Who would have thought the 1980s would seem like a simpler, more innocent time?

Missing from all that is Coach Cryer also won a state championship at St. Mary's in 2015 after Southern Lab vacated it. St. Mary's has also took a big decline since the admin at St. Mary's fired him.

Actually, Coach Cryer had already left St. Mary's to coach at St. Louis in Lake Charles. You are referring to Coach Lee Doty who took the Tigers to the Dome his second year and was fired the following spring. Doty is now coaching a successful program at Sterlington.

Just for the record.

ETA: I wish Coach Cryer well. He and his family are good people.

Bentonville) for a late lunch

Went to the Tusk and Trotter a few weeks ago. Great place.
We've taken our kids to some pretty nice places around the country since they were small. If it was a really upscale place, we'd get an early, say 5:30 or 6 p.m. reservation. They were usually ready to eat at that time anyway and we would be gone by the time the real dinner crowd showed up.

If they are well-behaved, it's fine. We frequently bribed ours with promises of big deserts and left good tips for the wait staff.

I make a great sangria, but I'm on a mint julep kick at present.

The first meal (and Mai Tais) I had in Maui were at Mama's Fish House in Paia. The town was cool, the scenery was perfect and the company wasn't bad.

We drove around looking for this place and couldn't find it. Must have got bad directions.

Anyway, good luck with your jet lag.

Here is something fellow cocktail enthusiasts might enjoy:

Tipsy Diaries

The Tipsy Diaries is a new New York Times column about the city’s drinking life that will run every other week.

I've mentioned before that just reading about drinking elevates my mood. Cheers and happy Friday, y'all.

Also over the weekend I made mint juleps with fresh apple mint and they were top drawer.

Whats a dewberry?

A wild blackberry.
I strained the berries so the jelly is pretty much seedless, but it does have a light texture and a dark, rich color. It was my first foray into making jelly. I saved the strained berries to see how they do in a cobbler and I saved some extra syrup to see how it does in a cocktail.

I have pear and fig trees, too, for later.

Go me.

Up next: plum preserves
My mother-in-law gave me a stainless steel thing shaped like a bar of soap. I don't know why it works.

Here's a good recipe using the Mr. & Mrs. T mix:

4 1/2 ounces Mr. & Mrs. T Margarita mix.

1 1/2 ounces of a good 100% agave tequilla (like the Sauza Hornitos)

3/4 ounce Triple Sec (I use Hiram Walker...it has a higher alcohol content than most other triple secs).

Put into a martini shaker with crushed ice. Shake for 40 shakes, then strain through a strainer into a chilled Margarita glass.

Enjoy!

Have you ever thrown just a splash of Cointreau on top of that?

I've asked you this before I think, but do you live on Ralph St. in Natty?

No. Ralph St. is a euphemism for hurling after drinking too much.

I'm pretty sick of everything in Natchitoches, but if I were just breezing through town, I'd go to Merci Beaucoup for lunch.

These may possibly be the most underrated snack in North America. I love them.

That is all.

While you're on the subject, we got a subscription to Draft magazine recently. Pretty cool for those who like to eat and drink, as well as those who brew.

I must confess that there was a gnat in my beer at Luke on a recent Sunday, and I did tell the server about it after I fished it out and drank the beer anyway. It was on the house.

I got plain white china (Wedgewood) and I still love it 15 years later. I use it several times a year. It's easier to use when it's not in a box in the attic. I still love my everyday dishes, too, and have only broken one plate. I use the crystal pretty much every day.

We got a lot of gadgets (bread maker, juicer, etc.) as wedding gifts that have gathered dust in the dark recesses of the pantry, but I use the heck out of a crock pot, a good Dutch oven and cast iron skillets. And, you may only use it once a year, but an ice cream maker is fun to have. Homemade ice cream just makes people happy.

I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it would hit the spot.

It is thanks to el tigre that I found this link and am happy to share it.
Did you look at Pottery Barn?

I got one from Bassett that matches my dining room furniture.
That was a good read but I especially appreciate the link to the "A Cocktail for What Ails You" story.

Happy holidays, El Tigre.

Yes, well, I felt the same way about T4E and TBabe having a baby. Congratulations.
