Not to nitpick, but we did get 2 out of 5…and it was the best two.

If I knew how to meme worth a shite, I would do the scene where Hans Gruber says: “We’ll be sitting on a beach…earning 20%.”
re: 2019 LSU Beat a Mediocre Auburn Team 23-20

They were better than mediocre, way better. They had some very good front seven guys on defense. Beat Oregon and Bama and A&M on the road, lost to UGA, LSU and UF, all tight games. A very good team.
Wyatt Bower-Ferris State

Lane should try to bottle lightning again. Ferris State just won another title with Wyatt Bower, a freshman, at the helm.
re: Realistically What is Your View of Kalen DeBoer?

He seems to be a really good coach. No one will be able to dominate like his predecessor did before him, and he will always live in that shadow.
When he was first hired, I posted on this board asking Bama fans (not trolling) whether they would be OK with being "human", in other words, winning 9 to 10 games per year, and maybe realistically competing for a title every three to four years. I got laughed off the board. But that is just reality.
Also, I did not see the vast changes that have occurred over the last two years, and I don't see that anyone will ever be Saban or Smart in the foreseeable future, including Smart himself.

I’m pretty sure they have two and the two teams that won them are now in the SEC. No current Big 12 team has on a title since 1984 (and that one’s a bit dodgy).
ETA: sorry forgot about Colorado 1990. Another dodgy one. But I can’t forget my boy Les on that staff!

With our defense, we would have a shot with an energized offense.

The best part of the Eli trip was when they were interviewing him after that game during the LSU v Arkansas broadcast and he’s blabbing about how they still have a chance and maybe Arky can pull it out and we score a long TD while he’s yammering.
Full circle from Bo Rein

I don’t know how I failed to realize this before, but Lane’s dad succeeded Bo Rein as NC State HC in 1980. And now his son takes his position here. Full circle and all that, baws!

It’s an untenable situation. Once everyone knows he’s leaving (and whoever’s going with him), those people cannot be allowed near the program. Not in this circumstance. Other situations lend themselves to coaches finishing their season, but this ain’t one of them.
BTW-we just went through this 4 years ago with Kelly whose ND squad was in the playoff. He had to go.
I will be really interested to see if Sumrall gets Tulane to the playoff and whether OM or Florida allow him to coach. All signs point to NO.

re: LSU coaching search back in 1999
Posted by Tigerpaul1969 on 11/22/25 at 9:33 am to S
As I recall, the LSU brass got the vote of confidence on Saban from Bill Polian. He thought Saban was a great defensive mind and would be very successful as a college head coach. And also recall, he had just led Mich State to wins over Michigan AND Ohio State. He was definitely NOT a scrub. Not one of the “top names” either. Which is what scares me about Kiffin. The only “big name” hire I can think of recently that translated into an actual title is Harbaugh (and that one is sketchy). Woodward did it twice in the last seven years and flamed out on both.

Looking at Sumrall's actual body of work

LET THE DOWNVOTES COMMENCE!!! TL;DR!!!
He is currently in his fourth year as a head coach. He spent two years at Troy and is in his second year at Tulane. His head coaching record at those two lower tier football schools is 40-11. But, even more impressive, look at 8 of those 11 losses:
TROY
2022: at Ole Miss;
at App State (a 6 point road loss to App State the week after they beat Texas A&M on the road)
2023: at Kansas State;
James Madison (a 2 point loss to a Curt Cignetti coached JMU)
TULANE
2024: Kansas State (7 point loss);
at Oklahoma (it was 24-19 in the fourth quarter);
Florida in the bowl game
2025: at Ole Miss
Oh, and this year, they beat TWO Power 5 schools, blowing out Northwestern (who has looked very competitive in the Big 10 this year) and Duke (who beat Clemson and has been more competitive than not in the ACC this year), and beat Memphis at Memphis (who beat Arkansas in Memphis this year)
I remember when his name was one of the first to pop up several people on here making fun because he beat Duke as though that were something to scoff at when he coaches at frickin Tulane.
I think he really could be the next Cignetti. But, we'll go out and hire Kiffin for $60 million for four years and be right where we are now in 4 years.

Steve Van Buren (I don't think this is particularly close if you are looking at an entire career)
I like to call Steve Van Buren Jim Brown before Jim Brown. He had that kind of career. He was the first running back in NFL history to rush for over 10 TDs in a season (12 game season). And he did it 3 times!
When he retired, he held the records for most rushes, most yards and most TDs in NFL history.
2x NFL champion (he was the best player on the only Eagles teams to win Super Bowls (back to back) for over 60 years)
7x All-Pro (including 5x First Team All-Pro)
4x Rushing Leader
4x TD leader
Lead the NFL in scoring 1945
NFL 1940's All Decade Team
NFL 75th Anniversary Team
NFL 100th Anniversary Team (this says it all)
Eagles Retired Jersey
First-team All-SEC in 1943 (he was used shittily at LSU and Bernie Moore admitted as such because he used him primarily as a blocker until his senior season)

I like the idea of someone off the radar (not a big name or job) who is hungry to prove himself. And young. Would approve.
