Taxidermist in Baton Rouge - Gray Fox
Posted by HSV Tigah on 1/3/21 at 5:01 pm
OB,
My son killed a nice fox that I would like to have mounted for him. Anyone have a recommendation for a taxidermist in the BR area?
TIA

Yamaha Grizzly 450, Thoughts from the OB
Posted by HSV Tigah on 5/12/20 at 11:23 am
Hi OB, I’m in the market for an atv and looking for the unicorn - all stock, gently used, low hours.... I’ve been watching a few Honda ranchers and foreman on FB marketplace to see what may be available near me. There is also a 2014 Grizzly 450 with low hours and miles. From what I have read, this bike is not fuel injected but it looks like it has overall good reviews and high reliability.
My question for the OB - any Overall comments or experience with the Grizzly 450 compared to the Honda’s? Any experience with non fuel injected machines? I’ve always had carbureted ATVs but was planning to move to EFI...
TIA

Thanks, seems like I heard that too. If it’s only WMA that might be ok.
Seller is a grandpa who said he must have misplaced the title. 2007 model that he bought in 07.

Used ATV purchase question - Bill of Sale
Posted by HSV Tigah on 5/2/19 at 11:12 am
OB,
I have a used ATV I’m interested in. It’s an older model that would not come with a title. The owner will do notorized bill of sale. Any reason to be concerned with not having a title. The bike is 10 years old.
TIA

That’s funny and sadly it’s probably true and the exact reason I’m hesitant to buy new. When he rode the hell out of his little 125 and brought it back covered in mud and weeds I just chuckled because it didn’t really matter. I think I will go this route and continue to look for a used non snorkeled non lifted bike in relatively good condition. Back up will be to buy a new Recon 250.
Hit submit too soon...
Here is the Grizzly I was referencing. Can’t get the pic from the Sportsman Website to paste.

Ok OB. I sold the Grizzly 125 to my brother in law so now I have to find a replacement bike for my 12 year old. I’ve been back and forth with buying a recon 250 for him or something bigger like the rancher 420 or Kodiak 450 that I can also jump on and use around the house. I’ve been researching this week and would like to find a gently used grizzly 350 or 450 (looks like 2014 was the last production year). Been searching FB and sportsman and ran across this 450, a little older than I would like but appears to be well kept and maintained. I sent a note to the seller asking about it. Anyone have anything to look out for on a 1007 Grizzly 450? TIA
Search continues. Have not visited Brookhaven Honda or ATV zone yet. I’ve been researching some used and like the idea of finding a used Grizzly 350 or 450. It won’t be too large for my 12 year old but I can

We have a male. He will be 5 in July and is great as a family pet. Great around kids, generally well mannered. Took some work as a pup but he is literally one of the family.
For sure. Seeing so many snorkeled and abused has me thinking I might just bite the bullet and buy new.

Sold my son’s grizzly 125 today since he had outgrown it. I’m looking at replacing it with a new Rancher or Kodak 450 but want to also check around for gently used machines in the area. Checking craigslist, LA sportsman, and FB marketplace any other suggestions?
Thanks

Thanks for the input OB.... got 3 nights booked to float the Buffalo the week after Easter. I’ll post some info after the trip. My son is really excited!!!
Buffalo River Outfitter
Posted by HSV Tigah on 3/27/19 at 9:04 am
Posted topic on the OB looking for feedback on possible location for canoe float trip next month with 12 year old son. Strong recommendations to go do the Buffalo River in Arkansas. I’ll be looking for a cabin for a few nights close to water to enjoy the scenery.
Search of TD found some recommendations for Buffalo River Outfitter, any other recommendations for a cabin in the area?
TIA

Canoe float trip with son - Buffalo River or other
Posted by HSV Tigah on 3/26/19 at 9:47 pm
Looking for suggestions from the OB. Have a 12 year old son and we are looking for a father son trip the week after Easter when he is out of school. I have been eyeing the Buffalo river near Jasper Ark to find a cabin and canoe, catch some small mouths, hike, etc. any suggestions on other locations I should take a look at?
TIA
TIA
Thanks for all the feedback. I was thinking about the 450 because the “midsized” frame would be easier for the wife and kids if they ride it. I will have to go take a look at the 700 to see the physical difference. I’ve got a 12 year old who may be on it as much or more than me!
Thoughts on Yamaha Kodiak 450

OB, I’m starting to look for a new ATV and I am interested in the new Yamaha Kodiak 450. All reviews a seem to be really positive. Anyone have any experience with this bike? I think it’s been out for a couple of years.
Any input is appreciated.

Thanks for all the input! I think I am going to stay on this track and look for the Recon.
Kawasaki has a 300 4x4 but it looks like Yamaha and Honda don’t have anything in that range. Unfortunately!!

I’m in BR, yes will probably sell the grizzly but would like to find the replacement bike first. He would not be happy to be without anything.
Thoughts on atv for 12 year old
Posted by HSV Tigah on 1/12/19 at 9:51 pm
OB - my boy turns 12 this week and has outgrown the grizzly 125 that he has been riding for the last 4-5 years. I am going to look for something in the off-season and was thinking about the Recon 250. I’m thinking about the 250 because I really would like something that he can handle that would not be too heavy for him to get out from under if he rolls it. Thought about a Rancher 420 or trying to find a Rancher 350 4x4 in good shape, but these are bigger machines. Does anyone have their kids on a 250, do you regret not getting something bigger? He’s a typical 6th grader, about 90 pounds soaking wet. My plan would be for this to work for him through high school. We are currently hunting in Liberty, so the terrain is not too aggressive. Thanks for your input!
Thanks for the response stout. The land is acreage, not part of a subdivision. In addition to the cost, I was trying to get a feel for the hassle that the land owner next to me would have to go through to carve out a portion of his land to sell me. I assumed he would be subdividing his one parcel to two so he can sell me one? Thanks for the feedback.
Cost and effort to subdivide land
Posted by HSV Tigah on 12/25/17 at 10:40 pm
I have a rural lot in SE Baton Rouge and am thinking about contacting my neighbor to see if they would sell a portion of their lot to accommodate the house and layout we are considering. I know the fair market value of the land but I don't know the cost involved with subdividing. Does anyone have experience subdividing a parcel, what costs and hassle would I be looking at?
TIA

I went in 2012, you have to go apply for the visa at the consulate in Houston. I went for work and had to have document in company letterhead describing what I would be doing there. Was pretty painless, you can visit the consulate online to see the details.
New Badboy Ambush Hybrid

Anyone have any experience with the hybrid model? I have an all electric now that is good in the woods and for cruising the neighborhood but it would be nice to have the gas option for long rides and work days at the camp.......

re: Borrow from 401K vs conventional loan???

Thanks for the feedback. I was uncomfortable with this approach and this validated my concerns. Small relative loan amount, will just go conventional secured.
Borrow from 401K vs conventional loan???
Posted by HSV Tigah on 11/9/13 at 7:53 am
Contemplating a major purchase and will likely borrow some money. No issues with credit or access to other loans but I would like some opinions on borrowing from 401k. Loan would be 5% of current 401 balance. My diversification strategy is to have 5 to 10% in stable value funds that typically return a lower rate than I would pay on the amount I borrow from myself. I would just move this portion of my portfolio out and keep the current strategy for the balance.
What does the money board say, am I overlooking something?
TIA
