Next time you head to New Orleans, don't eat at Walk Ons. Ask the Food and Drink Board for advice. You obviously needed it.
It was about what I expected from a place like that. We went on the advice of a LA native but I'm of course open to try what is suggested by others. It was a place to watch the game and have a beer at least and wasn't as difficult to park as Bourbon street was.

Welcome to the party. Try not to be to thin skinned on this board.
Thank you sir. I learned that a long time ago unfortunately. Tough guys on the internet can never be beat I guess.

You live in Hammond or BR?
Baton Rouge. I'll update my profile in a second. Company put me up in a hotel in Hammond during the move.
Wanted to give my perspective as another Ag. Everything yall seem to "hear", everything yall see, and everything the stupid media SHOWS is from the Corps of Cadets. Our oldest student organization, they call themselves the "keepers of the spirit" and are responsible for 99.9% of the traditions you hear about or so. I might also add that they comprise 5% of the student body according to the most recent figures. To judge an entire population based on 5% is nothing short of stereotyping. Only those who don't care to look at the other 95% of the people, and those over at Shaggy, think the entire student body is as "weird" as the Corps.
I have some friends and distant family members who were in the Corps and I got along great with them. I respect the Corps enough even though it isn't for me. A lot of them go on to be commissioned directly into the armed forces AT our student graduation ceremony.
To the outside we may be weird and unfortunately once again the Corps has been caught in way too many GIFs and screenshots doing something that looks retarded. It's weird that we still have male yell leaders in 2012 but that's tradition for you. All cheerleaders were male back in the day. Apparently it's weird that I wear my Aggie Ring after I graduated. I guess I join the weird ranks of those at the Citadel, Notre Dame, Westpoint, VT, etc. I'm ok with it.
I take great pride in knowing that I graduated from such a great school, let alone such a great engineering program, and no one around here at work has any doubts that I'm worth what my diploma says.
Enjoy College Station, yall. If you're used to a big city, you'll be in for a shock. If you're expecting a podunk town, you're also in for a shock. The city is nice, clean, and campus is huge so don't get lost. I hope yall get treated well and I apologize for any drunk fans ahead of time. The Lord knows every fan base has it's share of "less than nice" people.

Aggie who moved to BR

Howdy Yall,
First let me start off by saying no, "Howdy" is not an Aggie thing. It's a Texas thing. Short for "How do you do?". Anyway, I graduated from A&M in 2011 (though class of 2009), worked for a year outside of College Station and moved here to the Baton Rouge area 5 weeks ago.
This weekend was my first weekend to really get to know BR and NO as my fiance flew in to visit. Other than the culture shock I experienced upon moving here (you have to admit, Louisiana culture is different from Texas culture, which is different from Mississippi culture, etc.), I've noticed that people in general are nice here. My fiance noticed the same thing.
We went to visit various parts of BR including downtown, LSU, and the Oschner area (she is a nurse) at O'Neal. Downtown is pretty neat. Seems to be pedestrian friendly though not a whole lot to do in terms of bars/restaurants. We drove through the LSU campus and I must say it is very nice. I love all the oak trees and it was nice being back on a "collegy" campus after over a year. We ate at Chimes right there at the edge of campus and that was a really neat place. We walked off our beers around campus a bit and checked out the stadium. It is a real nice stadium, bigger and nicer than Kyle Field (though Kyle will be redone soon, thankfully).
We also checked out New Orleans...Bourbon street as well as downtown (Walks Ons for dinner) and that was neat too. Weird, but neat. Nowhere else have I seen a busy street blocked off for a wedding procession complete with big brass band following behind.
Overall it's taken (and still taking) some getting used to but it's not too bad over here. Unfortunately my rental house is in a less-than-desirable place, but it's just temporary until I buy a house somewhere I like better.
I just wanted to share my thoughts and tell yall what I thought about your campus etc. I'll leave my defense of us "weird" Aggies to the other thread. I come here a lot to search for local information...machanics, places to live, etc. and it's been a great resource.
