If Liam Coen had the leverage to remove an entrenched GM last cycle, sure Harbaugh could easily as well

Logistically I’m not sure how that would work since ole Miss would need to submit the paperwork/Lacy needs to tell them his intention ahead of time
quote:

know we heard he was promised a large budget per year, but I’ve wondered if Year 1 may have been an open check book to get established

More than anything I think we’re seeing the difference in having a staff that doesn’t run for the hills on battling against other programs for someone or get pissy when a player comes back with a higher price tag than first discussed after seeing their value
quote:

Ole miss "insiders" are convinced it's Kiffin tampering and "going all in on trying to poach as many players as they can right before the portal closes to send everything into chaos."

Me to ole miss

I’m old enough to remember the NFL banning a few players from going to a fantasy football convention because it was located at a casino
Who amongst us hasn’t done this with coaching jobs in NCAA25
Seems like he could just go “okay I’m ready to take my job back” after a year and make them make a move without having to trade him

Marcus freeman rumors going to spring back up for both those gigs I imagine

Probably the best gig in football with the ownership structure and history of coaches. 3 head coaches in 56 years

He’s so much better than Romo.

Been great to see people seeing the truth about Romo. I was on an island about him as an announcer in his second year when people thought he was a god in the booth with his “oooo Jim idk about this!” Schtick

He used his advanced knowledge of that current day NFL to “predict” plays, but the NFL changes so much year to year he never kept up and quickly got stale and out of touch with NFL offenses. He was smart to leverage play his way into a huge payday when he did. CBS is probably scheming a way to trade him for Greg Olsen right now

He had interviews lined up for pretty much all the open jobs that cycle, the pats were just an obvious pull for him already and they moved very quick and put money on the table to get him quickly once they moved on from Mayo

Now, teams in the previous cycle who didn’t give him a call are the ones that should be kicking themselves. But I think he was always going to be picky about his next job and you were going to have to have a solid ownership in place and give him control of the FO to hire him and either assets or an established /rising QB. Pats coincidentally had all of those things at the right time, and nearly blew it by going with Mayo the previous season.

He’s still very raw on how he was screwed in Tennessee from owner/front office dysfunction. He wouldn’t have gone somewhere he couldn’t call the shots every level he wanted to

New England getting a favorable call in a playoff game? I've never seen that one before.

I mean chargers should’ve already been punting on that 3rd and short frickery
It also happened last year, with Lamar winning all pro and Allen winning MVP

Seems like the kind of guy that would rather stay at Indiana and stick it to all the schools that passed him over.

Who passed him over exactly? He was a career low level assistant until he took a really low level job and worked his way up. Took a long route but not like he was interviewing for big time gigs and getting told no his whole career

Idk why you are taking this so personally.

Minority stake owner changes doesn’t really mean anything. Outside of an outlier like Brady, those guys don’t affect anything operationally. And a primary owners lifespan is much longer than any roster or front office specific issues, I simply don’t see how you can call that more temporary than an owner of a team, which in a lot of cases lasts decades.

quote:

But since you want to be a smartass about it, what do you think is the least permanent factor that inherently makes a job good or bad? Location? With a whopping 3 teams changing in the last 25 years? Fanbase, which basically never changes?

The least permanent factor would be things like roster and salary cap issues, which can change within a season or 3 with the right football people in charge and a non meddling/impatient owner.

Location and fanbase are not major factors to a job in terms of football. This isn’t OG college football where you need to recruit players based on team prestige or fanbase excitement. Personally one place may be more appealing to others and that preference is wildly dependent on each candidate and background, but I’m talking about football aspects here.

quote:

Umm yea that’s the point.

A new owner being similar incompetent, means it’s a more permanent factor of being an issue. Having a good or non meddling owner is a huge asset to any open job, as previously argued by someone else- likely the most important factor in determining short and long term success outside of having a young elite QB in place

It’s also the least permanent factor though

Umm how? Very slim odds to see an owner change outside of him dying of old age. And complete crapshoot that whoever takes it over is any more competent
