I think we'll defend Taiwan because it won't stop with Taiwan. Taiwan is strategically important in keeping the PLAN bottled up within the First Island Chain. Taking Taiwan would be the first step in breaking into the wider Pacific and even the Western Hemisphere.

Production and trade. We once had Mexico. Now that Mexico is relatively advanced, they're now using South America for low-end, low-skilled manufacturing. Cuba could join CAFTA and drastically increase their standard of living within a decade.

I've always thought that stunk. They monitor all the radio traffic, own all of the cell towers, have Gaza completely locked down in terms of SigInt. Then they have HumInt sources everywhere in Gaza. No way Hamas pulled off an operation at that scale without Mossad ever hearing a peep. I think Netanyahu is evil enough to sacrifice some of his citizens to give him the excuse to raze Gaza.
