re: Do you ever look out the window and see the moon and think how weird all of this is?

The moon, with very little gravity, can tug on the earths oceans and create tides. I still don't get how that's possible, with how small and far away it is.
Basically, this brief explanation which isn't broadly known. Local tidal predictions in time and amplitude for any arbitrary point on Earth are complex, but the math well known and accurate, absent wind related forcing on any given day, tidal surges an example.
You are correct that gravity is a weak force, a very interesting subject outside of Newtonian, classical physics. We don't exactly know how it works.
The DEA (CIA?) kept a small plane(s) in the air 24/7 over Medellin with sophisticated cellular tracking technology for the day listening for his phone. He made a call to his son just a bit longer than 2 minutes, the time needed to triangulate his position, location established game over.

I believe Rouses privately held keeps increasing their prices a few points every couple of weeks to see where people quit buying. They recently bought Langenstein’s and will frick that up.
Dorignac’s is the closest modern equivalent to Schwegman’s, honey how’s ya doing today baby. Good store.
HEB is in a whole other class the best I’ve ever seen.

"Guerrilla Groups" were kidnapping American expat O&G executives in the late 70's into the 80's, notably Texaco's who eventually IIRC pulled out of Columbia. Drug related? Don't know, it was frequently in the news.

If with Verizon check that too, they were hacked and your account info, login credentials, sss # etc is floating around the dark web being used for nefarious purposes. I had to freeze my Amex account used to pay Verizon.
Happy New Year.

Good one.
Talking with Docs, two Canadian orthopedic surgeons who cover a wide variety of general medical issues, lighthearted and humorously, often bringing in doctors outside their specialty for expert advice.
Shawn Ryan, former Navy Seal and CIA contractor with an interesting history who interviews interesting guests, many outside his background.
Project Farm, reviews of home repair, auto and other tools and products. The way he approaches testing leads me to think he's a mechanical engineer. My go to before buying that stuff.
Engineering Explained, auto engineering, the recent video here on his Lucid Air EV disappointment. Knows his subject matter.
Zeihan on Geopolitics, the view from 30,000 feet frequently controversial. A "global energy, demographic and security expert." Generally, short 5 minute or so videos that get straight to the point. Unique speaking style, makes you think about your assumptions.

I’m a huge YouTube documentary watcher. And it’s taking over all the original channels content. Usually with some fake accent and a lame video montage of pictures that don’t even pertain the the subject. A cheater way to get clicks and free money for creators that do little work.
Same here. When the artificial voice and unrelated photos kick in, recently created with just a few thousand subscribers, I move on.
It's infringing on legitimate sites that put in the effort to produce informative content. They'll even start with a known related site's intro photo to seem authentic.
YouTube should ban these assholes AI accounts.

Release the hospital's medical report and end speculation.
Pretty simple and an important enough issue to obtain the Agent's consent to negate HIPAA considerations.

re: Dutch and Singapore firms beat US majors to first deals for Venezuelan oil
Posted by Mr Breeze on 1/12/26 at 9:55 am to ragincajun03
Exxon wrote off $4 billion of their Sakhalin investment due to Russian sanctions from their Ukrainian adventure, and subsequent expropriation by the Russian government.
Maduro cronies controlling the Venezuela government remain in power, with the President's declaration that the U.S. government runs Venezuela yet to be defined in terms of security guarantees for both capital and personnel of U.S. O&G companies inside Venezuela.
Can't say I blame Exxon's CEO for his reluctance towards Venezuela, where they've also been burned before by that government's confiscation of Exxon's assets in country.
The Dutch and Singapore initiatives are simply commodity trading activities, not in country development obligations.

Air Pod Pro 3’s and IPads Mini’s for my two 8th grade granddaughters.
Wouldn’t spend that much on myself for those, but it’s what they wanted and annoys their older brothers who forgot about all the expensive junk electronic toys they got when younger.

This seems like a good enough thread to remind people that a study came out several years back now that found more than 40,000 bridges in the US are structurally deficient.
IIRC, that was from the American Society of Civil Engineers, backed up with some engineering inspection reports, including pile scouring at natural bottom, 3D imaged using sonar systems.
The worst example I saw was I-10 over the Jourdan River near Diamond Head. Oakland Bay Bridge was another severely degraded one. I wasn't brave enough to see if there was any data on the I-10 bridge at Lake Charles.
Just the inspection cost for all of these is enormous, repair expense orders of magnitude greater. It was a hot topic at the time, since then ignored by State and Federal authorities.

TED ED offers a wide range of topics of your interest to investigate. There is another, subscription based general education site I’ll post when I find it. I’ve purchased their DVD’s long ago.
Honestly, buy a sub to YouTube Premium and search for your topic. Best money I’ve spent on subs to eliminate the annoying ads. Avoid the AI generated videos which have become ubiquitous, seek out the real, human experts.
I think it was Issac Azimov the science fiction writer who said “ education is never finished” or in other words, remaining curious and learning throughout life is a good habit to cultivate. For me lately it’s been particle physics leading to quantum mechanics, something not emphasized when I was in college decades ago.
Will I ever fully understand it? Not at all, but I would like to know the general principles.

Older Land Cruisers were great hunting and fishing trucks and bulletproof, although they liked gas stations quit a bit.

Why do you believe Louisiana is the second worst state for insurance? Do you have personall knowledge or just parroting what you have heard others say? Any personal anecdotal evidence?
PI attorney advertisements incessantly on TV and Radio along with highways polluted with endless billboards?
I get that insurance companies advertise too.
But it must be a very lucrative business when Louisiana's exclusively PI legal firms can afford to advertise at the high frequency and cost they incur.
Only one brain cell needed to know who is paying for that.
You can add high $$$$ political contributions buying our politicians legal protection to the mix as well.
Remember when Tort Reform passed to fix our outrageously high auto insurance rates? With the promise it would work?
In 2025 we won again, #1 in the nation for the highest auto insurance rates.
Not mad at all, am enjoying our new players and coaches doing well and getting playoff experience.
re: Anyone ever heard the “Titanic was sunk on purpose” theory?
Posted by Mr Breeze on 1/8/26 at 7:52 pm to theunknownknight
Titantic research with deep dive manned vehicles like Alvin and Mir, plus Rov video and detailed multi beam high resolution sonar surveys, identified longitudinal hull breach scars below the water line that flooded what where thought to be water tight components.
The research is publicly available with a Google search, including the multi beam sonar mosaic which is remarkably impressive.
Metal eating bacteria and salt water corrosion will destroy Titanic's remnants by 2040. Ultimately, Titanic will disappear, turning into a dispersed cloud of rust particles on the ocean floor, a natural end for sunken metal ships. The bronze propellors will survive.

As an introduction to the new guidelines, Kennedy and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins called for a "dramatic reduction" in the consumption of "highly processed foods laden with refined carbohydrates, added sugars, excess sodium, unhealthy fats, and chemical additives."
Look at photos or videos of people in a crowd during the 50’s thru 70’s and there are very few truly obese people.
Something changed, butter has been studied and proven healthier than margarine, high fructose corn syrup and processed food to extend shelf life and sweetness is a killer. Among other things.
I overheard an elderly black lady tell her grandson in Rouses who was holding and begging for high sugar cereal, “we don’t eat anything out of a box.”
Made me think of how wise this lady was instilling good food consumption habits. My guess is a good home cook. Nothing beats starting with fresh ingredients.
The new guidelines are fine, moderation is the key along with regular weekly exercise that you enjoy.
