they could stop a destroyer even if they tried. They don't really want us to start attacking again yet.

You have to have registered by 26 to work for the federal government or many federal contractors. People have lost jobs because they "forgot" to register.
I think the selective service registry should be shut down since a draft in very unlikely. They could just pull the data from social security if we ever needed it.

If there is an actual split between the parliament and the IRGC, there is a good chance we can get the regular army to attack the IRGC and defeat them with our strikes.

The amount of people who believe every single thing that fricking Iran says is both mind blowing and also somewhat expected.
Some of the Iranian propaganda people on this site repeated as true:
Thousands of US troops killed.
USN Lincoln incapacitated by drones
Trump rushed to Walter Reed due to Medical Emergency
US Airman Captured
F15 shot down by new antiairdefense system
All US bases in Persian Gulf region destroyed
Multiple reports of US planes shot down or commandos captured inside Iran
And many more.
These posters are either inflicted with TDS or are Russian/Chinese bots.

So, um, what did we get out of this?
Killed a large portion of the regime and nuclear scientist. Destroyed nuclear labs, missile factories, steel factories, drone factories, and more than half of the launchers. Sunk 90% of the Iranian navy.
Only real bargaining chip Iran had was threatening ships in the strait and the agreed to stop as long as we stop bombing. 2 weeks is enough to clear the backlog of ships. If they close it again, Trump can declare a new action and get 60 more days.
We didn't agree to the Iranian terms. We only agreed to stop bombing if they open the strait, then we meet.
Bridges and power plants have been legitimate targets in every past conflict. The military uses them for command and movement.
Distraction then raids.
