The lawyer that was present at the meeting in Benton on the 18th I believe it was said that the guy addressing the town did in fact say that he asked for $35,000 an acre with 30% royalties from a new company and was pretty confident that after the first of the year that it would be possible. Just a quick update as I find more out about it. None of this information is first hand but it did come from some people I think are very trust worthy.

My dad and grandfather went to a meeting at Benton High School on Thursday, Oct 16th. I was away in Mississippi so I couldnt attend but they both told me the same thing and I asked them when they werent near each other to see if there was any variation in the stories. Both of them basicly told me the same thing: They said that the company that was talking to them (Dont know it) said they will most definetly be leasing all of the Benton area. They said it would probebly be around the first of the year of 09' and it could be as much as 1/4 royalties. Aswell as $35,000 an acre up front.
Flop you seem to be very optimistic about this whole thing. you without a doubt are certain that People in/around and far north of Benton will eventually be getting some of that $10,000(or more) an acre ? I'm looking for a little light at the end of the tunnel, everyone I talk to about this tells me I'm crazy and that they know for a fact that thr shale drops off just south of Benton. I disagree with them but I'm either over ruled by a number of people at a time or regarded as a liar.
I had a guy from chesapeake tell me that they cant drill unless they have 520 acres to lease..thats sounds like alot of land to me to just drill once? A guy from petromax in east texas told me THEY needed 640 acres(1square mile) thats alot of freakin land to lease for a well. Benton is only about 1.80-2.0 square miles total...does this mean if more then half of our town is already leased that we wont get any $$ per acre and royalties ?
I think he was talking about the information that was revealed about Tigerdog83...lol

I'm in 19 R13 according to Petromax, the guy I've been talking to is coming out to meet with me two weeks to explain to me how the whole process works, and what we're gonna have to do to allow them to drill out here since they need 640 acres according to Louisiana regulations. I'll keep updating this as I get more information.

Just got off the phone with a CHK land man and he said that they are not "currently" leasing land in our area but that there is a very strong possibility they will be sometime in the next 6-12 months. Petromax is trying to get as much information out of me as they can though, they seem very interested in the area up here for some reason.

Cool, appreciate it. So that stomps out any leasing going on this far north for the shale so far. Heres to hoping! The more I read the less I think we'll see any action up here, but some of the updated shale maps show Benton well within the area of interest so I'm kinda confused but, err well.
::Update::
I just got a reply to a email I sent to Petromax asking if they were interested in leasing around Benton/Bossier Parish. He said that because I cant give him the section/township/range at this moment he cant give me any specifics on our area but that Petromax is definetly wanting to move from east texas in to north west louisiana, and that he was excited about it aswell because he has family in both Benton and Bossier city. I'm far from an expert on this entire play but I'm just throwing all the little bits and pieces of information I get out there incase it helps anyone. Also when I asked him if they thought it was shale up here he said that they think theres a possibility of there being large pools of the shale broken off from the main shelf (Whatever that means).

Too be honest I dont know anything about that. I've just been asking around town if anyone has heard anything, and posting here to see if theres any truth behind it. All I can tell you is were in Benton Louisiana, and the zip is 71006. I'm sorry for my lack of knowledge when it comes to this. Tell me how to get that information for you and I will gladily try!
::Edit::
I got in touch with Chesapeake through email. One of there owner relations technicias sent me an email back saying if I give him the legal description since they already know the parish, that there is a possibility that they are interested in leasing here. So maybe there is some truth behind all of this ?

Woohoo I just heard that Festervan leased about 300 acres just outside/in benton for $14,000/25% can anyone confirm this? My property line is about 200 yards from his! Everything I hear though is just old men talking so who knows.
Is there any posibility of any leasing going on in Benton ? I own around 6-8 acres over here. I heard that someone got almost $11,000 25% royalties in Benton somewhere but I have not heard anything else about that anywhere. Any leasing going on here would be a god send to me and my family, just like it is for so many others. Any information is welcomed, thank you!

Amidst all the small town talk at the local Brookshires here in Benton I overheard someone saying that they were approached by a company(Didnt catch the name) and that they got $11,000 an acre and 25% royalties. WHERE in Benton I have no clue, but I am one of the most southern residents of Benton, wouldnt we have gotten approached first, vs someone farther north ? I havent been able to find or hear anything about Benton being involved in the play other then theres a few lawyers offering to find a company to lease your land, and on the towns listed for there business Benton is one of them. If anyone could shed some light on this I'de be greatly appreciative, I've been looking for information for the past 2 weeks. Thanks again.
Anyone heard anything about any companies leasing up towards/in to Benton? I havent been able to find anything out anywhere else.

Something similar happened to my grandparents years ago when they tried to sell there land with the mineral rights. Came to light that they never actually owned them in the first place, that the people that owned it 20 years befor them had already leased it to a company that has, and still is a producing gas well on the property. What it came down to is, as long as that well is producing, if its in the contract, the company can lease that land for as long as they want. Obviously if they stop making a profit on it they'll dump it, but thats what I THINK I remember from all that fuss it caused. Also in my grandparents case the company was allowed to lease the land for an additional 2 years even after all production on that well has ceased. I think it all just comes down to whats in the contract though, not completely sure. I dont have much knowledge in this area, just tryin to help.
shows how much I know, I thought Rosedale was WAY outside the area of the shale. That just totally blew everything I thought I knew about this out of the water. Grrr..
I've glanced at a few posts this seems to be the most useful place to find information. I was just wondering if aynone kniew if residents in Benton who own there mineral rights will get the chance to lease them out aswell, or are we too far north? If so, anyone know how much we might be looking at per acre? I live on the south side of bentona cross the railroad tracks from the Parish courthouse if that helps. I'm sitting on about 7-8 acres. Any responses to this are greatly appreciated, thanks!
