re: Top 5 worst bands

Posted by jpdal on 3/13/23 at 9:08 am to
This is actually easy for me. I like all the genres I've listed, but it always comes down to the singer I can't stand.
1. GREEN DAY
2. REM
3. DOORS
4. DEPECHE MODE
5. DURAN DURAN
Honorable mention: IRON MAIDEN

re: RIP Jeff Beck

Saw him in the mid 70's but memory is a little fuzzy.
It was in Tulane Stadium with ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Fleetwood Max and others.
Anyway, I remember it was raining and Jeff Beck kept trying to play through it, but finally announced he couldn't take it getting shocked any more so had to leave.
Anybody at that show and can fill in details?
I don't blame you. If I lived in BR I would be looking too. What a historic band.
For those of you that are fans of the greatness of this show, what is your favorite competition. I believe mine is the Rotating Surfboard of Death.
Who else thinks this may be the funniest thing ever on TV.
SHOW OF HANDS...NOW!
Thank you so much for this recommendation. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. This is pure greatness.
I've enjoyed about 3 episodes of Foyle's War on PBS.

Love me some Foyle's War. Very good story telling. I got through Season 5 and they just took it off Netflix. Where are you watching it?

Great topic.
I can think of 2 by the Greg Kihn Band, that also still hold up today.
The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)

and
Jeopardy

I didn't think much of "Dear Prudence" but now think it's one of their best.
This will be a great game for LSU fans. The same time Ingram is on the field, on the Cibolo Steele defense will be 2018 Tiger Commit Caden Sterns #2 at Safety.
Maybe this should be a topic onto itself. But why do people criticize musicians for being too old. These aren't athletes we are talking about here.
I'm not just talking about this case with The Eagles, but I hear it all the time, and I don't get it.
Since you mentioned underrated, there's no doubt in my mind it's Jerry Mercer from April Wine.
You don't believe me watch this:

Back in the mid 70's I went to see Jethro Tull. They had a bass player named Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond that wore a zebra suit and played a matching zerbra bass. Not only was he a good player, but he jumped around the stage like no other.
Anyway, here's a video if you guys want to watch him. He doesn't show up until almost 3 minutes in though.
Hope you enjoy.

Gotham.
Never thought much of it when I first saw it advertised, but Season 1 is now on Netflix. So we jumped in and haven't been disappointed. Much better than I thought it would be. Very entertaining.

Louisiana Cajun Zydeco Festival

I will be in NO this weekend and noticed this was going on for the ninth year. Anyone ever been to this and if so, your thoughts. A bad sign is that it's free. But it has some good Cajun bands.
After I heard "30 Days in the Hole" Humble Pie's "Smokin" became my first album ever.
Nothing to argue with on "most" names you all have given. I would just like to throw in Lou Gramm. Whether you are a Foreigner fan or not, outstanding voice.
The soundtrack to the movie Dazed and Confused is the music from my high school years. One of the reasons I love that movie, among other reasons.

Get Out of Denver is one of those songs you can't help but tap your foot to.
REM - With a different singer I could maybe take them, but Stipe is fingernails on chalkboard
Pearl Jam - See REM
Doors - See Pearl Jam and REM

Nirvana - Something in the Way

Started this over the weekend. Good stuff. Very good acting, and clever dialogue.
You guys think Titus Welliver will get a best actor nod for this?
He's good in everything but exceptional in this. Also Annie Wersching (Renee Walker from 24) looking good these days.

You guys have named some good ones.
Just to be different what about the ending of Physical Graffiti.
Black Country Woman - Slight struggle until Bonzo comes in. But once he does!
Sick Again - Once again Bonzo does some crazy sh**.

I have to agree with Otis Redding.
See if I can convince some of you:

Fandango 1975, City Park Stadium in New Orleans. ZZ Top was headline (their tour) with Aerosmith, Jeff Beck and Fleetwood Mac. Rained like crazy but was fun experience, awesome music and special scene.

I was at this show. What a blast. I remember Jeff Beck trying to play through the rain but said he kept getting shocked.

re: Anyone familiar with Budgie.

No worries.
I'm from the 70's generations and was listening to Budgie back then. I just think their music still holds up today, and trying to get the word out on it.

re: Anyone familiar with Budgie.

This post is about Budgie, not about me. Why do you care how old I am? None of that matters.

Even though I've been to many concerts in my many years, I still say it was Grand Funk Railroad on the We're An American Band tour in Lake Charles. The place was insane, and the front page of the American Press had a picture of the floor of the Civic Center, totally destroyed. The olds were in shock.
