re: When will CFB collapse?

Posted by RunningJacket on 1/14/26 at 4:37 pm to
For every fan of a SEC team who will go 7-6 in the future instead of 9-3 and lose some fans, they will be replaced by other teams, Did you not just see Indiana, freaking INDIANA sell out Mercedes Benz stadium?

I remember all the threads on this board by UGA fans about “taking over the Rose Bowl” and when they “took over Autzen stadium” and were acting as if it was something special. What’s special is winning. Win and fans appear. My little ole team who has a constant home attendance of around 40-45,000 when we are average. This year we sold out several games because we were “above average”. If we ever went 12-0 we would also sell out stadiums because fans are thirsty for a winner.

But I understand that SEC fans believe it’s all crashing down because your teams have proved themselves to be inept when competing on an even level. SEC coaches are being exposed and QB’s are being exposed without 4 and 5 stars all over the field. The sport is GAINING fans.

Just because the SEC is collapsing doesn’t mean the sport is.

Of course I say that tongue in cheek, but the reality is this new era is hurting the SEC since their major advantage has been taken away. So, sure, I understand the angst and whining form SEC fans. But I also expect SEC fans to be smarter and look at the sport overall and realize having other parts of the country enjoy success is good for the sport. Bama and UGA won 8 of 14 Natties - that was not good for the sport especially knowing it was due to the bagman system that Saban specialized and Kirby brought to Athens.

College football is finally healing after decades of being run by conmen and cheaters from bowl committees, to AP voters, and scummy coaches many of you idolize. Sure, changes will come to NIL and the portal but the days of the corrupt and below board past are over. If teams want to spend 2 million on a player then everyone knows.
24 will be awesome. Automatic qualifiers will be a necessity just like in every other sport and then the regular season actually matters. Think of the SEC having 4 pods and the winner of each pod gets 1 of the 5 SEC automatic bids. Then you have a play in game for the 2 best second place pod teams. That is a legit path not reliant on biased opinion polls.

That’s what we’ll get. Right now, and for the next decade, they have to continue to pay lip service to polls but eventually the polls will be replaced with auto qualifier slots.

You could have each of the P4’s getting 4 auto qualifiers for 16 teams. Then a lot 2 spots for G5’s for 18 slots. That then gives 6 at large.
How many of you have looked at the sex registry of your area? Theses people are all over. Then add that many are illegals and that is what ICE is after. So yes, they will be all over neighborhoods and apartment complexes unless people are fine with illegal sex offenders living in their communities.
From Mar a Lago to the private FBO at PBI is basically a straight shot so not a lot of options to take a 40 car motorcade.

Some of you UGA fans are actually right on the money in that the real issue is the portal and not NIL. I saw the future and how the portal would change the sport 4 years ago and was shocked that the SEC and BIG didn’t immediately try and squash it - but the problem was all the media attention went towards the NIL side of the equation since it’s more flashy to talk about money. Now that the portal has been validated by the court it’s not going back, although just like coaches leaving, it will be all about contract negotiations in the future. And like in the pros, no coach will want to force a disgruntled player to stay if they want out.

The problem you guys have is everyone now understands where the advantage has been for the SEC with buying players and then being able to hoard them. It built the SEC but now that everyone sees it they won’t let it go back that way. So, yes, I totally understand the angst of a generation of SEC fans who was sold an illusion from 2006 to 2022 when your conference dominated. The rest of the country figured out the scheme and made it legal and allowed players to transfer and now we see the door is open for 50 to 60 teams to rebuild every year if they choose.

Ultimately, the sport is much healthier when more fanbases have hope but that hope is paid for at the expense of other fanbases who will be losing more games than they have in the past 25 years.
It’s dying to fans of about 10 schools. To everyone else it’s time to get payback - literally.
“Burning out the fanbases”? What are you talking about? For every fan who is pissed his team lost a player there is another fan thrilled to have him.

Indiana just did a SEC takeover of Mercedes Benz. Remember when SEC fanbases would brag about that kind of stupid stuff as if it enhances their manhood.

College football is going to be more popular than ever with more fanbases finding success for the first or second time. Sure, it will be at the expense of fanbases who take 9 win seasons for granted but so what.

This sport became way too top heavy because the NCAA turned a blind eye to cheating. Now, it’s leveled and times are a changing and the popularity will take off. If Bama, UGA, and Ohio State fans can’t handle new competition then they can “stop watching” as has been posted h7ndreds of times around here over the past year.
This board for years would laugh at every and any team who didn’t have top 10-15 recruiting classes. It’s almost as if SEC fanbases were brainwashed so companies like Athlon, Rivals, ESPN could make money off the “recruiting” rankings etc. Even right now, we still have threads about portal class rankings.

Indiana would have been mocked and laughed at by every poster on this board 2 years ago. Heck, you guys dismiss everyone who didn’t have a top 5 class. So, yes, what Indiana is doing right now is single handedly the most unique thing we’ve ever seen in this sport. They came out of nowhere and have proved the entire history of the sport is fake. These so called bluebloods were created due to cheating. Indiana proved anyone can be a blueblood by paying. It’s gonna be awesome watching these rural schools fall down the ladder as big boy money enters the sport.
The SEC no longer plays defense. Of course, part of that is you can’t stack your defenses with 4 and 5 stars anymore. Also, the SEC coaches relied on bagmen more than actual coaching. The SEC coaches have been getting out coached now that players are relatively even.

It goes to show the farce this sport has been for decades when it was all about cheating. Now, you gotta pay and coach.
The SEC does not play defense anymore. Look at the scores and the stops that SEC teams don’t get at end of games. The SEC has become what they use to make fun of the Big 12 being - all offense and no defense. Other conferences may not have “marquee” offensive names but they play offense and defense. The SEC needs to get to work and realize they are being put coached.

re: What is targeting?

Posted by RunningJacket on 1/8/26 at 8:33 pm to
He was looking at the ball and they ran into each other. Not targeting when you aren’t even looking.
Just kidding man. I’ve said many times I like Kirby. He isn’t taking a pay cut to go the NFL nor should he. The biggest problem at UGA right now is lack of talent evaluators. If that continues those close wins will turn to losses.
In fairness, winning SEC titles doesn’t mean a whole lot these days. That’s like bragging about winning the Sunbelt.
You guys crying about having to learn new player names, etc are just funny. Who the heck cares about their names. We root for our TEAM and the players are lucky to be on those teams. I could care less about any player individually or as a person. They are just 1 of 11 on the field wearing my teams uniform and helmet. They don’t know me and I don’t know them.
The problem SEC fans is they think their teams play defense. UGA’s defense is average. What Mendoza did to Bama was beautiful. What Chambliss did was impressive but UGA’s defense isn’t that good. Ole Miss can beat Miami but it’s gonna be a tougher task than beating UGA. Polls mean nothing now and Miami has shown their defense is top tier.

re: Parity and NIL

Posted by RunningJacket on 1/2/26 at 10:25 am to
The portal should and will remain. That’s what creates parity as players move around for playing time. The old days had coaches flat out lieing to players knowing they were held hostage for 4 years so teams like Bama and UGA could bagman 4 and 5 stars and keep them away from other teams. My teams old coach Bobby Dodd did the same thing in the 50’s when we were a top 10 program. Now, the depth at the power schools is gone and it’s created a great sport where every fanbase has hope. Give it another decade and there will be very few power schools but the sport will be much healthier as everyone can win or lose every week.
Any of you who believe that every team was buying players under the table are morons. You really believe that schools, like Indiana and Duke were playing players yet lost year after year after year?

Just because the big southern schools sold their morals to win football games doesn’t mean everyone else did. I didn’t see Herschel driving a Camaro around Nashville or Durham. I didn’t see Cam taking snaps in Charlottesville or Provo.

NIL is proving all this in real time. Now that all teams can pay you have a lot of newcomers to the scene. And we are only in the infant stage of this. Give it 8-10 years and there will be very little difference between the #1 and #25 team. Indiana is literally spanking Alabama in 2026. If you can’t see the old days are over you eventually will accept it.
I thought iron sharpened iron. Maybe it was charmin wiping charmin all season.
NIL is awesome because now EVERY team can buy players. You are losing the RB’s because your team decided they weren’t worth what someone else offered. But your team could have.

This system is way better than 15 schools buying every 5star under the table.

And the portal is awesome too. These players aren’t hostages.
We’ll be at 32 within a decade. Unbalanced schedules makes it impossible to have any real clue as to who are the top teams. College football has been a fraud sport because they used polls to decide who was best. What are polls? Nothing but opinion and this board proves opinions are varied. Ohio St losing to Miami shows that the polls have been WRONG all season. Yet we made a playoff based on them.

Right now we can all list the preseason top 10 next year yet and the entire season starts out biased. It’s a joke. Expansion and auto qualifiers will end the polls which is what needs to happen.
