Was just watching BTN Live and they had a poll asking which Big Ten team has the toughest bowl matchup and 45% chose Iowa vs. LSU. The next closest was 17%.

Do you really think any player on our team cares about avenging a loss that occurred when they were in elementary school? Sure, fans have long memories but these players could probably give a damn what jersey their opponent is wearing.

God don't make me feel old! I was 24 at the time. It doesn't seem *that* long ago.

Don't you think the media will be talking about the result of the one and only time these two have played?

Weren't any of your players local kids who grew up LSU fans? I know there are plenty of Iowa players who grew up Iowa fans and remember that game. If not, they will hear about it from the media and fans.

Expos, you guys might beat us. It's a boring bowl game with nothing on the line. If we play early next year you'd have no chance.

I think the things that are on the line for Iowa are the same for LSU:

1. Pride
2. Bowl Record
3. a good ending to the season (another W)
4. your record against us, and ours against you.

You guys want revenge for the '05 Cap One Bowl.. and we want to hold onto bragging rights.

I think that would be enough motivation.
Mr. Wolf ---

Thanks for proving my point. All I said was that fans of programs like OSU, Alabama, Michigan.. and apparently LSU dismiss other teams as inferior when in fact many of those other teams also have rich history and traditions... The only one beating their chest is you. I keep reading from your fans saying they never heard of Iowa and Iowa is a bottom tier opponent. They must have been born after the 2005 Cap One bowl...

I listed some history that Iowa fans are proud of to show that even though we don't have 10 AP national titles... we still have lots to be proud of. And you come on here like an Ohio State fan and start trying to one up me on everything.

Which basically proves my point about many of you. Trust me, you don't want to be lumped in with Ohio State fans.
This is what I don't like about fans from certain schools like Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, USC, Miami, Florida, Texas etc... LSU

They think so highly of their history and tradition and think they are above everyone else. And they also seem to be closed minded on the tradition and history of any school with less national championships.

Yes LSU has had more success in college football than Iowa. No one is going to argue that. But if you think Iowa fans are not proud of their history and tradition then you're a moron. And you've been drinking too much swamp water and need to realize there's a whole country outside of the bayou.

Iowa has only had 1 losing season in the last 13 years. Has beaten Florida, South Carolina, Missouri, Georgia Tech, and LSU in bowl games in the last 10 years. All being 9+ win seasons.

We've had many award winners including Maxwell, Doak Walker, Lou Groza, Mackey, Coach of the Year.

We have a Heisman winner that the stadium is named after.

We've had 3 other Heisman runner ups.

We have many players in the NFL. I don't know what it is right now, but a few years ago there were only a handful of teams with more draft picks over a 5 year period.

I could go on and on about Iowa's football history. I could talk about #1 Iowa vs. #2 Michigan in 1985, Hayden Fry, Alex Karras, 15 straight wins over Iowa State.

I'm not gonna bore you anymore... this is already too long didn't read material... but my point is... Iowans are proud of their tradition and history in football. And we don't give a sh*t if you are or not.

LSU was lucky Iowa didn't call timeout before attempting to spike the ball. Otherwise we probably would have won it with a GW field goal.

But I think Tate wanted to end that season more dramatically.

The article is about the Princeton Review's annual list of top party schools. They listed Iowa as #1. It's no surprise (and frankly nothing to be proud of) we've pretty much been #1 or in the top 10 since the list started.

Iowa City is great party town. And we tailgate with the best of them. Although IMO tailgating was better in the early 2000's. It was wilder back then. for instance you can't have an open container on the street anymore.

For Bowl games there's a lot of families going on vacation. Also a lot of students there to party. A lot of middle to upper class families. We represent well at bowls. It's a fact. We did in '05... I remember being in Orlando and seeing mostly Iowa fans on the streets, at the theme parks, and at the events. In Tampa, we are all over the beaches and other attractions in the area the week leading up to the game.

Yeah pretty much. I take it you've never been there?

Well at least you spared a moment to read my improperly punctuated question and for that I thank you.
Are some of you guys illiterate or something. There's like 10 posts on here saying it was too long to read.

Well I have seen that alligator trapping show Swamp People... so I suppose maybe that accounts for it.

That's a great reason to look forward to the game.
I'm glad someone here is actually excited about the matchup.

One thing you guys fail to realize is that you led that game for a total of 45 seconds.

45 seconds out of 60 minutes. Who beat who? On the final scoreboard and during the game...

LSU? They sucked this year and almost got best by a horrible Arkansas team. Iowa will stomp a mud hole in their arse! LSU, what a joke

guess that negates your "advantage" since cocky fans seems to be an advantage on the field now. But I guess when your Iowa, you have to look for all the advantages you can find

I can assure that is not the feeling of most of our fanbase. We're coming of a 4 win season in 2012. We are hardly cocky. Every fan base has a lot of idiots like that. Iowa has more than most. But in general we are aware it's gonna take hard work and planning by the Hawks to win this one.

We'll give you, the 6th best team we've played all year, the attention you deserve.

We may be the 6th best team you've played all year. But that's looking at the season as a whole.

We led both BCS bound Ohio State and Michigan State at halftime. But ended up taking the losses.
But the last two games Iowa played were convincing wins over Michigan and at Nebraska.

It seems we are now closing out games much better.

I think you guys are under-estimating Iowa. But you did that in '05 too. So it was to be expected.

We're not playing the game man.

True, but I find the general feel from the fans kind of reflects on the overall atmosphere of the game. I see LSU taking Iowa lightly (albeit not as lightly as the fans you better hope). And Iowa working their asses off this month to end this season with a big W.

Also Ferentz went to the Orange Bowl after the 02 season and they partied in miami and had fun. They got blown out by USC. Ever since then Ferentz is all business with bowl games. It's only a vacation for the fans and the band. And it shows in Iowa's bowl record since then.

Haha. You guys are just as overconfident and cocky as you were in '05.

I see this as an advantage for Iowa.

Tate is playing the CFL. He either is or at least was a starting QB for one of the team. Saskatchewan I think. If they televised those games here in the states I would watch.

If you see a pic of them being impeded, will you admit it?

I've seen the pic. Have you seen the video of the actual play? I'm sure you have -- it's on Youtube. That's why you need a pic... because the video of the play that the refs watched with their own two eyes or 8 eyes or whatever doesn't show a penalty. It shows an open receiver and two LSU defenders scrambling to cover him... albeit just a moment to late.

Was a hell of a team.

not so much

Haha.. true. This Iowa team is not world beaters. But can they win one game with several weeks to prepare? Yes, they can.
quote:

Somebody show noeye the pic with the push in the back and the holding in the same snap shot.

Wasn't there a little video with arrows pointing out the 4 (?) penalties?

Yeah and if that play wasn't to win the Capital One Bowl, then not a single person would have said there were penalties on that play.

That's how 'blatant' those penalties were. If you watch it at full speed none of LSU's guys were impeded. They just got beat. And can you blame them? The guy who caught the TD was a senior who had never caught a TD in his career. I wouldn't have been too worried about the ball going to him either..
quote:

Whoa whoa whoa.

What's this "throws to the TE" thing you are talking about?

You can do that????

Turns out our last QB didn't know you could. Even though he had a 5-star high school recruit playing at TE. That same TE has caught several TDs this season. Now that he's being used.
Haha I remember all the Matt Roth hype.

I also remember him at the pep rally in Orlando saying he had two words for LSU... and then he held up two middle fingers. Which got him into some trouble.

He ended up playing for the Dolphins, Browns, and Jaguars. Mostly as a reserve. Too small to be a DL, so in the pros they tried moving him to LB.

Wow I still have an account here!

Last time I was here was during the month leading up to the Cap One Bowl. What a great memory. I was there in Orlando and it was amazing. Hope it's another classic game...

Boy we did not think we had a good team coming into this year. a new starter at QB with zero game experience. Coming off a 4 win season in 2012. But things shaped up much nicer than anyone predicted and we find ourselves blessed with a nice bowl game against a great opponent.

It turns out the QB is pretty good, he throws to the TEs which is classic Iowa football. Also we are blessed with very good linebackers. Hitchens, Morris, and Kirksey. The last time we played you guys was the last time we had linebackers this good: Abdul Hodge, Chad Greenway and Edmond Miles.
When Iowa has good upper classmen linebackers, they are almost always good. See 2002 (11-2) Orange, 2004 (10-2) Cap One, 2009 (11-2) Orange.

Also the last time we played you we were playing our 5th string running back. We lost 4 RBs to injury that year. It was like a backup high school RB out there. We won that game with a stellar defense and Drew Tate's gunslinger passing. Including what Iowa fans refer to as "The Catch"... and those holding calls you guys think should have been called don't hold water. Watch the play at full speed. There were no penalties it was blown coverage by LSU. (sorry...don't hate me)

Anyway, the big difference in this game is our running game is much better than in the 2005 Cap One Bowl. We have 3 tailbacks. Weisman, Canzeri, and Bullock. All have talent and all have experience. Weisman is the tractor tough white boy and Canzeri/Bullock are the change of pace speed guys. I imagine you'll see Canzeri more than Bullock. Our offensive line is anchored by a first round draft pick Scherff at LT.

The passing game is a WIP and not as good as it was in 2005. But when it's at its best it's throwing to TE's. Iowa is known for developing NFL TE's, I think there's 3 starting in the NFL right now maybe 5 total... and we have at least two future pros on this team.

The defense is not as good as '05. Goes without saying.. that was arguably the best D in Iowa history. This years defense is very good and getting better every game. I already mentioned the linebackers, but the secondary with BJ Lowery and Tanner Miller brings hard hits and athletic pass defense.

Another thing is that we are gonna travel. This year has been a big surprise and the core fans who travel to bowls will be out in full force. So expect an Iowa City atmosphere down in Tampa. This is our 4th Outback Bowl. I've been to two of them and we take over Tampa for the week every time.
I hope you guys play Penn State, because that means Iowa is in the Fiesta Bowl.

You guys that think PSU is the stronger team and Iowa is weak are delusional. I remember you all saying that same kinda stuff in '05 before the Cap One Bowl. If I remember correctly (and I do because I was there) Iowa came out and smacked LSU in the mouth in that game. In your defense your guys made a comeback... only to lose.

Iowa will have a month to prepare for either LSU or Boise St. Whoever the opponent is will get the Hawks best and they are pretty damn good, especially on defense. I remember all you guys scoffing at our defense in '05... This years D is better than that one.

Anyways, I know I'm talking smack... but I'm glad you guys are hoping for Penn State ... might have a better chance at a W.
