If at all possible put him on a vehicle that doesn't require full coverage. Just liability and uninsured motorist coverage.... Comprehensive coverage isn't too bad but collision coverage are killers.
I wrote car insurance for 40 years in Tennessee until I retired 10 years ago... so I'm not familiar with other states...But adding teenage drivers can be a shock no matter what state you live in. I would have clients for years but when their little Johnny or Suzy started driving, many would shop around to save some bucks...I'd lose some but I would gain some too.
Best advise....Tell them to get a job and pay for most or all. Teaches responsibility.
