Hybrid bream. Uncle stocked his pond with them. They get big but his never reproduced.

re: Specks or Redfish? Take your pick

Specks for taste
Reds for fun although two specks on a rig at once is tough to beat.

Manchac on Sunday

Anyone been lately? My buddy and I will be yakking around Sunday morning.
Looks like less of a pain in the arse than sabiki rigs!

Yankee cousin of the honey island swamp monster.
Grew up on well water which is still the best tasting water IMHO but BR's water is mighty fine. Kills me to see people here drinking bottled and not appreciating how much better we have it than NOLA

Thing looks like a Hobie pro angler sans mirage drive. I'd want to test out the stability but it looks nice especially for the price. With the kayak boom lately I'd be surprised if ascend prices dont go up soon.

5 gallon bucket FTW.

Not a problem, I'll just hose it down with the yak after we're back.

re: What type of dog is this?

Beagle in the face, golden retriever tail and a mutt body.

I'm just concerned about it holding up to the salt. How do I tell if a reel is saltwater approved? I've always been a freshwater guy.

Welcome back boats. I was actually looking at the inshore model so the revo s would be cheaper. I'd just as soon go with the sx which would be a 10 dollar increase for a lighter reel and I have to admit, the blank and red to match the rod doesn't hurt!

Abu Garcia Orra?

Looking for an inshore baitcaster that won't break the bank to pair with a vendetta rod. Saw the Orra. Anyone have any experience?

Tackle suggestions

Updaing the old tackle.. Targeting bream, sacalait, and bass for fresh, and reds and specs for the marsh. Feel free to name a fave or two. Gonna hit up BPS tonight

Welcome to the club! WS seems to build some nice yaks. They definitely have a ton of accessories to rig it out. Good purchase.

I'm gonna set up an anchor trolley eventually but I'm not quite sure how that whole thing works. I got a dry bag, anchor and rope, dock line, fish grabber, decent paddle, skwoosh gel cushion, some water proof tackle boxes, and an extra seat to flip over and rig as a console. Is a fish finder that useful? I'm going to eventually get a five gallon and aerator rigged up for reds. Fish bag or stringer? Is a drift anchor a must have? I'm getting my uncle to weld up a trailer hitch extension with a "V" for the pickup. Are those foldable laminated maps helpful for the marsh? I'm not sinking the money into a GPS anytime soon.

Seeing as I'm not OT rich and can't afford a sweet center console, I'm happy to have something to out me on the water and get me outside when it's not deer season! I'm really looking forward to it.

Bought this KC today and can't wait to put it in the water. I'll certainly be joining BCKFC soon and getting some launch points. If any KC owners have some rigging ideas (especially for a seat to attach to that awful plastic shelf it comes with), please share!

Cheap Vendetta Rod?

Posted by RLEBL23 on 4/1/13 at 3:18 pm
Just left Seigen academy. They had Vendettas for 79.99 but one or two with a 49.99 sticker on it. I snagged it and checked out. Register said 79.99. Manager overrides and I'm out the door. Am I lucky or did I just steal 30 bucks of rod from Academy?

I'm honestly about to drop that 1400 for the KC. I wouldn't mind a used one but no one wants to give them up. If anyone that has a KC can suggest a seat that works well with their platform, it would be appreciated.

I'm surprised no one from team ascend chimed in yet.

re: Paging Yakkers

The KC falls into a hybrid kayak/canoe category. I think the beauty of the kayaks is better tracking and more efficiency when paddling than a canoe or pirogue but with obvious stability losses.

re: Paging Yakkers

Posted by RLEBL23 on 3/29/13 at 5:16 pm to
I'm sure I'd rather just buy a stable kayak than spend the money and get the added weight of an outrigger. They probably slow you down when deployed and I don't want to pick them up constantly.

re: Paging Yakkers

Comfort is definitely a factor is my attraction to the KC. Sitting higher is far more appealing than being restricted to sitting with my legs out for hours. I know Jackson has a good product but they just don't seem as stable as the KC after watching someone cast netting from it.

How much slower than the Ascend and the mirage drive are we talking? I don't want to be lagging behind my buddy too much.

Paging Yakkers

Posted by RLEBL23 on 3/29/13 at 4:41 pm
I want to get into kayak fishing. The plan is start small in family pond then move onto reds in the marsh. I started off team Ascend looking at the 12 foot SOT. After much research it seems solid but a big complaint is oil canning and of course that's a bigger issue in the LA summers. It comes rigged nicely. My new dilemma is the KC. I've been watching too many of those videos and started second guessing myself. The idea of enoug stability to stand and the comfort of sitting high on the KC sounds way better for me as a newbie. I've wanted a yak for over a year and I'm ready to pull the trigger. My buddy is also interested and he's leaning towards the Hobie mirage drive. I know price differences between the FS12T and the KC is huge but I figure if I decide to sell it the KC will hold value well. Even my stingy arse father votes for the KC. Demo days sound great but I can't demo the Ascend since BPS doesn't participate. I've been so excited about the idea of yak angling for so long I can't imagine not enjoying it. I know we have a ton of OB'ers on both teams so put in that $0.02!
