What kind of options does her current 401k offer?

If it has a good selection and decent investments, I’d recommend rolling it into current 401k.
Are you using a custom builder? If you’ve selected a builder, I’d get recommendations from them. Many will include an allowance for plans in their pricing, and have preferred designers they work with and trust.

We used Madden for a custom plan, modified from some of his existing. His designs are decent, but he’s a terrible dude and I’d never recommend him for a true custom design.

Kabel is solid and he did my first house. Not sure if he’s coming around to a more modern process/design/style yet. He was still doing ONLY hand drawn plans even like 5–10 years ago.
Cutting higher can help keep weeds out. Some of the grasses just look better and thrive at shorter HOCs. Rye should be fine at similar heights as the St Aug, so really no concerns there.

So I guess just putting the seed out over the existing rye is not a good idea?

You could, but it’s not ideal. You want to break up the soil a bit so you get a little bit of cover or soil to seed contact. The rye will also shade out the seed and delay germination. You’ll also continue battling any weeds that sprouted over the winter within the rye.

How should I go about taking care of it? What height should I the rye grass? Will it eventually spread throughout the rest of the yard? How often should I cut?

You can use just a general herbicide like 2,4d for the time being. The rye grass will die off in the spring, so I personally wouldn’t dedicate much time to controlling the weeds in it. If you’re planning to convert to Bermuda, just kill/till/seed it all in the spring.

The rye will not really spread to the rest of the yard. It’s a clumping grass.

Cut it at ~2”. It should be lower than St Aug, although you could cut both higher if needed at 3-4”.

Also plan to plant Bermuda in the infield. When should I do that? And any tips for handling that? My only experience is with St Aug grass.

Bermuda seed or sod? Assuming seed.

I’d suggest to kill and till the area around April. A couple rounds of glyphosate, till the soil, then spread your Bermuda seed. You’ll get some weeds, but can take care of them later once the Bermuda is established.

If doing sod for the superior variety, you can kill, till, level out with sand as needed, then lay your sod. Will need to keep it watered and taken care of for about 3 weeks or so. You could technically do sod almost anytime, but I’d suggest a similar timeframe of April or so.

Not sure what you mean as the foot pedal is the same. Only difference in the BB is the dial that sets the height. Most of them just use a pin, so in theory the dial should be easier to use. Foot pedal/weight is applied the same way.

Often there is a spring or linkage adjustment that can make it easier to raise or lower the deck. The spring can apply more tension or linkage adjusted to get more leverage (but require a longer throw).

As mentioned, there are some with electric or hydraulic lifts but they are not common.

Trey’Dez carried this offense. Literally on that play.
There’s so many options and opinions.

This is like asking “what’s the best truck?”.

What’s the budget and how much are you cutting? Do you like the 54” size or want something bigger/smaller? You said “lawn cutting business” so are you actually running a business or just your own residence?

Hustler, Gravely, Bad Boy, Scag, Exmark, etc. are all solid options. Having a local dealer helps, but may not be critical. Some people are adamant on a “commercial” machine, but I think there’s an economic price that should be considered for that upgrade. Residential users just are not putting the hours on the machine.

Kawasaki motors are generally regarded as the better option vs Kohler or some self-branded options.

But with winter time approaching, the selection will be limited.

Yes…once at LSU. Gave some guy a ride from Walk-Ons area up to the North Gates near that ATV place. He started to want to go down some random roads up past the north gate and I refused. He got out without much a fuss. No idea how close to being a victim or not.

Also got picked up while walking to grab some mixers at Ole Miss. Me and buddy were walking to the store and a random guy (Ole Miss, not LSU fan) offered us a ride. We jumped in and took the ride. No issues and guy acknowledged Ole Miss didn’t stand a chance in the game.

Both events occurred around 2006 or 2007.
Portnoy is the ultimate troll. He knows what he’s doing and built his entire business around it.

But still frick him.

I liked them pre-9/11. After that they got political and even though I agreed with their viewpoint it was tiresome. As a matter of fact, I was listening to them in the school car pool line when 9/11 happened.

I don’t recall them too much before that time except for a few times with my dad in the truck. Listened to them all the time in HS/college post-9/11.

But I feel like W&J really started to go super political and became unbearable was around when Obama was elected. That seemed to break them and it became 90% politics.

I listened to Kidd Kraddick for a while until he passed away. Show has never been the same since then. Switched to podcasts/streaming after that and haven’t looked back.

re: HULU solutions?

Drop your annual plan with Disney+ and unify everything under one login with Hulu/Disney+.

Sounds like you pay for Hulu+LiveTV+Bundle(ESPN+, Disney+). Then separately you pay for Disney+.

Just drop your standalone Disney+ annual plan. You will likely not get a prorated credit, but that’s the disadvantage of paying annually and getting the cost savings.

Disney/Hulu has generally be incredibly helpful every time I’ve messaged them with issues. I had some similar issues because we had the “No Ads” tier separately which is not a regularly available bundle option (with Live TV). But they were able to link everything up. We had to drop one of the plans to link them under the same login, but they got everything straight.

If anything, this should really simplify your setup under a single login.

Not sure if the ESPN account is completely separate from the ESPN+ as part of the bundle. Might be something you can rationalize and get rid of (with access through Hulu Live TV).
We’ve been looking at the Genesis and it seems like a solid vehicle. One note is that if you need a 3rd row, it’s limited to only certain trims. We have a Hyundai Palisade now and it’s been great, despite the general hate for the “it’s a POS Hyundai” on here.

We’re on the list for a GX right now and have been since April. I’m down to #3 and #15 for the different trim levels, starting at like 250+ overall.

You can find them available if you really expand your search, but will likely pay a markup. Otherwise, no reason to pay that $14k markup as that’s pretty unusual for them after a waitlist. Most dealers are selling at MSRP.

Used GXs are selling more more than new MSRP, so it’s definitely not a great option.
You’re adding a 60A 240V to a panel that is only a 100A main and has your ACs and a lot of primary indoor circuits.

Not sure you really have the capacity to do what you want, unless you don’t actually need the 60A. You don’t have to “add everything up”, but this just seems like a lot of load on this panel.

I'm building a new house and looking for recommendations for the best grass to plant. I want something that looks good, is easy to control weeds in, and requires minimal maintenance. Should I choose sod or hydroseed? I live in Baton Rouge.

What do you define as “low maintenance”?

How much area are you covering?

How important is the quality of your lawn? Do you just want “something green” or you looking for a golf course fairway?

Zoysia, Bermuda, Centipede, St Augustine, Bahia all have their pros/cons.
quote:

Weed indicator notes it as annual bluegrass

Annual Bluegrass is also known as POA Annua and it’s a PITA. It can be difficult to eradicate and its seeds will germinate after long periods. A good pre-emergent is key.

Not sure how much of it you have, but the post-emergent herbicide can be pretty expensive.
You’ll get a few weeds popping up. Not unusual and can depend on quality of the sod or just any fill dirt beneath it. You mentioned clearing the soil a few inches, which can always stir up any dormant seeds or weeds.

If the sod is only 2 weeks old, I would not do anything right now. Wait until it’s fully recovered, rooted, and really growing. Usually at least 2-3 cuts after laying (4-6 weeks). You’ll be nearing dormancy by then, but you can still treat the weeds if you’d like.

Good news is you’ll have plenty of time to treat them and clean it up. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
You can lay sod almost year round. But definitely no issue putting it down now or within next couple of weeks.

$600/pallet is ridiculous. St. Aug pallet is about $250 or so. If you don’t have a truck/trailer, I’d expect delivery to run no more than another $100 within a reasonable delivery.

Woerner Turf in BR usually has good quality sod and I know will deliver it or you can pick it up.
I just replaced the spindles on my mower, there should be no play in the blade/bolt in a new spindle.

Unless your deck is weak/broken, sounds like you may have gotten a bad product.
Just swap the breaker to a 15A and you’ll be fine, properly protected, and code compliant.

As long as the circuit isn’t loaded up on the 20A, it should not cause any issues whatsoever.

I’m assuming this baw ain’t firing up his mower at 9 PM.

The practical case for lights on the mower is in the fall. Work during the day and get home at 5:30. Start cutting around 6:30 PM and need the lights to finish up when it gets dark early.
