This idea and the comment you quoted were exactly what I was thinking. That's like saying a team that's ranked preseason #1 is already in the conversation with 2019 LSU.
HIMYM comes to mind. I loved it, until I hated it. I can't even watch early season episodes that I initially enjoyed because of how much the later seasons absolutely ruined the story and characters for me.
I do like the Pitt, but it might not even be Noah Wylie's best role as a doctor by the time it's over.
ETA:
House is another example. Great show until a terrible ending.
