I have read the book and yes, you are way off.
That being said, I liked the Sandler movie for what it was. I also liked Moon which is similar.
So far my impressions from the trailers (which they've shown too much of IMO) I think the movie is going to nail it. I sure hope I'm right. But even if it doesn't, the read the book. It's outstanding.

I honestly don't think she picked the movie to intentionally kick me in the balls. She was never cruel or spiteful. And she's never been very aware of current events like movies and TV shows. She's a workaholic with no real contact with the outside world.
But yeah, it was very soon after when I insisted she move out. It was time to rip the bandaid off and power through the pain.

This movie came out when my first wife and I were going through a divorce. I was against the split and wanted to stay true to my vows and work it out.
Her mind was made up. It was a very sad and stressful time. The plan was for me to keep the house and her to move into an apartment close to her office. But she kept dragging her feet. Things were super tense.
So she suggested we go see a movie, a comedy to lighten the mood. She picked The Break Up.
So I sat there in the dark theater watching this shite unfold, next to the woman who was leaving me and ripping my world to pieces. I was furious. I should have walked out. But I didn't. When it was over she asked me if I liked the movie and I said "that was salt in an open wound."
frick that movie.

I'm independent. I will always vote for the best candidate for me. That just happens to mean, I've never voted for a democrat in my life and don't see myself doing so. Thus, all my votes have been republican by default.
This is where I am. My first vote was in 1984 for the great Ronaldus Maximus. The only time I didn't vote for a republican was when I voted for Ross Perot. No way in hell I'd vote for a democrat.
But until the feckless Rs stop the spending and foreign aid money laundering and grifting, I'll not donate a dime or let them count me in their numbers.

The ONLY people who have expressed outrage over it WERE conservatives (ie. Republicans).
