The only needle movers would be Mikey Ryan, who could be playing 2B
I don't know. I haven't checked in a few weeks, but he was having a pretty bad defensive season in the ACC.

come home to CPM returning to Alex Box, take out USC 3-0,
You're going to want to sit down when I tell you this...

I know he’s well respected but the LSU guys isn’t look like the A&M guys this past weekend

I mean they just gave guys with different body types.

Stanfield isn't going to add 30 pounds. Milam isn't going to grow 6 inches. Curiel and Brown will always be lean (though they did bulk up some this off season). You're not going to transform 22 year old Brayden Simpson or Seth Dardar in an off season.

We just don't have a Jared Jones or Ethan Frey body on this team outside of Yamin. People wouldn't be saying the same thing if Quentin Young, Brady Ebel, or Jaden Fauske made it to campus.

That one was a little more telegraphed because he just started bunting a lot more and kept moving down the line up 1 spot every other game.
Yeah when the guy who usually hits 2nd in the order gets moved down to 8th and bunting with 2 outs, something is up
Yeah, Larson also gets the benefit of being a situational platoon hitter that is always rested and pretty much exclusively put in advantageous positions. Pinch hitting against a RHP, being pulled when a LHP comes into the game, getting a few days off, playing 6 innings in a game because he can’t play defense.

It’s pretty dumb to compare his numbers to someone who plays every day, in conference.

Jay ain't firing his guys outright. May see a few quietly move on to other schools.
oh yeah? Who’s going to be pushed out?

Because it won’t be Wanaka, Jordan, or Yeskie. Don’t see Simpson or Turk being pushed out.

So who’s “quietly” going to leave? Ben Nippolt?

If any of the staff leaves, it will either to be head coaches or elevated roles like Simpson at UGA.
quote:

Larson is a solid hitter but with no power and not even being an every day player we really arent missing him much.
he (like Yorke) is another example of a guy being a good hitter but having a terrible swing path for power.

He’s got the strength and size to hit 15+ HR, but his swing doesn’t lend itself to power unless it’s a breaking ball low and in.

We now also have an explanation on all the "Jake Brown looks lost right now" comments. Not that they were wrong to point it out by any means. But this is a reason that would have been happening.
similar to Dickonson’s post season struggles following game 1 of the regional.

None of this is rocket science. I’ve already stated all these points
well, no.

In an effort to argue against the Bide/Serna combo, and using Jay’s affinity for LHH, you said I was an idiot for suggesting that our middle infielders could hit from the left side.

Clearly this is some form of rocket science for you.
quote:

“they will 100% both be in the lineup everyday next year”….
the entire point of my somewhat hyperbolic post was that these two players can (and likely will) be every day starters, even if they’re both on the team. They do not have to transfer to do that. In fact, it would be more beneficial to both of them long term to go that route.

Jesus Christ. Why was that so difficult to understand.
quote:

You think JJ is about to put left handlers at SS And/or 2nd?
you are aware that when Jay Johnson refers to a left handed position player, he’s referring to their bat, right?

And you are aware that left handed hitters can throw right handed, right? Like I don’t know this season when a right handed pitcher is starting and both of our middle infielders hit from the left side of the plate? Or when either of the backup freshman come into hit, and hit from the left side?
Also, Jay said 3 weeks was best case scenario.

Here is what he said:
quote:

“Theres nothing structurally wrong, but there is some swelling that we need to get down,” said LSU head coach Jay Johnson.

“So, the only way to do that is to give him some time which is about probably a week to 10 days. And then, to be responsible with his returns to throwing, a minimum of a week to 10 days. I kind up just added those two up, and it’s probably about three weeks from now is probably bets case scenario.”

That was a month ago. They said he is having surgery to repair "tissue" in the arm, which is not a structural injury.

I'd be welling to bet that after this weekend, Jay said there was no point in rushing him back this season.

The whistle for Denver through the first two games has been ridiculous.

As someone who bets on Denver in pretty much every post season game, I think it's been perfectly adequate.

So the Hawks got 1 positive asset, the Wizards got none, and the Pelicans got 2?

Seems like a win for the pels.

I’m not really disagreeing with you
I know, I was just more thoroughly explaining my point, especially after seeing some of these replies.
quote:

I just hesitate to say that about a group of guys that, as we discussed earlier today, have similar numbers to Ma’Kail Hilliard and Ty Floyd in 2022.
IMO, the difference here is all of these guys have shown to be better (on multiple occassions) than Floyd had ever shown in his career at that point. Evans did it on the biggest stage, and Schmidt looks like a 1.1 guy through 4 innings half the time.

I think Hilliard is more of an outlier in general in terms of pitching style. These guys all have big league potential. Hilliard was always going to top out in college, but his style allowed him some success on this stage. Just not sustainable.
quote:

I mean just look at this year. I can count 5 pitchers that have regressed from last year to this year.

The only one to me that is truly unexplainable is Williams.

Evans - thrust him into a Friday night spot, and like I said, never really caught any breaks. Like every single base runner seemed to matter so much to him, when we saw him work his way out of bases loaded jams last year.

Rizy - I think he would have been successful had the team been successful, when it mattered. Similar to Shores/Mayers. Work through the kinks all year and kick it in late in the season. Maybe not. Maybe he's just a lost cause. I choose to believe he is a Yeskie project and it will click at some point.

Cowan - Defense has really let him down this year and inflated his ERA.

Noot - I think we unfortunately got his best last year. Some guys don't recover from injury well, and I think he was just a casualty of that.

Again, I think the Yeskie MO is letting them find themselves in season, and turning it on late. This team just couldn't afford that. Maybe it's a strategy we can't use anymore with the lack of the team building aspect of the sport and need to reevaluate how we coach our pitchers. Maybe it was a one off. I think we'll find out next year.

I am generally an optimist, so I could just be way off and have it all wrong. It's just hard for me to forget how good some of these guys have been during their time here. It's not like I'm talking about guys that have had one good outing in three years or something. See what I'm saying?
quote:

As soon as it happened he pointed to his elbow. Anyone that bought Johnson’s BS about a Tricep is an Idiot!

Has there been anything to disprove it being a tricep injury?

If it was an elbow injury, requiring Tommy John, he wouldn't be back next year. He'd be back in 2028.

Just because it's season ending, doesn't mean (1) that it had to be; or (2) that it isn't a tricep.
quote:

one of the 2 will be behind the plate, and in the lineup, everyday.
Yes. I know. I said that multiple times.
quote:

If the other team is starting a lefty, sure, whoever is not behind the plate will DH. However, against a righty, I am not so sure.
I can tell you with about 95% certainty, Serna/Bide will be DHing if they're not catching.
quote:

JJ will want another left handed bat in the lineup, and that is not bide or Serna.
And we have to replace RF, CF, LF, SS, 2B. At least. There is plenty room for more LHH in the lineup that doesn't take out a middle of the order power bat.

It is FAR more probable than not that both Bide and Serna are in the lineup for 90%+ of games next season.

I'm just getting caught up and I'm beside myself

These people think (1) Casan Evans will accept transitioning to the bullpen in his money year; (2) William Schmidt can go get 6 in the midweek; (3) No one will get better; and (4) Top flight arms across the country are going to flock here to compete with 3 returning weekend starters.

It's insane.

Go find Deven Sheerin (tall ask, I know). Go find Nate Ackenhausen. Go find Riley Cooper and Eric Reyzelman. Supplement your staff with those guys, and use the rest of the $$$ on position players.

Between the returning staff and the risk guys, you will get enough capable arms to compete for a national title. We have seen it twice before.
quote:

Him Evans and Schmidt are a good 3, 4, and 5

Just need 2 big guns
You people are insane.

Evans and Schmidt are likely first round picks. You don't know anything about the sport if you think they are Sunday/Midweek guys.
quote:

When should I start laughing?
Are you saying a weekend rotation of Schmidt/Evans/Moore would not be one of the best in the country, on paper, heading into the season?

UF loses Peterson but brings back King who is likely the best pitcher in the country next year.

OM likely replaces their entire rotation. 2/3 is best case scenario for them.

Arkansas loses their entire rotation. State loses their #1 guy, and better hope their #2 and #2 make big jumps. Texas loses 2/3. UCLA loses all three of their starters. Tenn is replacing 2/3.

Find me, on paper, a better weekend rotation than 2027 LSU.

Portal can change things, but there likely isn't a rotation I would trade ours for outside of MAYBE UF (because of the Bonafide #1) and Auburn.

quote:

I appreciate the confidence. I’ve just had way too many bad takes about this team to be making bold claims like that lol

I mean I just think Schmidt/Evans/Moore will be extremely tough to beat on paper.

Schmidt took a massive leap year 1 to year 2. Evans is inconsistent on Fridays but has as much talent as anyone in the country. Moore is the perfect Sunday guy who was throwing like a Friday guy.

I don't think there would be a team in the country happier with their weekend rotation than that.
