re: Who will succeed Paterno?

Posted by whiteyc777 on 9/13/10 at 1:13 pm to
The next head coach at Penn State will be Tom Bradley, and he will likely be taking over in 2012.

Bradley should be the coach for about 5-7 years depending on the amount of success he has. Then PSU is likely to conduct a more national search.

enjoyed meeting some PSU fans this weekend. You make it to the game?

Unfortunately, no. I am about to become an uncle for the first time anyday, and I couldn't get away.

I do hope to be up in Happy Valley next year, so that we can reciprocate the hospitality.

Congrats to Bama from PSU fan...

Congrats, Alabama. That was a well-deserved win.

Good luck to you guys the rest of the way.

He's won the 5th most games amongst BCS teams over the last 5 seasons, including 2 conference championships.

I sure can't wait to see what he's been holding us back from!

Joe Pa basically said for them to win this weekend would be a miracle.

He said that this was probably the best team his squad will have faced since the 1986 National Championship game in the Fiesta Bowl against Miami.

And we all know what happened in that one.

Joe Pa vs. Lloyd Carr was the biggest hammer-nail "rivalry" I've ever seen.

Carr owned Paterno, 9-2.

The only thing the SEC is worse at than hiring officials is being honest about the mistakes the officials make. They simply never admit the refs made a mistake. No matter how ridiculous the refs' calls are, they never admit a mistake.

They admitted mistakes twice just last year.

And I feel like I've been pretty civil as well in this conversation. (This is being directed at a previous post saying how nice ConnorBeach has been)

Dynamite analysis.

I guess that doesn't say anything positive for Joe Pa that he has hired such good assistants that they can win the 5th most games amongst BCS schools in the past 5 years. Even without his clueless help!

At this point, I'm more scared of the future without JoePa, or rather worried that the Penn State administration won't go for the best coach possible.

Bingo.

Every PSU fan has basically resigned themselves to the notion that the next HC will come from within. Likely to be current DC Tom Bradley.

I don't mind having Bradley as the next HC, but I hope that they do a nationwide search to determine if he is the best available candidate.

White can you give a little insight into the capabilities of this true frosh, I don't know shite about this years Penn State team other than expecting the usual tough defense.

I'll do my best.

4-star guy who played in a very run heavy offense in HS. Had a ton of offers from prominent schools.

What impresses me most about him is his footwork and his release. Most freshman QB's have "happy feet." I haven't seen that with Bolden yet. Admittedly, it's been scrimmages and Youngstown State to see film on, but it's been impressive nonetheless.

His release has been lightning quick. That gives me hope against Bama since he will be facing a heavy rush all night.

Has above average mobility. Decent touch.(really 4-5 nice throws on Saturday that required the right amount of touch.) Still looking to build some rapport with the WR's, as there were a few passes that looked like the timing was off between he and WR. The lone INT came when his receiver slipped and fell.

Arm strength is above average, but deep ball does not have a lot of accuracy right now. Had his most success completing passes in the middle of the field between 12-20 yards.

Seriously white dude, I hope you guys can pull the upset, but if we step back and stop all the smack talking, I don't think PSU matches up with the gumps on their home field well at all. Personally I pulled for Penn State in 79 yep that's how far my hate for bama goes. The last two years have been unbearable unbearable, that's almost funny So all I can say is good luck and I will be pulling for, ya'll that's southern for you guys, to win.

In my mind, there are only 2 things that could be an advantage for PSU in this one:

1. The unknown - I never in a million years thought that Joe Pa would actually start a true freshman. Maybe, just maybe, you can teach an old dog new tricks. If so, then maybe we can get out of the conservative mentality that has plagued Paterno-led teams on the road in hostile environments. Maybe we come out with something that is totally unexpected and unprepared for.

2. Our WR's vs their DB's - An experienced group going up against an inexperienced unit. WR is definitely a strength for PSU. If Bolden gets some time, then I like this matchup. I'm not expecting that to happen, however.

-YTC
I know it's hard for you guys to believe this, but the true freshman absolutely gives PSU a better chance at winning. The playbook wasn't getting opened up even if it was Bolden or Newsome. So, why not go with the better looking QB?

If Bama whips PSU (wins by 2 scores), then they will have done exactly what they were supposed to do.

Regardless of what happens in this game, Penn State is still a 9 win team in the Big Televen.

I wouldn't root for anOSU in an exhibition ping-pong match against Al-Qaeda.

What's wrong with you people? I'd feel nauseous if I rooted for my rival under any circumstances.

That being said, we've probably got no shot in this one. Even if it means losing by 21+, I'd love to see the offense come out aggressive.

No, I perfectly get this. I agree that he was hit before the ball got to him. I'm just saying that it was legal for him to be hit.

Although I think both teams are solid, I believe Alabama will cover the spread. Penn State has a young team and having to play in a hostile SEC environment against a top notch team may just be too much for them. I think the game will be close early but the 'bama will wear them out in the 2nd half and cover the spread.

What does the conference have to do with the environment? What if they were playing at Vandy or Ole Miss? Would it be as hostile?

I agree that it will be a hostile environment against a top notch team, but the conference has got nothing to do with it.

Posted by whiteyc777 on 9/7/10 at 5:10 pm to

The crazy crap that is being posted in this thread is ridiculous.

I've played and watched a ton of football in my day and it most certainly legal to do what the UNC player did. You cannot interfere with a player trying to make a catch of a free kick, but you may once the ball hits the ground.

The object of the kicker is have the ball bounce as high in the air as possible so the kicking team can block as many players as possible and have your player recover the kick ten yards down field. This is the reason the ball is kicked into the ground. Once it hits the ground you may make contact with the receiving team, but may not make contact with the ball until it reaches 10 yards. The protection of the receiver is only of kicks that do not hit the ground (ie. you cannot fair catch a squib kick).

In this instance the LSU player was contacted in the neutral zone by the UNC player as he was making contact with the ball. After the LSU player made contact with the ball it is a live ball for recovery by the kicking team.

I'm pretty sure that I'm right, but it's just unusual that all of these things happened in this play.

But we're just idiots here...
