For sure, but at the time the org was operating under a “hey if we stay healthy maybe we can compete” mind set. They were never going to move JP unless blown away and who is to say that ever even comes into fruition.
Can’t trade for the sake of trading assets like that. But maybe a competent GM puts the org in a position to get the type of haul back.

Paredes is a very nice player. Just not much a skill set he simply doesn’t hit the ball hard enough. I could give a frick less how many pitches he sees per plate appearance to hit a weak fly ball you hope goes 320 into the Crawford Boxes.
If there is a surplus, why would you trade the better player? The asking price was probably deservedly high for Isaac but damn gotta hope he figures it out to get his value back up.
Looking back on it, really wonder if the Mets would have done Nimmo for Paredes straight up like they did Semien? You probably could have even gotten them to chip in some $ considering age and contract difference.

Well duh if he can pinch hit he can start at least he put him in in the likely highest leverage at bat of the game.
And of course Isaac has some value and is a nice player and will get going. Think he was just overvalued and they had an opportunity with some leverage to move off of him. Just never got the deal they wanted
