Man successfully registers a potato as a suppressor... Serial #: TATE001

“This seems to be what the ATF has run with historically,” he said. “Anything you could put on the end of the device that could, even if it’s only a single time, suppress the noise of a gunshot, they consider that an NFA item. It’s very similar to how you get the goofy historical samples of a rubber band or a shoelace being considered a machine gun, right?”
He reasoned that if he could be arrested for having an unregistered potato silencer, then it must be possible to register one as well.
“There was definitely some precedent to it. And, you know, and the argument is, if you can arrest me for possessing a potato suppressor, and I’m constitutionally allowed to have a potato suppressor if I go through the process, then I should constitutionally be allowed to register a potato.”

love 'em both, but Ludwig Göransson did an excellent job for Oppenheimer.

based on some of the comments in the r/NFA thread, Form 1s are about 7-14 days and Form 4s are about 8 days.

temu mk12
The itch for that one hasn’t began yet. Too many variants. I have considered MK12 Mod1 with the Knights long FF RAS quad rail. But the PRI variants are pretty bad arse, too. Especially the one with the ACE SOCOM stock (MOD H?).

Look how sexy this looks for early 1990s tech…

Is there any logic to getting 1 top notch can for use across 30 cal, 5.56, .270, 6.5? I have all of those rifles. My thought was cheap can for cheap AR, but if I can use it everywhere...
I started out with that logic, but quickly started looking into other options and specific builds.
- First suppressor was an Aero Precision Lahar-30
- A “Budget Badger” got me into Polonium-30
- Military clones got me into a Surefire RC2 for my MK18 Block II. It’s probably going to get me into a Knights NT4 M4QD for my MK18 Mod0 build.
- Gary Gordon Delta Carbine… Allen Engineering M4-Delta suppressor.
- My PSA JAKL has handcuffed me into getting a Dead Air can at some point.

MAP pricing =/= MSRP pricing
MAP = minimum advertised price (there's a maximum price as well... i think).
i'm willing to bet $1299 is the minimum price a vendor can advertise as. some places can get around the MAP price displaying "Add to Cart for Best Price" on the item listing.

I’ve never used Silencer Shop.
But I did just find out they charge $50 to Form 1 something. So there’s that.
https://www.silencershop.com/atf-form-1-service.html
I’m sure they still pass in the cost of processing a Form 4 to someone in the cost of their suppressors. You just don’t see it.
ETA: They’re prices are probably MAP + $50 I’d bet.

I don’t recall paying an extra $50 for any of mine?
r/NFA is telling me the $50 is the ATF processing fee they charge for doing the paperwork for you. :dunno:
Google says:
Silencer Shop itself doesn't charge for the ATF paperwork processing; they offer it as part of their service, but the independent dealers might charge fees for using their kiosks or for NFA transfer/processing, often around $40-$50 for the kiosk and potentially more for form processing/transfer, though post-2026, the $200 tax stamp is gone. Fees vary by dealer, so check with your specific local shop.
