Just finished the "Coyote" trilogy by Allen Steele. Decent read. I give it a 7 out of 10.
Trying to read "Spindrift" now as it is an offshoot of the Coyote story. About 1/4 of the way in and I'm not really feeling it.
May set it aside for a while to do a re-read of the "Hyperion Cantos" by Dan Simmons. Fascinating story.

I use 2 sites for free Kindle format Ebooks. Mostly independent authors. Both sites search Amazon daily for free books. Amazon has a notoriously crap search engine for ebooks, especially free ebooks. These sites do the searching for you. All legally free. No signup required. Updated daily. Both sites have really good filters so it just takes a few minutes each day to search for all the newly added offerings fitting your favorite genres...

Here's another site where you can spend a lot of time searching through links to numerous sites containing free ebooks. Various formats. Some obscure and off the wall stuff at some of them...

Been there. Mom had dementia before she passed. Believe me...taking away the car keys was one of the "easier" things we had to contend with, compared to what was to come. Luckily I have several siblings and we were all on the same page as to how to handle the situation(s). Everyone pitched in. I hope you have several other family members to help out. Almost impossible to manage something of this scope flying solo. Large family or not, help is out there. Find it. You will need it. Thicken your skin. Let hurtful words roll off your back. You will get through it.

The sad part is that he and I had similar tastes in music, and he would have loved to have played more stuff. Unfortunately he, along with every other PD in the country, believes this garbage and stick to it.
Did he really believe it or did he just have to toe the company line and play whatever swill the parent company mandated? I've always wondered about that. Hard to believe that the crap music programming now is profitable. Perhaps my music taste is too discerning? How dare I expect to be entertained by music.

Well the radio didn't suck back then
This is correct. Especially with early FM radio. Most rock stations would play complete album versions of songs instead of the shortened AM versions. Also most FM DJs didn't blab useless fluff that drowned out half the song intros. They would announce the song, shut up and let it rip. Some even had the audacity to play an entire album side, uninterrupted. What a concept. Radio was great back in the day. Really sad to see how it has devolved. You now have to purchase satellite radio to even get close now days. Been there and done that. Not worth it to me. Not when I can access gigabytes of my own music collection and play directly through my car/home stereo.
As for discovering new music in this day and time...Youtube.

Really interesting topic MDS. Gonna really date myself here but in early 70s my friends and I would swap and make copies of 8 track tapes. Yep...8 tracks. Nothing like listening to a 5th generation 8 track but we played them loudly & proudly. Mid to late 70s, when FM radio really started to take off, I still remember the day I hooked up an old TV antenna to my stereo. We were on the fringe for Atlanta FM radio reception. My "high tech" antenna brought a multitude of new stations booming in. Hell, it would even light up the "STEREO" light. I almost cried. A couple of those stations were amazing. 96 Rock was awesome. I would record 8's and later cassettes directly from their broadcast and share with my hardcore, music loving friends. Always had a blank tape locked & loaded. MTV was also important, though to a lesser extent for me, a number of years later. Music "sharing" didn't just start with the internet.
Most likely a blown lower element. That's usually the cause of running out of hot water too quickly. Good chance to clean the lime deposits out of the bottom of the tank when/if you change it out.
re: Could DirecTV dispute signal the beginning of the end for Weather Channel?

The final straw for me with TWC was when they started assigning names to winter storms. I think they over-stepped with that and they are arrogant enough to expect the rest of the weather services to follow their lead. Oh and....I despise Al Roker. I won't miss them one bit.
I love the Steeldrivers...with Stapleton. They are still solid with the new front man but let's face it, Chris is what put them over the top. What is up with him anyway? Leaves SD, forms the Jompson Brothers (did not care for them), now he's trying a solo country thing? I wish he would figure it out. Don't mean to hijack but this song is great

If you absolutely can't find anything you need at Dicks, you could lose a bit of the value and trade the card here:
Plastic Jungle
Note--I have not used this site yet but I have a card I'm going to try it with. Anyone used it?

On Netflix IW now. Anyone ever watch? Used to watch it on PBS. A bit slow paced but overall OK. Opinions?
They Came To Play

Just watched it on IW. Not bad if you like classical style piano. Some of those amateurs are amazing musicians. One of the contestants is a guy from Bham AL.
Not nearly as good as I hoped for. Had it in queue for quite a while. Worth watching on a slow day. 6 out of 10.
I though it was pretty solid. I like movies that are "different". 3.5 out of 5

Just noticed it. Saw it years ago. Pretty funny movie.

The problem with this show is that in truth they wanted to replace BSG not Stargate.
^^^^This...It's like they're attempting to make a hybrid of BSG and Stargate Atlantis. Doing a poor job of it too. I'm watching this season but if I don't start seeing freaky-looking, blood thirsty, killer aliens and strange new worlds, I'm out. I have loved all of the other SG series. Scifi channel--either feast or famine...aint much in between.
Roku player-Anyone else use one
Posted by TAJSJ on 9/25/10 at 8:15 am
to stream Netflix IW? I've had one for a few weeks now and it works great. I don't have a blazing fast internet speed <1.5 (yep..sux for me) That's the max. my remote location allows. My laptop had to buffer frequently during movies and it was frustrating. Decided to try Roku and it almost never interrupts for buffering. Sure, I'm not getting HD, but it's decent. I got the model that is HD capable when/if they ever upgrade internet speeds for my location. Roku might be a good option if you have trouble streaming because of low speeds.
Need Help with Patch Design

Our Scout Troop completed bicycle rides that covered the entire Chief Ladiga / Silver Comet bike trail. The trail is an old RailRoad bed of 100+ miles. Did not ride all in one day. Had to re-ride partial sections to get the required mileage for the badge.
No official patch exists. We would like to make our own. Here are some pictures that may help. We would like to have a picture of the chief, a picture of the comet (or train/comet) and some type of bicycle/rider blended together to make a really sharp-looking patch for the boys. Addition of Boy Scout emblem would be a huge plus. Feel free to run with it. You can make the patch square, oblong or round. Some of you folks are genius here and we would appreciate the expert help.
If you are into cycling, I highly recommend this trail. 100% paved and not too difficult. Starts in GA and ends up below Jax college in AL. It is beautiful.
