Neil caudle. Haven’t thought about that name in a long time.
my dad (API ‘52, RIP) knew Neil’s mom, said they were a great family

Neil was the last man to touch the football before we won the BCSCG
it does seem like they would make more of an effort to generate some excitement for the program given the historically awful last 5 years or so

I had a man on Federal Probation where he and his elderly father agreed that upon his death would be buried in the back yard and a concrete slab poured over top of him so his son could collect his military pension. He collected it or close to 20 years until an audit realized that the guy was over a century old and they looked into it.
interesting plan

i’m sure they realized that they would never be able to keep it up indefinitely, and that the son would face prosecution when the scheme was figured out - and with the body completely inaccessible the son could never get a legit death certificate so i assume he hoped to die himself before getting caught

of course it could be that the son made up the “agreement” with his dad since we don’t have the dad around to confirm

he was at UNA for a season or two before he went to Akron

also in 2021 his LAMO team went 4-8… one of their wins was vs Liberty, coached by Freezus :dope:

i thought he was gonna be a great HC for AU until the 1995 UF game - getting beatdown by a Spurrier team in those days wasn’t unexpected, but later ESPN was doing a profile on his mom dealing with her husband and two sons all HCs at major programs, and in it she’s consoling Tot on the phone after the game and he said “we got to get better players”

little shithead never took responsibility for his shortcomings (pun intended)

Schedule - Hard as frick
yeah, Freezus completely fricked up the last two relatively soft schedules

as awful as Harsin was, the only embarrassing loss to a bad team during his tenure was 2021 SC, and that was on the road with Scooter making his first start at QB after Bo’s injury

Freezus managed to drop a half dozen games to shitty opponents in addition to getting arsewhipped by most of the good ones

thanks Corch, given the apparent upgrade in coaching, gameplanning and decision making we should be a solid but unspectacular team this fall

at the very least i expect us to not to completely waste what talent we have like the last couple of seasons

it may be just me, but isnt it weird that practically every HFC at AU still lives nearby? even the ones we fired

Dye lived in Auburn til he died
Bowden lived here for a decade after we fired him
Tubs came back and ran for the US Senate
Gustav is back in the area
i bet Freezus ends up settling down a long 9 iron shot away from Moores Mill

Hasin does know ball, he just doesn't know how to be a head coach
i think he knew how to be an HC in the pre-NIL/transfer portal era

the sport changed radically just before his first season at AU, and it seemed to me that he was unable/unwilling to change his methods

it will he interesting to see how he does if some school takes a flyer on him as an HC next year once his payday from AU runs out
quote:

Dont forget Harsin literally ran a "I am the chemo to the cancer" to the players from the Gus era. Hokanson defended this while Harsin was HC.
when we were 6-2 and ranked in the top 15 mid season it seemed like whatever he was doing was working

but him running off the WR coach around that time was the first of several red flags

anyway, i bought into the initial Harsin “changing the culture” hype, so i’m guilty as charged

all i can say about Golesh is, he’s the first AU HFC in decades that doesn’t make me smh whenever he opens his mouth

DeCline is about to start his 3rd season as a head coach with an NCAA team for the first time.ever. At any level.

It's kind of humorous that y'all will be the guinea pig for discovering if he can actually build a program (or sustain what someone else already built).
i’ve pointed this out numerous times and been dismissed

guess we’ll see what happens

the better comparison isnt Alabama 2026 vs Canada 2026

its Alabama 2026 vs Alabama 1966

contrast that with Canada 2026 vs Canada 1966

which seems to have made better overall policy visa vis their economic growth and the general welfare of their citizens
