It still will be cheaper to leave him on your policy mainly for multi car discount.. on his own fricking yikes.
I’m an Independent Insurance Agent btw.
My daughter started driving a couple years ago and the jump was absurd. Basically if he graduates and goes to work then switch it. If not leave it until he’s 25. Making him pay his share of course. Kids don’t get a break until 25 years of age.

For one, the only time I put a hat on my head is while I’m playing golf. And not one of the 20+ golf hats I’ve bought in the last few years have been a flat bill. Flat bills look absolutely ridiculous

First wife I was 21-23 when my first two were born. We were way too young, she's psycho, I wasn't nearly mature enough.... Don't recommend
Current wife we had our two at 27 & 32.
Having experience in this. Definitely in the very late 20's - 30's is certainly more ideal.
Im 45 now and do have a couple of friends that are just now starting. Personally frick all that. Past 40 I just can't imagine having a newborn... Granted I'm way more stable financially, but I also don't want to be at near retirement age when they're leaving the house. Just me
