Yea the bigs on Florida are the difference
And they are the only one in the league built to go toe to toe with the top 7 teams…..
But I don’t think any of us are beating the Arizonas and Purdues this year but hey someone could get hot

Auburn has a group of highly talented WRs and had a top 20 defense
they seemed to only lose games by one score
how does the SEC look and the national picture look if Hugh Freeze can portal a decent QB? Like even just a game manager?

Team identity is rare because of constant roster turnover so there's less for fans to feel attached to
BUT the number of guys in the game who are given freedom to just create their own shot and can create their own shot has gone way up
as far the SEC goes we are currently in a golden age era of SEC basketball where this year feels a bit down because all our best teams are in the 10-20 range where as last year they were all over the top ten
there is a general sense of give a damn throughout the entire league that frankly didn't exist before........ let's just put Bruce Pearl being hired at Auburn as the Rubicon
women's basketball as an important institution hasn't quite hit the levels throughout the league, but Tennessee and South Carolina are now institutions and schools like State have shown an abilit to compete
I can't tell you how you to feel about style of play but in this part of the world it has literally never been better as far as production being achieved and conference wide resources being poured in

Steve Sarkisian was fully in his bag that game and Devonta was unstoppable
he put up all those yards before dislocating his finger early in the 3rd and his state line is still insane

Gators have the best assembled team in what feels like a let down year when the SEC was all throughout the top 10 last year. They're the one that can probably work their way into the 6-10 range by early March.
It feels like they are starting to hit their stride
Vandy probably isn't going to find their footing in Bud Walton that's a bummer of a place to go on a two game losing streak
Mizzou and Georgia is two good teams that are still figuring it out
Auburn at Ole Miss.... man that Auburn roster is too talented for these mistakes to continue but Ole Miss isn't exactly a pushover

Tracy Wolfson and Holly Rowe are always good for legitimate sideline reporting and questions. Pros that have been doing this for a long time.
It's kind of a weird job where if they're doing it right you just get quick good information and forget they're there but if they're doing it wrong they annoy you and you remember them vividly.

Hey it isn't LSU bias that the three to four years I've been doing this LSU has consistently been at the bottom of the conference.
If it makes you feel any better a McNeese player got caught up in the FBI point shaving case so Will Wade will probably have to have another conversation with the feds

Race to the Bottom LSU takes the...Lead? For worst basketball program!

Four games into the SEC conference basketball play and every team now has a loss.
LSU is the obvious worse team at 0-4 after the heartbreak home loss to a Kentucky team that is stumbling out the gate. So they are the clear favorite.
Who could challenge them though? Auburn sits at 1-3 and even with a new coach I think the talent on roster keeps them out of last place and they should even figure some things out and fight for a .500 or above record.
Oklahoma and South Carolina though are contenders for collapse. If LSU discovers consistent play.
South Carolina Oklahoma and LSU were your bottom 3 from last year so improvement has not been realized yet.
Shout out to 2023 winner with an 0-18 record Mizzou building on last years improvement and currently tied for the lead.

Race to the Bottom: Journey to See Who Will be the Worst Team in SEC Basketball
Posted by Wallacewade04 on 1/8/26 at 8:58 am
Two games are in the books for every SEC team.
Great Success: Our 2-0 teams. Vanderbilt is undefeated! Calipari has Arkansas looking like a tournament team with a run in them. Missouri with a gutsy road win at Rupp. Bucky Ball Aggies with a weird escape from Auburn. And Mississippi State showing both the new boys what SEC Basketball has been about.
Winning on the road can be hard: Our 1-1 teams. Alabama has flashes of great offense but turnovers and rebounding remain an issue (as does foul trouble jesus that game) Florida has guard play problems that will almost certainly be fixed by Feb 1st. Georgia is a good team! Winning at Florida is tough tho. Oklahoma is up and down. Rick Barnes Tennessee is probably pretty damn good but starting the conference slat at Arky is rough. South Carolina! You're not in the worst category! You killed LSU!
Face plant out the gate: Auburn starts 0-2 under Steven Pearl in a hilariously weird way that seems to only ever happen to Auburn sports teams. Auburn is too talented for this? Texas can't decide what their identity is but if it makes you feel anybody Chris Beard and Ole Miss are down here too and that team looks a lil dead out the gate.
Special mention: Kentucky starts SEC play 0-2 and I don't feel like looking it up by have to feel like that is incredibly rare. If they start 0-3 we might be on the path to a midseason firing. Does not help that Calipari has Arkansas up and running so quickly. Our traditional conference overlord is on shaky legs.
My pick for current worst team: LSU. Starting 0-2 happens it has happened to Alabama many times before. Getting housed at home happens, it's happened to everybody here. It's just usually a team bound for the final four that does. Getting killed by South Carolina in a game that stopped being competitive early in the first half on you home court... warning lights are flashing.
Well you all have the rest of January to figure this shite out. Good luck! Once we have separation we can just focus on who is in the running for the bottom of the standings.

then went to Samford down the road and won the SoCon twice
now he gets his first SEC win for the aggies
it's gonna be bittersweet for a lot of fans in both Alabama and Auburn when we play this year

Yea two of replacing the GOAT
we went 7-1 in conference but just don't have the trench play to compete with the big boys but it's 10 win regular season and a playoff win so it is a step forward from year one
The heat isn't on YET but at a minimum he needs to be back in the playoffs next year and avoid the ugly losses
what happens with the Oline coach and Oline play will be key but on pace still (even if it looked ugly as shite at the end)

We once again start the year eagerly awaiting to see
WHO WILL BE THE WORST SEC BASKETBALL TEAM
Lots of teams thought they were elite then coaches retired, stud recruits haven't panned out so far, or your domestic violence inclined coach lost all his big OOC games (Chris Beard joke football only fans)
but it doesn't matter now it's a clean SEC slate and only one team (tie breakers with same record) can be the worst
Last years ummm winner? South Carolina is off to a pretty good start! So go out there and try not to be as bad as the other teams!

Ok
To be fair. Someone had to ride that NCAA probation train for four years to get us back to normal and Mike did a decent job.
He brought in Antoine Caldwell, Javier Arenas, and a lot of the depth that made up the 2008-09 teams
And I'm glad we get to dump on him and not Sylvester Croom who everybody agrees is a solid guy. I do not want to know what some of our yahoos would have had to say about Croom when those teams inevitably failed due to sanctions.

As a Catholic I will say
we are all guilty we are all bad, that included Hugh Freeze!
not for the hookers or any of the weird stuff, but just in general, Hugh like all of us is gross and bad and should feel bad so go to church (where father better get us out in a crisp 55-60 minutes so help me) go to confession then go get communion and Hugh Auburn and all of us will be all right
football? oh we're all on our own god doesn't care
he also doesn't care about drinking or gambling so that's fun
but in summation me, you, Hugh, Auburn, all teams, everybody bad and should feel guilty
