Scott’s Kitchen right by the airport is a hidden gem and solid, some of the best BBQ I’ve had in KC, certainly better than Q39. Very convenient to stop by and grab on the way to or from the airport. Their BBQ tacos are fire.
Millennial Park closed?
Posted by waampwamp on 5/11/23 at 12:28 pm
What’s the deal or story on Millennial Park on Florida?
It got a lot of publicity when it started up with all the converted shipping containers and different food concepts on site, but I drove by it today and looks like nobody has been there or maintained the property in months.

The ones I had last spring were great, they must have changed something. Good to know. Southerns are solid, had them last time they came to Tin Roof.
Chow Yum Phat is boiling their Vietnamese style crawfish today according to their Instagram. They’re different but very good.
Food Instas

What are some must follow food Instagram accounts? Local to BR and even just generally.
Doesn’t have to be people who cook and post their recipes, I know a lot that I’ve seen and follow review restaurants and post pics of food, do interviews with chefs, etc.

Why is that a terrible idea? If you go to these places you recognize their names and can send them money if you want.
Support our service industry workers
Posted by waampwamp on 3/21/20 at 7:31 pm
There’s a website now called www.tipitforward.co with a listing of people who work in the BR service industry (bartenders, waiters, cooks, etc.). It has their Venmo information so people can send them tips while so many of them are out of work or working on reduced schedules and tips.
Are there any snowball stands still open in BR this time of year?
Bandito Fest

Anyone out at Bandito Fest in BR today? How’s the food scene?
Jeff did a great job with his product. When I saw he was getting into business with the former owner of Smokin Aces, I knew it was only a matter of time.
Brunch spots in NOLA
Posted by waampwamp on 3/31/19 at 8:58 am
Heading down from BR to NOLA today for a show and wanted to leave early so we could grab brunch in the city. Any recommendations or go-to spots?
Baton Rouge Crawfish

Looking to do an impromptu boil today. Any suggestions on some gems here in BR with good prices on live crawfish? TIA!
Rue Orleans closed already (or never opened)?
Posted by waampwamp on 8/2/15 at 2:11 pm
Anyone know the status of Rue Orleans on College, in the Hobby Lobby shopping area? It's the old Casa Maria.
Went by there today and doors were locked, no tables or anything inside. Looks like it hasn't been open for a while. I thought I remembered reading an article though that said it was opening in April-May.

Best FOOD Happy Hour in BR

Best happy hour for food in BR - thoughts? Suggestions?
Surprisingly enough, Duvic's is one of my go-to spots for brunch. Great food and awesome burgers too if you're in the mood.

I haven't had them at Sammy's this season, but I've talked to a few people who have.
I've got some friends in from out of town and don't feel like dealing with the crowd if there's another place that has them and they are decent size/quality.

Has anyone seen boiled crawfish at restaurants in BR yet, outside of Sammy's?
BR Restaurant Week Winners/Losers
Posted by waampwamp on 1/18/14 at 7:32 pm
For anyone who has gone out for BR Restaurant Week this week, what was your experience like? In past years some places have gone all out, and some places just recycle portions of their menu that just aren't very good.
We did the new Portico on Perkins where Marcello's used to be earlier in the week, and it was very underwhelming. Service was awful, they brought our entire table's checks before the dessert course ever arrived, and our blueberry bread pudding was just blueberry bread - no sauce/pudding. We should have taken the hint by the checks coming out first and bolted before dessert ever arrived.
Thinking about Beausoleil, Fleming's, or Portabello's tonight... hopefully one of them impresses a bit more than Portico.

Wife and I are looking to grab a nice dessert (no dinner) in BR before a movie tonight.
Any recommendations? TIA!

Same here. The staff couldn't have been any friendlier and food was the bomb. Also pretty certain everything on the menu had a price next to it, including burritos and quesadillas.
Podnuh's. One of the only reasons to go there, but it's definitely a reason.

Just saying I disagree with your opinion, and others seem to as well.
Good question. Seems like there are around 15-20 in BR, but also depends on what you call a "food truck" (if that includes the lunch trailers that are mostly downtown during the week).
I think NOLA would benefit from some more quick-service options pumping out quality food like TL and La Cocinita do. I don't think it could handle hundreds more... maybe another dozen or two.

The Office Series Finale
Posted by waampwamp on 5/12/13 at 3:16 pm
Airs this Thursday night. Kind of sad to see it come to an end, but can't wait for the finale. The show has also really declined in quality the past couple of seasons, so it's probably time.
Has anyone heard if Michael/Steve Carrell is going to make an appearance?

Would have to disagree with you on both taco de paco and curbside. And both seem to be doing fine without your support.
But that's the great thing about capitalism and consumer choice right? Take note, New Orleans.

If anything, food trucks should RAISE your expectations of what to expect from all restaurants. If these guys can push this kind of food out from a kitchen roughly half the size of the inside of a UPS truck, what excuse do brick and mortar restaurants have for not being able to do the same or better?
Competition is a good thing, protectionism is not. Letting food trucks into the CBD/French Quarter will encourage everyone to step their game up, and the consumers are the ones who benefit.

Hit Pullin Pork up on FB. Solid food, they do a quality job... some of the best BBQ in the city IMO.
