re: How is TCU ranked ahead of LSU and A&M?
Posted by OldSulRoss on 10/13/15 at 10:11 am to NFLU
TCU hasn't faced a decent rushing attack and they are still giving up 180 yards a game on the ground. Fournette & Co. would put about 350 on them.

ARTICLE 15. All players are prohibited from grabbing the inside back collar of the shoulder pads or jersey, or the inside collar of the side of the shoulder pads or jersey, and immediately pulling the ball carrier down. This does not apply to a ball carrier, including a potential passer, who is inside the tackle box (Rule 2-34). Note that the tackle box disintegrates when the ball leaves it.
Rule 9-1-15. Jersey vs. pads is immaterial to the rule.
What I see there is Frost diving for Manziel, catching him by the jersey collar with is left hand, begin pulling him down, and catching Manziel on the right arm/shoulder with his right hand to complete the tackle.

And when the Alabama fans you encounter in real life tell you there's no way a well-regarded DC would leave a perrenial contender for a division opponent over something as trivial as money, just remember that crazier things have happened.

How much would A&M be favored is the game were at Kyle? MSU +7?
re: How many here are fans of more than one SEC school?

I counted myself as a casual fan of Auburn and Georgia before joining the SEC. Still don't mind seeing either of them win, but I wouldn't say I root for anyone other than A&M.

The Arkansas game still has me scratching my head. If you take away the special teams play, they were nearly 100 yards below their average running the ball, but that's also because some TDs were called back on penalties. Watching the game, it seemed like A&M was the more physically fit team and held up to the game when that big OL for Arkansas was fading in the 4th and in OT.
On offense, A&M had some miscues as well. Reynolds dropped 2 balls that would have been points, and Pope tripped over the 30 yard line in what would have also been a TD, but resulted in an A&M missed opportunity. I feel like A&M left at least 17 points on the field in miscues, and that's before the missed field goal.
Looking and MSU, I see a slightly worse but still solid running game and OL. I think they've got the better passing game by far.
As far as when A&M has the ball, seems like A&M has a much better passing game than LSU, and probably on par running the ball.
Should be a good game with several explosive scoring plays. I'm guessing A&M gets out early and gets MSU out of his offensive game plan. A&M wins 38-34.

If it helps, MSU is #121 nationally in passing yards allowed.
A&M is #5 in passing offense.
A&M is #5 in passing offense.

We'll be lucky to break even in conference play, so I'm guessing No.

The media is pretty blase about his numbers this year and it's all "Johnny went Johnny, but let's talk about something else." I know I've been spoiled watching him play. Next year is going to be a rap on the beezer when someone else is under center.

Goombaw, your question is valid. There's no doubt that Alabama was one bad throw away from winning that game despite spotting A&M 20 points.
However, the same type of people on A&M's side that think Alabama can't handle our offense are the exact same type of people on Bama's side that don't think a freshman quarterback can actually improve and be better. Manziel's a better QB. Malena's a better RB. Open Mike Evans is a better WR. Not only do a lot of people forget that Manziel was a freshman who made plenty of mistakes, but they also forget that 2012 was Year One of this offensive scheme for A&M. The offense should be better.

I believe that our QB is better this year than last year. And I believe that our RBs and WRs are better as well. I also believe that Dee Milliner is a tough player to replace.
However, I also happen to believe that we have very hope of stopping Amari Cooper. And despite the losses Bama suffered to the NFL draft on the OLine, I have very little hope of holding TJ Yeldon to under 150 yards and 2 scores.
It wouldn't surprise me in the least for A&M to score 40 and still lose this game.

More impressive than winning in Tuscaloosa is the fact that we've managed to turn Nick Saban and Bama into the good guys. That's the greatest illusion of all.

re: Is the SEC/A&M ducking Horns in Cotton Bowl?
Posted by OldSulRoss on 11/30/12 at 5:23 pm to Dr RC
I don't give a rip who we play or where, honestly. It doesn't matter if it's Texas in Dallas or Michigan in Orlando. Either team is going to get run out of the place.
Besides, Texas isn't going to make the Cotton anyway. Not after they lose to KState and TCU beats OU.

If we're talking B12 coaches, I'm just hoping that Arkansas doesn't get Briles or Gundy. I think either could kill it at Arkansas, and with minimal turnaround time.
As for Patterson, the rumor in Texas has always been that the oil families in Fort Worth have taken care of Patterson off the books with oil royalties, and it would take a substantial amount of money to make it worth his while.

I'd guess we lose Joeckel, keep Matthews, and it's a toss up on Moore.

I'm glad they decided not to run it.
Shouldn't have been an issue at that point with 5 points left on the board from special teams garbage. Same story against LSU. We need to find a kicker, and fast.
A couple of quick thoughts on the game...
(1) Even though he didn't have a good game, TJ Yeldon is a hoss. ESPN has him listed at 6'2, 216#, but that dude looked more like 240#. He's going to be a force once he spends more than an off season in the Alabama S&C program.
(2) Biggest surprise to me was the play of John Fulton on Mike Evans. Even though Evans caught 5 balls and made a couple of huge plays on 3rd and long, I was expecting him to break out against Fulton a bit after watching the LSU game based on his height advantage. I think Fulton gives up nearly half a foot to Evans, but the junior came to play and it was clear Evans still has a lot of football to learn.
(3) BDS looked great, and I hope our folks in attendance took note. I wouldn't mind A&M borrowing from the design when it comes time to pick a final plan for the new Kyle Field.
(4) Heard nothing but good things from the folks that traveled to Tuscaloosa bout the hospitality they received from Alabama fans. Maybe y'all would have been nastier if you had thought there was a chance that you might lose the game. Still good to hear that people enjoyed their trip.

LSU and UF both did a decent job of containing him. Make no mistake; he is a great young talent. If one guy forgets his keys(a'la LSU's young corner against 'Bama) or gets out of position he can and probably will burn you. Saban and his team have probably memorized the Gator and Tiger defensive gameplans by now so I do believe the talented Tide defense will contain L'il Johnny. Just don't get too cocky with this kid.
While you are probably correct, I would say that the dude is learning by leaps and bounds. If you look at the way he played against Florida in his first game ever and compare that to how he's played in subsequent games, there is no doubt that's he's getting better. Bama is A&M's biggest test without a doubt. It will be interesting to see what he's learned this week.
