Of course it’s not always the case. Like in high leverage situations. I was making a point that on punts where its nearly impossible to spot the ball exactly where it crosses out of bounds, they tend to put the ball on a 5 yard marker for ease of spotting.
They do it on 1st and 2nd downs too (not 5 yard markers but the nearest yard). It’s not the game of inches you think it is. If it really was they’d try to be more accurate. So much for my dumb post huh.

If you watch where officials in college spot the ball relative to where the runner actually went down you would agree. “Game of inches” doesn’t mean much apparently. Maybe pay attention to details before posting.

They don’t pinpoint shite. Place the ball on the nearest 5 yard marker to move the game along and limit measurements. And that’s not just on punts.
