Who made the bucket with under a minute left to sink Texas? Who made the buzzer-beating shots to force OT against Stanford and Oklahoma last year? MK. A number of times she’s made the clutch FTs to put the game away. Who does Mulkey trust and give the ball to at the end of games and quarters? MK These are facts. Where are your Flaujae facts?

Also, in the first SC game Flaujae not only missed the free throws but a three-pointer that could have either tied or won the game with 7 seconds left.

Flaujae meant an incredible amount to the program, and I’ve always liked her a lot. But was almost always disappointed with her inability to hit the clutch shots down the stretch in the biggest games.

I knew this post would be unpopular because we all love Flaujae so much, but I feel my stance is backed by the facts.
I watched every minute of every game. I like Flaujae and I’ve been a big fan for 4 years. She’s been terrific. But if you look at it objectively you’d have to admit that she choked at the most critical moments of the biggest games. Give me a game against a top team in her career where she made a critical game-deciding bucket in the last 20 seconds. I totally agree- she’s the one who kept LSU in the game against SC (the first time)- but she also choked at the end. She also made the defensive blunder at the end of the Duke game to end the season. LSU needs better clutch play from captains to win a title.
Look at the history of big games and how MK stepped up big with free throws and clutch shots at game’s end throughout her career. My post above is specifically about the end of close games. Clutch players can have a bad game or a bad half but they deliver at the most critical moments, ie. they can handle the pressure. Conversely, another player can do great all the way up to the most critical moment and then choke at the end.
SC has had a better team every year until this year- even 2023 when LSU won the title. LSU was fortunate that SC ran into a red-hot Caitlin Clark and that Iowa had little left for LSU two days later. Same thing happened in reverse this year- SC blew their wad on UConn and had much less in the tank for UCLA.

This year we had better depth but they had us 3-2 in starters. Raven at PG, Joyce at PF, and Okot at C were better. Plus their starters were more experienced.

Even then I think LSU had the better overall team with one exception- Flau’jae. As much as I love her she was a huge choke artist in the big game. SC was in her head throughout her career- not in everyone else’s. You put MK at the line at game’s end and LSU wins. MK has consistently hit the big pressure shot- not Flaujae, who always wilted under pressure at the end of games.

Take away all the hype and rap and flash and swag and personality- all of which we love about Flaujae- and you have a girl who’s not very confident at the most critical moments of the biggest games against the toughest competition. We always referred to these as front runners. But to be known as a champion- to beat the championship-level opponents under the greatest pressure- you have to be able to come through with the game on the line.

Flaujae was a great player who was spectacular to watch- but she didn’t have “it”- the clutch gene when LSU needed it most. MK has it. Fulwiley has it. Even Jada Richard had it. But Flaujae tended to disappear with the game on the line. Maybe she’ll perform differently in the pros. I’m excited about this next team being MK’s team and Lay’s team.

Flaujae consistently got all the hype for LSU before the big games, but I think that was more based on her larger-than-life persona than her actual production in big games. MK and Lay will deservedly get their pub this next year.

LSU is looking internationally too right now and in contact with a girl from Spain

She looks good. What are LSU's chances?
O'Neal, even at 6-4, seems to be more of a finesse player with a slender build. Very good, though. We do need a physical presence. So I say couple her with a physical big, or get two physical bigs.
Knox was the best on the team last year at making contested shots at the rim, even though she's just 6-2.
Need bigs who can make contested shots in traffic underneath. Haven't had those since Reese and Morrow. But it took Reese three tries because she always missed the first two putbacks, or they were blocked because her release point was too low. Morrow was just at least 2-3 inches shorter than everyone else. The ones we've had since just miss layups and putbacks against better competition. Shouldn't be that hard to find someone who can do that, right?

Her foot speed is too slow; she’s essentially the white version of Rosario.

Koval's foot speed is not slow for a 6-5 post player. Plus, she has a strong lower body. She just needs to strengthen her hands and upper body.

She's light years better than ADR, who was almost nonexistent in two seasons and often looked lost. Koval contributed to some degree almost every game offensively and defensively last season. ADR really didn't show any improvement at Vanderbilt.

With Koval it's her upside. We haven't really seen her play up to her potential yet. But the basics are there, and she's a hard worker and will put in the time and more in the off-season. She'll be much improved and more of a polished player next season.
I like Koval. She has really good feet and runs the court really well for a girl her size. Really good technique and skill as well. Plus, she’s scrappy for a big girl and dives on the floor for loose balls.

If she could just start making her bunnies and easy putbacks, quit putting the ball on the floor under the basket, and strengthen her hands to catch all of the passes, I’d be happy. Also, instead of holding the ball high she tends to drop it low, reducing her effective height from 6-5 to about 5-10 and making it easy for smaller girls to get steals or tie her up.
Shaq could maybe help soften the financial aspect as well!

Who does he say are in her Top 3? I saw where she's taking visits this week to South Carolina and Louisville? Who's the third team?

I don’t see Williams as an upgrade .

Actually, if you watch the Florida game highlights someone posted here Jada Richard was pretty damn impressive, often outplaying McGill on possessions and then getting burned on some. Both took it to the hoop on each other. But Jada was absolutely lights out as a shooter. Seemed like she made everything. Got off her shot quickly and was quick to the hoop. Of course, she made her free throws and got steals. Starkey described her as the team's best on-ball defender which is high praise.

I know Jada Williams has more experience, but we'll be able to compare better when she faces SEC competition. Granted, Jada Richard was often wide open because they were all guarding MK, Lay, and Big 4. But she did drive and create a number of shots on her own. And she was fast in transition. If they give her the reigns like they say they will, I think she'll thrive at Ole Miss. But I do think her salary demands were beyond what Kim could meet- or was ready to meet. Or maybe she had no shot at all in the situation- Jada had made her mind up.

I think LSU will be fine- whether as good offensively without Jada Richard remains to be seen.
Regardless of who SC or UConn adds, I believe LSU just clinched the best starting backcourt/perimeter (3 guards) in all of women’s college basketball!

Now on to two more bigs!

so that's $700k to play with. which 2 can we get for that? trygger was asking for $700k alone, so she's out! chime in. let's see what we can come up with!

I thought I just saw NIL rankings where Flaujae was at the top. How much is Oliviyah Edwards asking for? Is LSU trying to come up with some special package like Tennessee did? LSU would be a great fit for her.

Wonder if there are sources beyond what was paid to those players leaving.

Thanks for the info.

but with richard leaving, im pretty sure all the money went to jada williams! she was asking $1.4 million!! so now, what's left for that big??

So how much is left for LSU to spend in the portal? Got to have more than the 1.4 million to sign Williams and the amount to sign Reynolds. Jada, Bella and Divine leaving creates some "cap space" along with amounts previously paid for Amiya Joyner and Flau'jae (1.5 million for her alone, right?). Don't know if they were still paying KG or not.

Anyway, it would seem there would be enough to work with to get two solid bigs. They have to get two.

well here's the problem now: according to jacques doucet, richard leaving was out of left field. they were probably gonna throw all the money at one of those better bigs that you named (trygger, woolfolk etc). but with richard leaving, im pretty sure all the money went to jada williams! she was asking $1.4 million!! so now, what's left for that big??

Where did Jacques say that? If that's the case, why were they even floating the idea of subtracting minutes from Richard- they knew one of these top tier point guards would be expensive. They had to be keeping a bag aside for one of the top bigs, right?
