Yeah, most likely. I know that William Lewis Reece was convicted for two of the murders (Laura Smithers and Jessica Cain) and was working as a contract worker in the area but was from somewhere up near Dallas, I believe.
One of the missing females listed in the link, Shelly Sikes, was in high school with my brother when two men ran her off the road just over the causeway out of Galveston, as she drove home one night from work, and abducted her. They caught the guys, but never found her body.

The Texas Killing Fields is a title used to denote the area surrounding the Interstate 45 (I-45) corridor southeast of Houston, where since the early 1970s, 34 bodies have been found, and specifically to a 25-acre (10 ha) patch of land in League City, Texas where four women were found between 1983 and 1991. The bodies along the corridor were mainly of girls or young women. Furthermore, many additional young girls have disappeared from this area who are still missing. Most of the victims were aged between 12 and 25 years. Some shared similar physical features, such as similar hairstyles.
Despite efforts by the League City, Texas police, along with the assistance of the FBI, very few of these murders have been solved. The area has been described as "a perfect place [for] killing somebody and getting away with it".

This 25 acre "patch of land" in League City is surrounded by subdivisions and businesses now, so not so remote anymore.

Don't think he'll be there much longer. His district (District 9) was redrawn and he's now running in the district next door (District 18) and is currently behind his Democratic primary opponent by 20 + points in most polls.

I asked my girlfriend if she could make it to Los Angeles from where we live in Pensacola without gps, and she said no.
Years ago, when my cousin was in the Marines stationed at Twentynine Palms his wife and her friend, both elementary teachers, drove out from Houston to visit him.
He said that, along the way, periodically, his wife would call him to give him an update on their trip. At one point she called and told him they were currently driving through Tuksun. He asked her to repeat that and she, once again, said Tuksun.
He then asked, "Where in the hell is Tuksun?" She said, "You know, in Arizona." Did I mention that they were both teachers?

Dave Dravecky. I remember when this happened and the description of the sound heard throughout Olympic Stadium when his arm broke. Later had to have it amputated when the cancer returned.

Did your grandfather do anything with Falstaff Beer?
Could be. Back then my grandfather had a grocery store in Beaumont so it may have been some kind of promotion or meet and greet. By the time I came around my grandfather was working for Southwestern Bell. I wish he was still around to ask.

My grandfather with Dizzy at a local bar in Beaumont, TX, in 1955. No idea why Dizzy was in Beaumont, but my grandfather always spoke fondly of him.

In my opinion, this song is truly bad. Thought it was awful when it first came out and seeing him perform it live was just cringe worthy.

Yes it is. By law, they aren't turned on unless a parent, teacher or administrator requests them to be on. I worked as a teacher in a self-contained, low functioning, non-verbal autism class for a couple of years and requested them to be turned on just to be careful and make sure we had daily documentation of interactions between myself, my paraprofessionals and my students. My thinking was that it was better to be safe than sorry.

In my younger days I used to wear heavier colognes like Grey Flannel and Obsession, but this is my go to nowadays. The scent just doesn't seem as overbearing to me, and it's cheap.

Man, Power Tools was an "interesting" place. Always felt like if a fire broke out there it would be devastating with the little side rooms. To me it always felt like going in a cave if I'm remembering it correctly. Then again, I was usually flying pretty high there so my memory might be a little fuzzy about that place.

Loved that song. I got to see them at Numbers in Houston during the summer of 1990.
Also saw Meat Beat Manifesto with Nine Inch Nails during that same summer, also at Numbers. All great shows. Fond memories of that time in my life.
