re: Worst GM in Sports history?

What Bill O'Brien did in his stint with the Texans was criminal. The DeAndre Hopkins trade in itself should've had him fired immediately. He was 27 at the time and a three time all-pro. He got a washed up RB (David Johnson) and a second round pick, and to replace Hopkins, he took on a huge contract and gave up a second round pick for Brandin Cooks. He vastly overpaid for Laremy Tunsil, who was a solid left tackle but not worth two first round picks.

He achieved the rare feat of trading a solid player to avoid paying them and turned around and paid more for their shitty replacements.

He left the team in shambles and if it weren't for the dumbass Browns giving the Texans a kings ransom for Desean Watson two years later, they would still be in the weeds.

As would men's basketball if they had the same TV contract.

And in case you wondering, there is no women's basketball TV deal. It is packaged with the men's deal.

Mettenberger and Mariota was another blind split.

No one seriously thought Mett was better than Mariota, with the exception of an idiot or two on here.. Then again, Mett was a 6th round Titan's pick and Mariota was picked 2nd overall by the Titans. How would they view a comparison?

The statue is coaching high school ball and Mariota is a capable back.

The statue cost Tennessee $125K to prove he was a bust (the guaranteed portion of his contract). Mariota cost Tennessee $24M to prove the same thing. To his credit, he hung around a few years before they were convinced. And then went to Oakland and proved it again. And then went to Atlanta and proved it again.

That would be the NCAA who could give a frick about member schools. They are more worried about ensuring their own existence than actually governing. There are also legal ramifications in changing portal rules due to a recent court settlement they agreed to. They have to be the most inept and toothless entity in existence.

In my opinion, Woody’s pride gave CoachMc this season.

We went into football with such high hopes, and I don't believe anyone in the the athletics department thought it would get bad enough that we would fire Kelly in October.

I think Kelly was going to be fired no matter what, but do they fire him midseason if we had just thrown a big number at a new basketball coach?

I would bet in hindsight, they are glad they kept McMahon another year, no matter how shitty this season is. The whole Kiffin thing had to be exhausting (and still is) and the guy they brought in would be at least somewhat tied to Woodward. At least now Ausberry can have buy in on the new hire and not be distracted by the football regime change during the process.

Nahh, the Ole Miss game will be an absolute shite show, and Lane will be the medias whipping boy for a bit, especially if we struggle early. LSU itself will be fine.

And even if I am dead wrong, and this turns into an LSU story more than a Lane Kiffin story, as long as we win 9-10 games, it will still be a fricking joy compared to 2025.
They need to go back in that direction. One transfer under current portal rules after freshman year. Any time after that, you must sit out a year or you must get a release from your current school (for players that are getting processed and choose to leave).

Thanks for implying you rich…you in the right room.

You dont have to be rich to go skiing these days, but you will be poor after going.

Walk up one day loft ticket at Vail is $335 for an adult, even discounted month in advance 3 day tickets are $235. Vail is high end but any decent resort is over $200 a day walkup. Copper used to be a solid deal and is now $175 a day for a 3 day pass.

GTFO with that shite. We've been waiting for the right coach and stability.

What the hell does that trade have to do with it? Stoud was the second coming after his rookie year and lead the Texans team to the playoffs and a playoff win. He threw more TDs less INTs and more yards. Nothing against Lawrence, but they make that trade in a heartbeat.

Obviously they dont make it today.

I have a hard time believing there is a conspiracy simply bc I don’t think it could be kept secret.

And there is no way in hell that 32 owners with a significant portion of their net worth tied to on field success of their team would agree to a scripted game.

Jerry Jones would kill off his immediate family for one more ego stroking super bowl. Do you think he would sit around for the last 35 years not reaching one knowing the outcome is predetermined?

The Rams uniforms for today are fantastic. As good as the 80s version.

Ehhh, the cheapo two tone shading on the numbers kills it. Stripe on pants is off too. Still better than anything they have worn all year though.

Announcers speculate and networks want to virtue signal that the league and by extension they take safety seriously.

in the 70-80s, getting your "bell rung" and stumbling around was shown as high comedy by networks and in NFL Films highlights. Announcers would also acknowledge a camera mans relentless efforts to seek out hot chicks in the stands with a suggestive comment. In the days of C-band satellite dish's the size of an Apollo capsule, the feed didn't cut away for commercials and the shite you would hear on a hot mike was solid gold.

We used to be a proper country.

There are plenty ways to gamble illegally. My Uncle Leo will gladly take your cash wagers (and the vig). The IRS need not be a party to the transaction. And unless you count his run in with them and resulting 18 month mandatory attendance at a federal country club in Tallahassee back in the 80's, it is like they don't even exist.
They never should have been an option. That's on you for gambling electronically. Even if you ignore the ignorance of leaving a paper trail, the ease and lack of human interaction is unhealthy.

Handing/Being handed over actual cash to a real person to initiate/get paid off on the wager should be part of the thrill. Not to mention the above mentioned paper trail is eliminated if you stay under/spread out your wagers.

So damn sharp. Definitely should be worn every week. And so damn better than having to watch the Rams in their grayish whites with the iron on numbers. They look like prison issued practice uniforms.

To think they went with this

And ditched these

quote:

-Pay these 19 year old “kids” millions
-opt outs and unlimited transfers
-4+ hour games
-continuously poor officiating
-pricier tickets
-piped in music
-dead rivalries
-mega conferences and watered down schedules
-expanded CFP

I agree with most of these. I don't think NIL really matters as much if the portal didn't exist. Officiating has been ruined by high def and super slow motion replay showing us all how bad the calls are. They really haven't changed, and in their defense, they have to make the call in real time. Even the expanded playoff doesnt bug me.

The portal, pricing/corporatization, piped in music and ad boards, and mega conferences all are slowly sucking the interest from me. I will add the death of tailgating as well. It is so damned inorganic now and more like a paid NYE party. Trying to post up in your RV for a few games takes an act of Congress and a mortgage payment.. None of it compares to the rule changes legislating violence. I get it, watching brutal hits and players stumbling around isn't PC, but football just isn't meant to be played without intimidation and violence as a factor.
I am 57. College basketball lost me two decades ago in the straight to NBA out of high school era. It was my first love by far, and I occasionally will watch stretches of games but it just doesn't do it for me. The NBA lost me with the euro step/rule changes shite that made the game a 3 point contest. It is a league full of specialized shooters and a few superstars. I contribute each of these to age.

Football is a different story. I still love both college and NFL and watch games each weekend never missing a snap of LSU football. My overall intensity is down for both though due to the complete pussification of the game and now the portal thing with college ball. NIL doesn't bother me in the least. I can see the portal sucking the lifeblood out of the game though if it isnt rained in. I dont see age being a factor at all.

Strangely, I have more interest in baseball than ever. Likely due to the Astros and LSU's run of success, increasing speed of play, and 4 grandsons between T-ball and little league age. So, somewhat age related.

Never had any interest in hockey until 15 years ago and even now no more than a passing interest in the NHL regular season, but now get really into playoff hockey. If Houston were to get a franchise I have a feeling I would be a fanatic up to driving an hour and a half each way to attend 10-15 games a year. I think this is due mostly to the advent of high definition television and being able to actually see the puck. Also, the game remaining more "pure to its roots" as other sports seem to disassociate themselves from what made them great for me.

His 15TDs/1 ints over the final 6 games was impressive & he’ll be elite if he continues that next year

I am a Texans fan and right now would trade Stroud for him in a heartbeat. At the end of 2023, Jacksonville would've given us Lawrence and at least a #1 for Stroud. Who knows where we will be two years from now but I tend to agree he looks to have turned a corner.

Now compare the first half of the season to the second where they actually settled into Coen’s scheme.

I am not arguing he had a good season. I am arguing he had no where near an MVP season.

I would hate to have to go to Jacksonville in the playoffs.
