re: Our new 3rd baseman will be..........

You are right on! To crack this line-up in the DH spot- you better be able to hit, hit for power, run, run really fast, and be better than atleast 6-7 other great players. A .275 guy will not see much time. Alot of it will be where any of the unproven guys bat in the line-up. I am all about putting your bat to the SEC test and one could also agree that any of the 6-7 players battling will be get there chance. This is what the fall is for and then we get to Gorilla ball the rest of the SEC. Just hope we have the same problems on the bump!
Your on for the bet! Hope we both win and he hits 320 and I lose we will both be happy!
Everyone agrees that his stats will be less. He did prove that he could hit our SEC pitching in the fall of 08. He hit with the 1 group. Enough to warrent Mainieri's saying if he had stayed be would have played alot of 3b. So will he hit .400/.300/.200 who knows. I bet he hits .350 and DH's and plays some in the field. He bat compares to Matook or Hanover.
His BA may be really high if his AB are low? ie he does not play!

.200% drop is pretty strong but it is not unreasonable to thing he will hit less than his JUCO stats. Most pro scouts have his bat as plus, but only time will tell how he hits at this level. Watkins dropped .100 % points.

Coach Mainieri is gonna get to see how the cream rises. It may not be clear in the fall. You can bet on one heck of battle between 4 or 5 kids for 3 spots. Rhymes is a proven entity-can he continue to perform-Jones, Ceccehni will have to live up to their hype! Man it will fun or painful to watch depending on where you sit!

3 things!
It may just be Hanover and Rhymes. Hanover slumped early then came on Strong. Jones would be elgilbe for draft next year again if he went the JUCO route . If he goes to lsu he is hung for 3 years. There is always room at the top, it gets really crowded at the bottom. The Barbe kid could really complicate the deal. WOW then you have 4 for two spots and maybe one is a DH. The 3 that play better not flinch or they will be the odd man out.

His granddad played 3b for LSU in 1954.

Who ever swings it the best and does not stumble. Hanover maybe the odd guy out? Should be and interesting fall and spring. If Jones follows Boras's advise, he may go to a juco like to the Washington kid.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), in conjunction with the NJCAA, has selected its 2010 Players of the Year for all three divisions of play.
College of Southern Nevada catcher Bryce Harper has been selected as the 2010 ABCA NJCAA Division I Baseball Player of the Year. Raph Rhymes from LSU - Eunice was tabbed the ABCA NJCAA Division II Baseball Player of the Year and Gloucester County College (N.J.) outfielder Alexi Colon was named the ABCA NJCAA Division III Baseball Player of the Year.
think a swap may be inorder?

Our third baseman is playing at LSU Eunice-Ck his stats-they are pretty impressive-
Never for get about our coach pulling some really strange moves with the line-up. Many of which had little to do with talent or results. He changes the line-up like his underwear. Which has worked well.
When are walk on tryouts?
New Baseball team Roster

With all the juggling, does anyone have a fall roster?
He will be chartering his own flight to the World Series next year to see LSU, not hitching a ride and bunking up!

I hope so! Just passed on info that was overheard. I like him, have seen him play since he was 14 and hopes he recovers and continues to grow as a pitcher/player-hitter at LSU. As far not knowing anything? Well, hell who does know very much realated to this? Mainairi and Ziegler period! Thats why i would not elaborate to much. I do know Coach Mainairi is quick to move in a direction with a player if he feels it benefits his team. He is the only one whose livelyhood depends on player decisions.
Rather not because not verified. Just ball park talk! Hope not, but not suprised. There are hundreds of Randy's and one LSU. Tough if your on the bubble. Draft did not help his cause with Colvin-lhp going late. you never know! I just like to see kids do well and this is a tough one if it plays out that way. JUCO or done with the new transfer rules.4-2-4
heard he is gone
Not much baseball knowledge -was a catcher l year of college ball. 1980's vintage story- Kid from Laurel Miss, Jay Reeves sat at 94 topped at 98 and I can tell you first hand it was like trying to swat bumble bees. He signed top round with the Braves for 100k plus and busted out. Opposing pitcher in the same game was Bubby Brister- topped out at 86 and was signed by Detroit Tigers next year for 100 k plus. Busted out and went own to pro footbal career. Point being if you have the tools they will sign you if you want to play pro ball- whether you throw 86 or 96!
Nola is good- period- The question is what are the best 10 guys to put in the game in any situation. Keep the middle solid, and make the moves on the corners based off whoever the coach feels can get it done ! When you have a team as deep as LSU-good problems occur-Lets see do I sit a guy who is batting 320 or 315 or who is hot of late. shite 95 teams in the country would sell their souls to have our 9-17 players.

You stick your elbow out on 90 plus heater! Hell the LSU kids are a lot smarter than the rest of the SEC. The education is real good At LSU! That shite hurts I don't care who you are!
re: LSU batting?

A bigger way to look at this is that the NCAA rule changes have put some really good players in smaller program schools. Everyone is playing more games in a shorter period. This is the equalizer that the NCAA coaches wanted- Including PM. The NCAA allowed transfers until December 07. So the good kids that got hammered on the Roster reduction side are showing up in the smaller schools. The next influx will be really strong JUCO influence into these programs because of the the Roster size implications. How does this affect LSU hitting? High level D1 pitching is now seen in lower level programs. Plus LSU often see's the best. 90 with movement or an effective splitter is bad for hitting regardless of what level of team they are on.
Gibbs switch hitting is a part of his problem. Pick his best side for a while and go with it. 245 switching hitting in run producing spot does not help anyone. He should be a big rbi guy. He is very talented, but it is time to help the team and not improve his draft stock

He and Matook get a lot better pitches batting 8-9. Not a bad idea though. 1-5 usually crap to hit-especially when you are ranked #. Look what we did to Taylor Dugas with Alabama.
re: Javi sanchez and his role in hitting woes
Posted by rocknfire on 4/20/09 at 2:45 pm to Godfather1
It is obvious that Godfather has been there!
I am going out on a limb here. "most" people who post have never played college baseball. So to blame a coach on why a college kid is not hitting is someone looking for an excuse for crappy week. Do I agree that the buck stops with someone yes, but not the hitting coach. Sometimes hitters just get beat. Sometimes they crush it and it gets caught.I could be that a girl hung him out to dry! I know a Texas Ranger hitting coach and it takes 500 swings a day for a week to change a minor swing imperfection. As a hitting coach his job 90% psychologist 10% instructor and the less of the 10% he does the better off he is. He would be better served finding another girl for one that messed up the kid to begin with!LOL
Picked he is having Tommy John on the 24th of this month.
