Pirates have best NL record in ST

Posted by SwampDog225 on 3/6/09 at 9:39 am
A team's record in Spring Training means nothing at all, but seeing that the Pirates (6-2) are on top of the NL standings...that's something you won't see during the regular season...this season and many more to come.

The dribble through Terry's legs with the pass to Butler for the flush was the play of the game.

Bob Cousy use to be called "Houdini" or "The Houdini Of The Hardwood". CP3 is catchy but I would like if he was known by another nickname because of the style of ball he plays. I call him the "Magician" because he makes of the mass number of steals he gets (from your hand to his) and very often when he does his best taking it off the dribble...many players can't see where the ball is. Kinda reminds me at times of The Pistol.

He looks damn healthy out there for someone who "supposedly" failed a physical.

I'm definitely not a casual baseball fan but I can see that somewhat. He's "viewer friendly" and doesn't come off sounding like some arrogant arse like other talking heads do.

Even if they were in a phone booth. CP makes a lot of players look stupid though...
Went to the arse kicking tonight. I really like it when we beat the Mavs. Very nice run the Hornets are on. 6-0 since Tyson returned which matches their season-high win streak.

The play of the night had to be when CP dribbled through Jason Terry’s legs then to Butler for the flush. The behind the back pass to Posey was sweet too. This team has been playing very well as of late. Going for #7 Sat night against Okla City.

Hampton didn't start out too good...hit the first batter then walked the next 2 but ended up pitching 2 scoreless innings and no injury...great news. Ortiz might work his way in the rotation seeing he looked good today as well. Overall pitching seemed good except for Graves.

Also some nice contributions from the young guys...Drew Sutton (2 singles), Towles (single), Chris Johnson (HR), Saccomano (triple), Manzella (single).

Stros take on the Braves tomorrow at Disney at 12:05 pm CT on ESPN as Oswalt takes the mound.

What was the crowd's reaction when they introduced A-Roid?
According to the "breaking news" earlier by ESPN (what a joke) the reporter said that it was mixed with boos and cheers. Even though the game was in Dunedin (Blue Jays park) which is not that far from Tampa...Yankeee fans still outnumbered the Blue Jays. Since the Yankees train in Tampa that's understandable.

These are just teasers anyway, the real test will be when the season starts...home and away. I'm expecting ESPN and later FOX to interupt the game in progress to announce that the crowd had more boos than cheers (and vice versa) and will have live fan interviews during the game about A-Roid and then an in-game poll about him, etc. I'm sure the situation will be overblown.

I've had the regular and premium MLB.TV before I ordered the MLB package on Cox but the fact you can log on from anywhere to catch a game is great.

Parks I've been to...

Astrodome
MMP
Turner Field
Yankee Stadium
Making an early run to Houston this year, never been to a game with the roof open.

Friday (April 17) and Saturday (April 18) vs Reds.

Then another trip later during the summer, just not sure when.

Give it up Tiger fans...I can't hear youuuuuuuu!

i want to know how the ref missed that shuffle
He's training for the NBA one day.
On Florida's quick TO, I would like to see LSU go to a zone just this one possession...b/c that's not what Billy is drawing up.
There we geaux...last 2 possessions got it inside...making it hurt.
Need more player movement on O, too much standing around not making that zone flex and again let's get the ball inside.
These outside shoots are great but we need to work to get the ball inside...either by passing or dribble penetration.
Just like any basketball game...
the first few minutes of the 2nd half sets the tempo and this team is doing that.

It would also help to maintain that play as well.
quote:

Trent has to figure this zone Def out at half.. we can't break it
He will, it's not that hard to understand what Florida is doing it's what LSU is not doing...need more ball movement, screens, not getting the ball inside as much, penetrating the gaps. the way they are matching up one could very easily run your man-to-man offense.
Agree with the "saves".

The number of wins a pitcher has is not that far behind.
I need a medal or a sanity test I guess since I went through all 12 pages...interesting to say the least.

If New Orleans was only like certain big cities...NY, Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, etc. then maybe attaching ones self (if you were born and raised here) would be easier having NFL, NBA, and MLB (and NHL) teams to pull for.

As far as the NBA...casual observer over the decades, picked a team during the playoffs. Repeat process next year. When the Hornets came to town things changed but not at first. I didn't go ape shite or anything. They started to grow on me and that's who I have been pulling for seriously over the last several years. I go to several games a year, have bought plenty of merch and keep up with them everyday.

My loyalty toward teams are like this. Similar to a previous post...Louisiana First!

LSU Fan (first and foremost, born into it and a Tiger grad)
Saints Fan
Hornets Fan

Astros Fan

re: Lance Berkman on Lance Berkman

Great story...that's too funny.

Berkman is so down to Earth...that's why many people can relate to him. He's become the face of the Astros...which could be a good thing or a bad thing.
