Correct, but for the zipper merge to work properly, the merge has to be accomplished at the end of the blocked lane.

What many are suggesting in this thread is to merge well before the merge point, which leaves a whole lane not being used. Just because it hurts people’s feelings when they see someone going faster than them, and get merge in before them.
Which is how the zipper was designed.

Yea, staying in the slow lane and tailgating the car in front of you because you get pissed at the ones who are in the fast lane and merge at the merge point is definitely what they designed the zipper merge for.
