College Free Agency aka “ the portal and nil

1. It is Wild Wild West currently. Teams are supposed to cap nil at $20.5 mil per season. Obviously some teams are exceeding this amount.
2. I do like being able to reach out and fine tune your needs. I clearly see why a General Manager is needed.
3. Nil and the portal will get coaches fired quicker. In the past, your pitch was I need a 10 year contract to build the program Not anymore. AD’s won’t be playing patty cake patty cake, build me a team in 5 years. Better do it in 3 or you’re gone.
4. I see the SEC growing to 24 teams. Playing 9 conference, 2 P4 1 G5. The growth is needed to fuel the nil dollars
5. I see ND, Michigan, OSU, USC, Indiana, Miami, Fl St, Penn St, moving over for the money
The. b10 is really a boring conference except for the above programs
I see college ball being organized like the NFL.
It will be great.

In today’s world, it’s purely business. Bama needs different than Texas so you pay for your needs
I am beginning to understand this nil/ portal and I honestly like it. Don’t have to wait 2-3 years for a coach to reload.
Plus, these portal players are proven commodities unlike hs recruits.
In addition, hs recruits will leave after 1 year if not good and you get to cleanse your roster.

The SEC has been ESPN/ ABC’s cash cow for years. A select few made a handsome living off the money from TV. Since donor money is unlimited in theory, players will be making more money than they would in the NFL. Also, the players will sue to be able to play as long as enrolled and working toward degree. No Court will deny them this right.
So, the poor south can’t compete with the AAU RICH NORTHERN SCHOOLS. ESPN will fight hard to get its teeth into the B10 They won’t be interested in paying for Bama/LSU who are bad teams etc etc
Only way to stop this madness is forming NFL like league with 64 teams and 4 conferences with 4 divisions each conference.
1. Have spring Draft and free agency dates.
2. Collective bargaining
3. Contract employees ( this will be biggest sticking point)
4. No portal after 2 years you can enter free agency.
All networks compete for tv rights.
Commissioner of Football - selected by for conferences.

Cignetti seems to have similar disposition as Saban. I agree, he has done tremendous coaching job with 3 stars. Do I think he’s a better coach than KD? Absolutely!! I firmly believe in life you stay true to who you are. Saban left because he was getting old and was tired. Could he have dealt with nil and portal?? Yes, just fine.
I perceive cignetti a disciplinarian like Saban. Cignetti will face similar issues at Indiana in coming years as he loads up on prima donnas. Will be interesting to see how he fares.
KD is the worst type of coach, a “Players Coach”.

It was the Bama “Brand” that got us into the playoffs this year. Wasn’t KD at all. Bama was the most watched team this year and most years.
Bama did not deserve to be in. I’m sorry if any of my fellow Bama brothers disagrees. We were horribly dysfunctional and won some games by a miracle.
Bama needs a Cignetti type coach. Someone who understands Pro ball and how to coach rich prima donnas. KD has no clue how to navigate this new world of college ball.

3. Bama fans (BMD’s) included, are spoiled. We expect too much every year. It’s just who we are. That being said, KD does not have 10 years to win a conference or Natty.

The issue is not KD. It’s Greg Byrne for hiring him.
The issue is Coach Saban made a spur of the moment decision to retire and left the program at the worst possible time.
Instead of having Saban involved in the interview and hiring process, Byrne was panicked about getting anyone onboard to keep players from bolting.
They bolted. You know who they were. If we still had those players the outcome this year would have been different.
We live in a total new reality. Schools like Indiana who I’m guessing their BMD can outspend Bama’s BMD three times over bought a team full of mercenaries. On top of that, put a coach like cignetti who is a clone of Saban, and you have 38-3.
I’m old and have seen great Bama moments, things in college are turning NFL like. Expect to go decades before you sniff another run at a Natty unless the BMD, if they can open their wallets and hire some mercenaries like Indiana.
Congratulations to Indiana, awesome teams.

2. Someone or multiple people need to be fired.
A. Grub must go
B. Womack must go
If DeBoer is to save his job I say he has 3 years to right the ship. After 5 years, the buyout will be manageable. He can have no more losses like we saw the other night.
3. DeBoer needs to hire Jeremy Pruitt and get run first OC.
These things need to happen fast.
My biggest hope is the Penn St. gets DeBoer and his entire incompetent staff leaves with him.
It is time to burn it down and start over.
Roll Damn Tide.!
